Of COURSE it was a missile launch. Anyone who knows anything about these matters can see the consistent symmetric turns in the contrail that scream “spin stabilized missile.” A plane simply cannot make those.

Amazed that so few can see/understand this...

Not nearly as impressive as "government contrail expert"

Anyone who read the article, I wonder if you also read the first comment. This person is truly a democrat/liberal. He slammed the general’s comments and observations as being just a kook who has worn a bunch of stars on his collar.
Seeing all the general’s experience in the military is good enough for me. I'm no expert, but when I watched the video of the missile launch, I was convinced it was an ACTUAL missile. The news helicopter with a camera was in the wrong place and the wrong time, as far as our government's leadership is concerned. But the helicopter was in the perfect place at the perfect time for the people that launched the missile and I don't think that was by chance. Launching a missile is no small feat, even for a rogue submarine captain and crew.
I totally agree with the general in saying we, as Americans, need to rise up and demand from the Obama regime the truth of what it was. We are waking up in this country, at least 70% of us are. The other 30% has it's head so far up the new president's butt, it's a wonder they can even breathe. Where is the news media with a story that could get them awards?? What did or didn't NORAD do with the information?? Why is Obama keeping this information away from us and endangering our very existence?? Does our president want us to be in danger as Israel is from their neighbors?? At least Israel is smart enough not to take ‘orders’ from Obama and safe guard their homeland.
Finally, we need to stand up and defend what is great and ours. We need to tell the people who are supposed to be representing us what “WE” want “THEM” to do and the not the other way around.
God Bless Our Country, Our People and Our Safety.

The funny thing about this story is that I was pretty close to completely believing the contrail version of the story, but the hyperventilation from a very vocal group of FR posters have made me reconsider. Ask some honest questions and get shouted down with "missile truther". That stinks pretty badly.

FWIW, there are still some aspects of the missile version of the story that are hard to swallow; the largest for me being the apparent complete lack of military response in the area. Funny how it's OK to question the missile theory, but you question the contrail theory and you're right into tinfoil territory according to some folks.

It looked just like an SLBM. The question is which nation’s sub fired that SLBM right off the southern California coastline?

Airplane. Contrail. Grew up on the beach in So. Cal. Seen similar before.

That's not an exciting story for weeping talk show hosts and blog pimps, but that's what it was. Sorry no MSM/government conspiracy involving thousands. No Chi Com, Iranian (LOL), renegade Russian, OBL, Mexican, or Tahitian SLBM. Just a plane.

The fact that Obama is covering it up tells you how serious it was. The government has no answer as to HOW a Chinese sub was able to approach the American coastline and launch a missile undetected. I'll bet you that patrols off the west coast had been curtailed, to save money, or whatever. Obama covers it up to stop the political backlash that would certainly occur if the truth was told...

Obama is putting our country in jeopardy! You won't know about it just like you didn't know about Clinton loosing the launch codes. We should bombard our Senators and Congressmen for answers, at least!

If it was a missile, who launched it? The missile did not have the expected profile of a launch.

But if it was a large jet, why wasn't that known? It isn't like we misplace 737’s that often, air traffic control knows where they are, and if you lose contact with one all sorts of screaming starts.

Either explanation is worrying. Both hint that our air controllers are not able to really know what is going on in the airspace. Neither is very comforting.

Jim Cash may be an Air force Brigadier General, but he’s also a guy who is shooting of his mouth from a position of authority without ever asking why an SLBM could be photographed several minutes after launch with a $900 Nikon. He is a guy who has decied to speak with the voice of authority after seeing about 20 seconds of heavily edited material.

Where’s the stage separation, General?

EPIC FAIL.

If Russia was testing a Buvala, or China was saber rattling, and either of them launched a missile that close, heads would roll. It would also be politically very damaging to the President.

Use your eyes people. And your brains. Take a look at the difference between aircraft contrails (vapor trails) and rocket plumes.

Notice that both Wiki and the EPA say that contrails generally occur at 26,000 feet or higher. Contrails do not start off at ground level and continue vertically from there.

Contrail

Aircraft Contrails Factsheet

Missle launch videos showing rocket plumes:

S.L.B.M. Launch Off California Coast Novemeber 8 2010

The last Titan IV missile launch

Trident I C-4 Launch

Missile test? Key West, FL new years eve 2008

Aircraft contrails:

Aircraft take offs @ Hong Kong International Airport

Passing a Thomas Cook Airbus A330 at 38,000 Feet

Passing a Lufthansa 747-400, followed by a Southwest 737 From 35,000 Feet

Singapore Airlines Airbus A380 flies over Berlin with 5 contrails (06|03|2010)

Missile test? Key West, FL new years eve 2008

Anybody here besides myself see the difference?

No matter who fired an SLBM off the coast of L.A., it has extremely serious implications for the national security of the U.S. Either Obama's military is so incompetent that they accidentally fired an SLBM off the coast of L.A., or our enemies are so emboldened by a pathetically weak President that they dare intimidate us by such a naked display of power off our coasts.

Just as bad, our press is either indifferent to the implications to our national security or they are complicit in the cover-up.
