Three environmental groups sued the Environmental Protection Agency on Tuesday to force it to prevent lead poisoning of wildlife from spent ammunition and lost fishing tackle.
The lawsuit was filed in U.S. District Court by the Center for Biological Diversity, Public Employees for Environmental Responsibility and the hunters group Project Gutpile. It comes after the EPA denied their petition to ban lead ammunition and lead fishing tackle, which the groups say kills 10 million to 20 million birds and other animals a year by lead poisoning.
"The EPA has the ability to protect America's wildlife from ongoing preventable lead poisoning, but continues to shirk its responsibility," said Jeff Miller, conservation advocate with the Center for Biological Diversity.
The lawsuit asks a judge to order the EPA to develop rules to prevent wildlife poisoning from spent lead ammunition and fishing tackle.

Just another way for the EPA to collect your ammo.
NYS already limits lead sinkers. Birds won't eat bigger sinkers and I believe it's the split shots that are illegal.
Maybe we should give the Center for Biological Diversity ALL of our lead!
Bump!
One slug at a time?
Just another sideshow at the midway. While the people who are trying to put a stop to the madness (i.e. us) are forced to submit to various “reality checks.”
‘Let them eat Lead’
EPA denies petition calling for lead ammunition ban
Bogus Bull$h!t
Do birds really eat lead shot?
Project Gutpile? Not exactly Pheasants Forever, Ruffed Grouse Society, Quail Unlimited or Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation.
Actually, the reason the EPA is being sued by these enviorojerks is because they refused to go after ammo.
Just humoring them, wouldn’t these groups at some point, have to prove that said lead is causing damage to wildlife? As I understand lead poisoning, one has to ingest a significant amount, and unless animals and fish are eating bullets and split shots, how can they be harmed?
I have to save some lead to pay reparations, should it come to that.
waterfowl will eat gravel to help their gizzards work, but the dangers are severly overrated.
Maybe I’ll get in on that lost fishing tackle part. There’s a place where I fish on the Occoquan River in Virginia that absolutely swallows lead jigs and shad darts. Probably lost 200-300 lbs over the years.
The lead, boss. Only the lead. No brass. Need that for reloading.
ABSOLUTE, PATENT BULLSH1T.
These delusional twits need to get a life!!! Go picket an abortion clinic or a puppy mill, A$$HOLES
EPA is out of control. We need to find a way to either get them under control or eliminate them.
I’m open to suggestions, how we can achieve the right purpose of dealing with environmental contamination without an EPA that thinks it should be king of the universe.
This is a case of, “who watches the watchers”.
Boy I would really love to do that. I love to have everyone of the environmental wackos going past my windows in a line, kind of like ducks at the shooting gallery. I would just need some kind of debris mover to get them out of the way to keep the avenues of open.
