GRAND FORKS, N.D. - Duke without the Blue Devil? Notre Dame without the Fighting Irish? Most students and alumni at those proud universities wouldn't dream of dropping those enduring symbols of school pride.

That’s disgusting!!!!
Maybe they should change to the Leaping Lakota just to spite the NCAA!!!!
UND have been fighting this for some time now. Maybe they got a new PC Prez and knuckled under?
"Funny, but ever since EMUs Board of Regents foolishly voted to change the nickname to the Eagles, the football team, especially, has been grounded. One (1) winning season since 91 and that was just 6-5, in 1995. Eagles with clipped wings, apparently.
As I said, Im not alone in my outrage. Its been over 17 years, and I still cant get past it. Other alumni, many others, feel the same way. Some of the more belligerent (and wealthy) ones have told the school that there will be no more donations forthcoming until EMU is once again known as the Hurons."
Adoption of much of the Indian warrior culture has helped to make America great. Not so much now, but B4.
Per IIRC, Roosevelt: "If it wasn't for us, they would have killed themselves off a long time ago.
I had a lady friend, a very old and wise Seneca Indian...She says it was terrible; the children are not disciplined, most boys drink and are basically bums...AND THE GOOD ONES GO TO CANADA.
She was wonderful. Here name was Virginia Snow. She passed away a few yesrs ago.
By the way, as a German-American, I am offended by the GD pinkos who send their kids to Hessian Hills School. It is a painful reminder of the many Germans (not all Hessians) who were used as cannon fodder in the Colonial Rebellion. I want them to change their name.
/sarc
You also have the Big Sioux Truck Stop.
Does this mean they will have to return all of the money that one guy donated to build a new hockey arena with the stipulation that the Fighting Sioux nickname be kept? And who will do the refunding, the school or the NCAA? And what about the 150 or so logos built into the arena?
The school should change its mascot to the “Fighting 7th Cavalry”.
What about North and South DAKOTA?
The NCAA should force them to change their name.
>> In ancient times, it was a common practice to...
And the acts of the Taliban in recent times.
Florida State was smart (yes even I will admit it), they made a deal with the Seminole tribe.
But they have phased out the use of “Scalp ‘Em.”
NCAA= Now Considered As A-holes!
” Spirit Lake endorsed the nickname; Standing Rock did not.”
Is Ward Churchill a member of Standing Rock?
American Indians were the early test case that showed how being wards of the state destroyed people ... so of course the progressives have extended the benefit to as many as possible.
The individual conferences which make up college sports should rebel and start up a competing association to the NCAA and soon.
At this rate the NCAA will become a government organization since they are just as useless.
There’s been a few times already.. where school forced to change “Indian” mascot names.
Local indigenous tribes told NCAA to “Shut up, we LIKE IT” or “so what, leave it alone”
but NCAA knows what is offensive to indigenous peoples???
NCAA should change name to STFU!
By the way, can I assume they’re going to change the name of the state, too? Perhaps to North WASP-land?
Tell the NCAA to FOAD
Chief Joseph was another Great American. A lot of them were Native Americans, First Nationers, etc. who fought a heroic battle to preserve their way of life.
We should emulate them.
Joseph was a Nez Pierce, not a Sioux/Lakota/Dakota.
I wish some schools would get together and start a rival organization to give the NCAA competition.
The Seminoles are next, followed by any team named for an animal. Degrades the animals, according to PETA...............
