Minnesota Rep. Michele Bachmann dropped out of the race for House Republican Conference chair on Wednesday night, ensuring that the GOP’s leadership elections will go on without any serious competition.
In a statement sent to a handful of reporters Wednesday evening, the tea party favorite said that Texas Rep. Jeb Hensarling has her “enthusiastic support for his candidacy” for the top messaging post in the GOP.

I think we need to support Michele Bachmann in her decision.
She is a great patriot and, like Sarah Palin, she will not be silenced.
She will be on the TV shows, not Jeb Hensarling. Let him do the work, and let Michele Bachmann appear in public.
He’s under the watchful eye of the newly-elected Tea Party Republicans. He’ll come through (or else).

I regret she won’t be in the leadership. But, she is also really intelligent and knows what is best.

Personally, I think this is good. Bachmann can continue to be a strong force without becoming a target for the media and a distraction. It’s professional that she’s endorsed the other guy.
I agree. And some people here were actually happy to see Michelle back off. Not this guy...
Sometimes I have to ask myself, do we really believe in our cause? Do we really want to see our allies in positions of power? It actually dumbfounds me the positions people take, who should know better.
Some of them are people I respect quite a bit.
Sorry, but I LOVE this. In leadership she would have been a poster-child, much like Pelosi. But now, the Republicans have a bunch of real CONSERVATIVES running the house that most people never heard of and cannot even pronounce their names.
She is perfectly fine without the leadership dragging down her time and can keep sticking it in the face of the Dems.

Why do you assume Hensarling is not “Tea Party?”
Aside from Boehner being the fill in leader for a year, who in current leadership was in leadership from 94-06?
Establishment people, fighting the revived conservative movement, and look at who is still in leadership, and who is fighting to keep out penetration from even one single outsider.
House Republicans may face a ‘civil war’ over Scozzafava bid

The House GOP conference is bitterly divided over a centrist New York Republican’s run for the House seat vacated by Army Secretary John McHugh.
Assemblywoman Dede Scozzafava, who backs abortion rights and has voiced support for gay rights, has drawn a challenger from the right who is running on the Conservative Party line. And though House leaders have urged conference members to donate, many have pointedly refused to back Scozzafava.
The Club for Growth, Concerned Women of America, former Sen. Fred Thompson (R-Tenn.) and evangelical leader Gary Bauer have all endorsed Doug Hoffman, the Conservative Party candidate.
The divide could foreshadow bigger troubles ahead for a party that hopes to make big gains in the House in 2010 and dreams of taking back the majority. Some members think that will be impossible as long as the party is divided over supporting centrist candidates.

Just 17 members — about 10 percent of the GOP conference — have written checks to Scozzafava’s campaign. They include House Minority Leader John Boehner (R-Ohio), Minority Whip Eric Cantor (R-Va.), National Republican Congressional Committee (NRCC) Chairman Pete Sessions (Texas) and Rep. Kevin McCarthy (R-Calif.), who is in charge of recruiting candidates to run next year.

I know Jeb Hensarling, we were his contact before the dems changed the districts, now his district is “up north”. We still hear from him and still support him. He has been in DC a few years. His mentor was Sen Phil Graham and Phil was his Economics professor at TX A&M. Yes, he is a lawyer, but he is very, very conservative and a gret l “bookkeeper”. We think a lot of his parents, they raised a nice, smart youngster.
I agree he will be under the watchful eyes of Tea Partiers, and that’s a good thing. I think all of our elected Republicans should be under the watchful eye of us. We’re Tea Partiers and as I’ve said before, “we’re so conservative we squeek”, Jeb knew that when he asked us to represent him in our area.

Get real, Hensarling is not tea party, one of the biggest complaints is his anti-tea party stance in New York, also his support by long time leader, and anti-tea party/anti-Palin man Cantor.
There is a reason that conservatives first reaction was to ask who he is.
Freerepublic is heavily infiltrated with neocons that have no soul, no love of the Lord, no desire to see him exhaulted in American society and culture.

You need to calm down and not get so personally involved with one candidate. I can tell why you usually post in forums protected by a moderator.
On this thread, posters have said they dont want Hensarling because he endorsed Scozzy.
On another thread today, posters said they didnt want Bachus because he didnt think O’Donnell should have been the nominee.
In 2006 and after, posters here said they didnt vote for Santorum because he didnt support Toomey.
In all three cases, people made their decisions based on feeling insulted, rather than looking at who would be best for the job presented. That is childish.

You’re welcome. When he comes on, it is mainly talking budget, and he says all the right things.
I will warn you that to pay attention to him, you will have to look “very” hard. I used to live in Lubbock and was there when Neugebauer was elected, but since Ive moved back, I havent heard anything about him.
That was perhaps the weirdest statement that I have ever heard here.
