Things must have really changed in Tulsa since I lived there, because it was just about the safest city I’ve ever been in. More like a small town than a city.

I moved from Los Angeles to the Tulsa area in 2003. It hasn’t changed. Very safe, low key and easy place to live. Even the “bad” areas don’t have bars on the windows or that seige mentality. I haven’t had adrenaline creep up my spine due to a subconscious perception of danger in the almost 8 years I’ve been here.....in LA, it was a daily occurrence, along with gun shots, circling helicopters with searchlights, open hostility among citizens, etc. Just a whole different feeling.

As far as danger, I would put the worst part of Los Angeles at a 9 (just below the danger in dangerous places outside the United States), and Tulsa at a 3 or 4 (and even lower if one is properly armed, as most of the bad guys aren’t nearly as accomplished or as serious about crime as they are in LA). There’s crime in my area, but it’s small, disorganized, and generally personal (”I need some meth”, as opposed to “my family has been running drugs for generations”). There are bikers who are involved in large-scale operations, but they generally keep their wars to themselves.
