California Contrail Explained - Not Missile
After having about 10 experienced pilots and another 20 of us who are accustomed to watching missile launches from Cape Canaveral review tape, we have most probable answer for the mysterious California contrail. Tape was also reviewed by senior official at NGA.
It is not a missile. It is the contrail of a airliner at altitude moving toward the camera, at an angle of about 30 degrees off center to the right. Retired TRANSPAC airline pilots and USAF types said it was a rather common sight to see as they are climbing out over water on a westerly heading at sunset.
A few clues:
1. This is not as new event. The photographer who took video said in interview that it was very much like others he had seen week earlier.
2. Expanding contrail plume gives illusion that bottom/rear of plume is closer to observer than the top/newest part of plume, that which is near the aircraft. It is an illusion.
3. The light emanating from the object that looks like rocket flame is a reflection of the sun off the aluminum bottom of the a/c fuselage. The clues that it is not a rocket flame are that it is not hidden by contrail, and more importantly, is the same color temperature as the sun's other reflections.
4. There were no alarms from the DSP satellites. They detect heat from rocket launches from geostationary orbit. They are very good, so good in fact that when Sovs had a fire in an ICBM silo a few years ago, it was reported at NORAD immediately.
5. No radar, and there are numerous ATC and air defense radars in that area, had any track, primary or transponder, of any object on a course as speculated.
All in all, a false alarm. A very interesting one, but a false alarm.
Not the first false alarm, either. In the 60s, we went to DEFCON 2 based on DEW and PineTree line radar returns indicating Sov bombers inbound over Greenland. Was really delayed radar echoes off the rising moon.
Damn!1 i hate the way Space.com moves crap on the same day they put it out.

Please use several sentences. Please explain the position of the plane, the position of the contrail, the position of the sun, the position of the camera. It would also be helpful if you were to postulate that -- if this were a missile -- how the sunlight would show itself dramatically differently in the plume.
Because I have no idea what it is you keep trying to say on these various threads.
Okay. I'm feeling dumb. I have absolutely no understanding of what you're saying. Please stop with the one sentence posts about the brightly lit east side. It means nothing to me. How about you try to explain? Please use several sentences. Please explain the position of the plane, the position of the contrail, the position of the sun, the position of the camera. It would also be helpful if you were to postulate that -- if this were a missile -- how the sunlight would show itself dramatically differently in the plume. Because I have no idea what it is you keep trying to say on these various threads.
Given that it is a missile rising vertically, how can the lower portion of the plume be lit on the east side when the sun is on the west side?
But again, if your theory is that Obama knew something was going to happen, and that he chose to be out of the country with enough staff to set up a government in exile (and that is your theory, right?), what happened? There was a contrail seen. That's it. So was Obama's intelligence bad? Was the Chinese missile (or whatever you think it was) a dud? What?
And what would be the advantage to Obama to be out of the country when this thing happened? Do you really think that he couldn't find some excuse to be in some secure location in the US, where it would be much easier to maintain control?
Seriously, your paranoia's getting the best of you.
You’re saying that something other than the sun is illuminating the plume? You suggest that the rocket’s engines are providing the lighting? Okay. I guess that’s possible.
I didn't cite an expert.
You don't need to be an expert to look at the photos and follow the logic. If you are determined to believe it was a missile no matter what, I can't help that.
No. I am saying that your viewpoint is inconsistent with the facts.
I don’t have a theory on this. I’m just observing things. And one of the things I’d like to know is how Obama’s entourage on this trip compares with those of other presidents or of Obama’s other trips. I don’t remember hearing anything about this kind of entourage before so I want to see whether that’s just because it wasn’t reported, or whether this trip was different that way.
Geez, seems like you’re paranoid about me being paranoid. lol.
I didn't suggest that but for you to say that it is moving away from you and the rockets engines can light the side of the plume away from the engines is nonsense.
Interesting. I find it interesting, also, that everyone was afraid that it was retaliation for the devaluation of the dollar by Obama. It shows how worried people are about Obama’s policies.
Now you’re saying that the rocket is heading due south? Moving away from Catalina Island, which would be due north? I haven’t heard that theory before.
I didn't say that and you didn't hear that theory from me.
But I note that you don’t deny that it is a plausible theory.
Exactly.
We are 53 nm west of the Cape and Shuttle launches can wake us in AM.
Ha ha! Excellent!
My latest graphic post re the "Outbound vs "Inbound" question...
At the contrail science page, if you go to the comments, they have stereoscopic pairs that prove it was inbound.
These pairs are presented not as cross your eyes types, rather you must make the right eye look at the right image and the left eye look at the left image.
I’m quite practiced at looking at stereoscopic pairs and the contrail is clearly inbound.
