Tulsa, less than 9% black. Oklahoma City, around 11% black.

Well, as someone earlier pointed out, the "danger" isn't necessarily related to crimes.

I am shocked to see that cities such as Newark, NJ are not on this list.

I actually watched an episode of some gang documentary show last night. The city was OKC. Seems a lot of families left LA in the 1980s to get their kids out of the gang infested areas of LA and went to OKC. The kids all grouped back up and started new gangs.

From the article...

“The magazine used 2009 data from the Federal Bureau of Investigation’s statistics on violent crimes per 100,000 along with 2008 Department of Transportation data on the number of traffic fatalities per 100,000 residents. Furthermore, Forbes only ranked cities with 250,000 residents or more.

Chicago, Las Vegas and Virginia Beach, Va., were not included in the ranking due to lack of data.”

Things must have really changed in Tulsa since I lived there, because it was just about the safest city I’ve ever been in. More like a small town than a city.

I see that Stockton is falling down the list, I wonder if it’s because it’s actually getting better, or rather that the rest of the top 10 have gotten worse.

“The kids all grouped back up and started new gangs.”

Why didn’t they just spank ‘em and send ‘em to bed?;)

Tulsa doesn’t have a lot of minorities, period. A few rough neighborhoods, both white and minority, but I expect this ranking is driven by traffic fatalities, because seat belt usage is low in Oklahoma.

This listing is useless without D.C. and NOLA in the top 5.

Just the facts, folks.

If you don’t find your city on this list, then here is another one for you.

Add to that the growing number of muslims in Tn. Several of those cities also have growing numbers of them.

Impressively high, I would say, from personal experience. Also whiskey-tippling, among your Knights of Columbus, who (I suppose) wear their seatbelts to avoid being traffic fatalities.

Chicago, Las Vegas and Virginia Beach, Va., were not included in the ranking due to lack of data.

How convenient. That says to me Chicago topped the list, Vegas probably in the top 10 also. Hidden stats for Harry and Obongo.

That is, I was not guzzling the beer myself (wine is my favored adult beverage) but observed the consumption by my fellow Tulsans.

Lol! I see.

In any case, guzzling + no seat belts = danger!

The vast majority of traffic fatalities are *yes* alcohol and *no* seat belt. Of the two, no seat belt is the most closely correlated with fatalities. This makes traffic fatalities a very quirky proxy for “dangerous city,” because the event is almost completely under the control of the individual. If I wear my seat belt, I will not be a traffic fatality (with exceptions nearing statistical zero).
