AUSTIN — A state representative on Tuesday filed a bill that would require any candidate for president or vice president of the United States to show his or her birth certificate to the Texas secretary of state, another indication of just how ambitious the conservative agenda for next year’s session of the Texas Legislature is expected to be.

But beyond that I think anything that disqualifies one from military service should disqualify an individual from serving as the Commander in Chief.

You mean like illegal drug use, mental illness, or addiction to prescription drugs?

This is grand...now let us require ALL voters to be required to show their ID’s when they vote.

WE have been a NATION for over 200 years, and have been VOTING for longer than that.

You think we would have been able to come up with a foolproof and fair system by now.

IT'S NOT THAT DIFFICULT.

The only reason there are problems with voting, is because our elected officials want the problems.

FYI, this bill is not likely to make it past the Texas Senate.

Texas Senate rules require approval by 2/3rd's of the members to bring legislation to the floor. Despite the big shift in party majority in the Texas House, the Texas Senate was unchanged.

There are 12 Democrats in the Texas Senate. That's just enough to prevent a bill from being brought to the floor, if all Democrats vote against it.

IIRC, one TX State Rep has already filed a bill to require a photo ID that proves citizenship when voting.

There are already FIVE different bills filed regarding photo identification to vote.

Four in the House, 1 in the Senate.

There's a lot of duplication among them. I didn't spend any time trying to determine what differences might exist. More than likely, the 1 in the Senate is a duplicate of one of the House bills.

However, none of them require proof of citizenship. All accept a valid driver's license, which doesn't require citizenship.

I think it has to include some wording to the effect that the person had to meet the definitions of “natural-born US citizen” that were in effect at the time of the person’s birth.

I thought a few states had passed it? Texas is a biggy...we need several battleground states to pass it also.

Anyone holding state or federal public office and all government employees state and federal should be compelled to go through a secret security clearance. This would require a thorough background check including an original birth certificate.

All you need is one state. If Obama is not qualified to be President or if there is some explosive information on the long version of his birth certificate, Obama’s reelection chances would be damaged seriously.

The bill should also include U.S. Senators and Representatives as there are Constitutional requirements for thos offices also, mainly age 30 and 25 respectively.

Good point. You might want to drop a line to the author of the bill. The name of the bill could be broadened to some sort of “Constitutional compliance”.

Or, as I believe his bc will prove he is the child of a parent or parents who chose not to claim him as theirs. His one and only “legal” father was Sorento. He is a fictional character who fooled half the world....how embarassing.
