I moved from Los Angeles to the Tulsa area in 2003. It hasn’t changed. Very safe, low key and easy place to live. Even the “bad” areas don’t have bars on the windows or that seige mentality. I haven’t had adrenaline creep up my spine due to a subconscious perception of danger in the almost 8 years I’ve been here.....in LA, it was a daily occurrence, along with gun shots, circling helicopters with searchlights, open hostility among citizens, etc. Just a whole different feeling.
As far as danger, I would put the worst part of Los Angeles at a 9 (just below the danger in dangerous places outside the United States), and Tulsa at a 3 or 4 (and even lower if one is properly armed, as most of the bad guys aren’t nearly as accomplished or as serious about crime as they are in LA). There’s crime in my area, but it’s small, disorganized, and generally personal (”I need some meth”, as opposed to “my family has been running drugs for generations”). There are bikers who are involved in large-scale operations, but they generally keep their wars to themselves.
New Orleans, Camden, NJ and Gary, Indiana are no longer on the list ?
What happened?
>Add to that the growing number of muslims in Tn.
Muslims don’t commit many street crimes. Unless you meant black Muslims?
Re: Unless you meant black Muslims?
The black Muslims are more of a political or anti-White thing than religious.
This list is silly.
Oklahoma City and Tulsa are not dangerous.
Most dangerous cities. Most safe cities. Most family-friendly cities. Most unfriendly to retirees cities. I really wish we could find out how these lists are compiled. What data (and money or lack of) is fed into the decision machine? What exceptions are made? What is left out when calculating crime and what is combined? Why do city officials spend thousands of taxpayer dollars actively campaigning for “safest city” awards from who? Then if they’re chosen, they spend thousands of taxpayer dollars travelling to a central point, where they’re wined, dined (by who?)and presented with whatever the distinction calls for.....a certificate, a few signs, banners? Yea! In El Paso, TX officials and police are milking this award (2nd safest city in America) to the hilt. Mayor, City Council, City Manager, Police Chief are all taking credit and daring the citizens to complain about recent criminal activity on the police force and corruption in city government. Why....we’re the 2nd safest city in America. How dare you question us? I think these lists are worthless. Opinions?
Tulsa? Really? San Fransisco, LA, Dallas and NYC are all much more dangerous cities than Tulsa or OKC.
Just the facts, folks.
Lists are compiled from FBI Crime Stats.

Yeah. I saw that. Still confuses me. Nearly every house in this town has burglar bars on the windows and security doors on outside entry doors. It’s a mystery.
Some cities don’t show up because the mayors and police chiefs don’t report true stats. Nashville cooks the books and it still shows up at 7. It should be right up there with Memphis.
Notice Chicago doesn’t even report its crime stats so it doesn’t show up at all.
When it comes to driving, it's already there.
BTW, I can't believe that Indianapolis is in the top ten and not Chicago. This doesn't pass the smell test.
Where’s Washington D.C.?
From the article you don't believe and didn't read.
"Chicago, Las Vegas and Virginia Beach, Va., were not included in the ranking due to lack of data."
Nashville is a big drug town.
Coincidence?
Perfect for their "new" NBA franchise.
Most of Houston is no more dangerous than those areas.
There are many parts of Houston where the police no longer go so there are no crime reports generated so no stats.
This is an out and out bald faced and stupid lie.
But ya know it really is only specific parts of each city that are responsible for most of the heinous crimes. Take Kansas City for example. 90% of the murders are in the areas where black on black crime is rampant and that would be the East Side.
Tulsa’s Northside, Omaha’s Northside, St. Louis’ allsides, and on and on. The rest of us are pretty much safe but the report sure does make for a whiz bang news report for a day or two on the local stations.
Remember this is November and November Sweeps is underway with SPECIAL REPORTS that the TV reporters have spent all week formulating, videotaping and breathlessly promoting.
How much I miss those days of shallow TV work. Thank God I learned to drive a big rig for an honest living.
