The rating is based on violent crimes crossed with traffic fatalities. But if you have a lot of single-vehicle drunk driver fatalities, does that translate into “dangerous” for the average resident?
I lived in Tulsa and Oklahoma City and wasn’t concern about crime at all.
2) Why Little Rock, AR and Pine Bluff, AR isn't in the Top Ten.
Per-captia, Pine Bluff has always been in the top three (3) deadliest cities.
What about Phoenix? It’s supposed to have more kidnappings than any US city. (Or has that been debunked?)
houston and dallas?
I have family in OK city and they never had a problem..what about nyc? lol bet they dont include subway crime in their stats.
Cleveland is demanding a recount.
A sad day when Indianapolis pulls ahead of Gary, Indiana in this particular category.
Not knowing a lot about Oklahoma, I admit I was surprised at seeing Tulsa and OKC on the list.
Hard to say. Exactly what crimes is the ranking including under “violent crime”? Fistfights? I don’t care if drunks in bars or teens at football games get into fistfights, because I’m not there. Traffic fatalities are high where seat belt usage is low, but that doesn’t affect me, because I always wear my seat belt.
>Jeez...I’m scratching my head to try to figure out
>what those ten cities have in common...
For the racial makeup of the cities mentioned, see:
Memphis is about 40% black
I live about 50 miles south of Indianapolis and there are places in that city where I wouldn’t go without a squad of Marines and an armored personnel carrier.
I find this hard to believe. I lived in Tulsa and my daughter lives there. sure there are some areas that are bad but no t the town as a whole.
More dangerous than Oakland, Chicago or Detroit? I doubt it! The statistics are skewered.
Surprised either one or both didn’t make it to the list based on what I have heard about Dallas and what I know about Houston. When planning a trip to Dallas this fall to go to State Fair and play golf, several people who live there told us to not be anywhere near the fair grounds by ourselves after dark and gave us a list of once great golf courses to stay away from because of robberies. People in hotel there also warned us about being out late at night. I don’t go anywhere within the city of Houston after dark except for the Village, River Oaks and West U areas. There are many parts of Houston where the police no longer go so there are no crime reports generated so no stats.
Newark? Detroit? South Side of Chicago? Harlem? Bronx?
Well, maybe there’s so many to choose from that they just can’t all fit into the Top Ten. Yeah, that’s the way to look at it.
If you aren't an illegal alien with ties to the drug cartels, your Phoenix kidnapping risk is close to zero.
Tulsa, less than 9% black. Oklahoma City, around 11% black.
Wow we have shot enough bad guys to get out of the top ten! whoohoo!
I know DAllas. taking a kid to the zoo is scary
