Security: We're not made safer by the TSA's authorized groping of Americans, full-frontal nudity scans of passengers or 3-year-olds pulled aside for holding on to their teddy bears. One young American has had enough.
It wasn't exactly "Don't Tread on Me" or "Give Me Liberty or Give Me Death." But when John Tyner, a 31-year-old software programmer from Oceanside, Calif., refused a TSA "groin check," he uttered words soon to adorn boxers and briefs of freedom lovers everywhere: "You touch my junk, and I'm going to have you arrested."
Tyner refused what he considered "a huge invasion of privacy" while attempting to board a flight at San Diego International Airport. He "opted out" of the full-body scanner, which leaves nothing to the imagination, settling for the traditional metal scanner and a basic pat-down. But the groin check, in his view, went too far.
Tyner had turned on his cell phone's video camera and placed it atop the luggage he sent through the X-ray machine. The conversation between him and a TSA supervisor was, er, revealing. The supervisor explained that if he refused, he would not be allowed to fly and would be escorted out. Tyner responded: "OK, I don't understand how a sexual assault can be made a condition of my flying."
"This is not considered a sexual assault," the supervisor said.
"It would be if you were not the government," replied Tyner.
"By buying your ticket you gave up a lot of rights," countered the supervisor. Oh. We wonder if Benjamin Franklin, having said that those willing to sacrifice liberty for safety deserve neither, would submit to a groin check.

I’m also appalled at how whenever there’s a “crisis” that needs solving, only solutions that are some combination of intrusive, debasing or generally corrosive to our freedoms are considered. If it was me, I’d first look at ways to solve a problem that involve INCREASED freedom for the good guys (those of us with jobs that produce, rather than consume, wealth).
the problem is that since the government is involved, those among us wearing burkas will scream violation of their first amendment rights and discrimination if the "secure airlines" requires the scanner before boarding
if the government is not involved in the secure airlines there wouldn't be a first amendment claim since no state involvement, however those same people will scream discrimination based on religion and ethnicity and kill the idea
my thought is that we just freaking profile...or have the government provide a "Muslim Air" system that is paid for by a "muslim tax" with no screening but no Muslims on the private airlines...
That would probably work exactly the opposite of what you anticipate, because those of us choosing Freedom Air would be armed with knives, guns, nail clippers and shampoo over 3 ounces just like in the old days before all this authority redistribution started. I can't imagine the Islamowacko that could stand up to guns, knives, nail clippers and shampoo, can you?
Even in Darwin’s universe an unyielding modesty serves the beneficial purpose of scheduling sexual behavior to a tolerable frequency by reducing encounters to those protected by familial claims of privilege, and if that is all modesty accomplished it would be worthy of protection.
But there is more to it than that. The process of incessant public humiliation is a reduction of our basic humanity, a slow destruction of the self, for some a loss so great that mere physical survival may not be the obvious choice. We are more than skin, muscle, bones, and organs. We are thought and belief, we are art and culture, we are music and innocence. we are romance and relationships and family, with all the odd little secrets that make such a life too wonderful to surrender for mere survival. If we cannot preserve what makes us human, cannot keep what grants us dignity of being, the right and the power to protect our own person, and those we love, then your Darwin is no help to us at all.
The junk is in our White House, IMO.
I see you’re already Big Brother-compliant. Congratulations. Or not.
But it’s exactly what needs to happen!
Maybe you can volunteer for the first multi-oriface cavity search.
Government tyranny is 10,000 times the threat that terrorist are. I’ll take the flight that performs limited, reasonable security, lets me exercise my 2A rights while flying, and profiles young Muslim men and then I’ll take my chances with the terrorists. You can fly with the rest of the sheeple on AirGulag or Air Auschwitz.
I feel sorry for you. It must be terribly depressing for you to live in a world where you are completely paralyzed by your fears.
I didn't know Bill Clinton had gone to work for the TSA.
I see a big fat Civil Rights lawsuit heading for the TSA and Mz. Napoleanatono somewhere in the very near future.
I had this done to me about 3 yrs ago, as I have a medal hip, and make the detector go off,I had me card in my hand, the guy was nice but I still had to get wanded and the belt check
When the government fears the People, there is Liberty- we need more of this, not less.
AirGulag! I think that has classic written all over it! Let's all use it whenever we discuss this incident and see if we can get it to catch on.
Just so you know, our airports are so safe that a guy I know got on a plane with 3 knives in his carry-on. THe TSA totally missed them. They had 6-inch-long locking blades on them. Elias Mohammed Yusef was his name.
AirGulag works for me.
You mean like this?
LOL!!!
Thank you, that is great!
