Minutes after Naomi Watts, movie star, arrived at the CIAs secret Virginia training center called The Farm, she was thrown to the ground in a way that left bruises.
When she cried out in pain, her instructor glared and informed her, Dont say 'ow again unless you need to go to the hospital.
During the days that followed, she was stripped of everything that cloaked her in specialness, said director Doug Liman.
The actress chose the rough treatment, Liman said.
He chose Watts to play Valerie Plame Wilson, the spy who was outed in one of the most controversial episodes of the Bush era. Plames husband, Joe Wilson, wrote a New York Times opinion piece critical of the war in Iraq. Plames identity was revealed shortly after, prompting accusations of retaliation.

... posing for paparazzi on the red carpet earlier this month at a film festival in Deauville, France."
The NYTimes writes:"...the so-named Plame Affair destroyed Mr. Wilson's international consulting business, wrecked her espionage career and nearly destroyed their marriage." Plame describes their marriage in her book as a "slow slide into nothingness"
The Spy Who Went Hollywood"?, but Ms. Wilson scoffs: Please, no,.. We have had just enough peek into the world of Hollywood to know that it is just not of interest to us. It really is high school with money.
Mr. Wilson described as....."pompous, self-centered, egotistical, by Karl Rove. Roves lawyer, Robert Luskin,"The movie will be a snooze;...the Wilsons are a little past their sell-by date.
"Hollywood filmmakers are famous for ignoring facts to dramatise a story in two hours or less, but Plame and her husband Joe Wilson seem happy with the condensed version of their tale of global espionage, Washington politics and White House scandal", writes the Indian Express. "The real-life couple relish the opportunity it brings to reinforce their sense of patriotism to movie audiences"
Sean Penn plays "Joe".
As I understand the story, she was never a “spy”
I think I’ll put this one on my “must miss” list.
What next, a story out of Hollywood on how the Rosenberg’s were really innocent?
I don’t wouldn’t blame them for blatantly lying in this movie. If only because that was one of the lamest political scandals in U.S. history. I hate the MSM for ever convincing me (briefly, in the beginning) that it was at all meaningful. What a waste of time, money, and effort.
Anyway, the mistake wouldn’t be to alter the facts. It’d be to make the movie at all. Because in order to stop it from being the boringest two hours of the year, you’d have to lie.
“What next, a story out of Hollywood on how the Rosenbergs were really innocent?”
Why not? They already tried to clear Oswald (directly and indirectly) several times.
She was a low to mid level analyst riding a desk and not a field agent is my understanding.
So, did they mention who was going to play Armitage?
Who’s playing that late, famous NEWSPAPER guy Robert Novak, who ratted her out, and NOT scapegoat Scooter Libby??
Feh. Another liberal rewrite of history. Refuse to spend any of my hard earned money on that crap. >:-(
Saw the preview when I went to see “RED.”
It took every bit of self-control I could muster to keep from throwing my Slurpee at the screen.
I’m pretty sure Novak’s name will ever come up in that movie.
Spy vs. lie is not a ‘Fair’ to remember
The ratter was Richard Armitage, one of Colin Powell's flunkies at State. He's the one who told Novak that Wilson's wife was CIA -- but he didn't mention her name.
Novak then looked up Wilson's wife in Who's Who and reported it.
Go check out wiki’s entry on her—apparently she was right up there with James Bond being ‘undercover’ (oooooooOOOoooo!!).
LOL.
THAT movie came out in 1983, titled “Daniel” it starred Mandy Patankin and featured Tim Hutton and Amanda Plummer.
Based on “The Book of Daniel” by lefty novelist E.L. Doctorow, it was a thinly disguised fictionalized retelling of the Rosenberg story, with names and characters changed. The mom and dad were portrayed as innocent martyrs of course.
I liked that from your NYPost review link.
He also called CIA and they confirmed it. If CIA rats you out over the phone, you're not undercover.
Think any of those FACTS will show up in this ‘movie’? Yeah, that’s what I thought.
A boring bureaucrat with a boring job whom nobody in the administration cared enough about to even attempt to “out” her.
Just a democrat/media-manufactured scandal to try and screw Bush that failed.
Who would want to watch a movie about it?
