California Contrail Explained - Not Missile
After having about 10 experienced pilots and another 20 of us who are accustomed to watching missile launches from Cape Canaveral review tape, we have most probable answer for the mysterious California contrail. Tape was also reviewed by senior official at NGA.
It is not a missile. It is the contrail of a airliner at altitude moving toward the camera, at an angle of about 30 degrees off center to the right. Retired TRANSPAC airline pilots and USAF types said it was a rather common sight to see as they are climbing out over water on a westerly heading at sunset.
A few clues:
1. This is not as new event. The photographer who took video said in interview that it was very much like others he had seen week earlier.
2. Expanding contrail plume gives illusion that bottom/rear of plume is closer to observer than the top/newest part of plume, that which is near the aircraft. It is an illusion.
3. The light emanating from the object that looks like rocket flame is a reflection of the sun off the aluminum bottom of the a/c fuselage. The clues that it is not a rocket flame are that it is not hidden by contrail, and more importantly, is the same color temperature as the sun's other reflections.
4. There were no alarms from the DSP satellites. They detect heat from rocket launches from geostationary orbit. They are very good, so good in fact that when Sovs had a fire in an ICBM silo a few years ago, it was reported at NORAD immediately.
5. No radar, and there are numerous ATC and air defense radars in that area, had any track, primary or transponder, of any object on a course as speculated.
All in all, a false alarm. A very interesting one, but a false alarm.
Not the first false alarm, either. In the 60s, we went to DEFCON 2 based on DEW and PineTree line radar returns indicating Sov bombers inbound over Greenland. Was really delayed radar echoes off the rising moon.

The guy used the size of known objects (the hill) the plane that flies into the frame in the first video. Counted frames and did some math. My guess is not exactly but my first reaction was that it was moving to fast for an aircraft. I work under one of the primary East/West flight paths. You get a sense of how fast commercial aircraft travel when making trails. Yesterday I was looking at lunch and two what were clearly Military fighters went by traveling very fast compared to the 747 I could see with binos.
After sundown I’ll see jets coming from the west. They look like bright stars due to the reflection off the body and the fact that they’re heading directly towad me makes them appear to be unmoving.
As they move closer the movement becomes apparent and they enter the shadow of the earth and then I see the normal flashing lights.
—same here where you can see both the LA and San Francisco flights coming to McCarran—I’m in a dark part of town and also get a good view of such stuff as the space station going over-—
Like many other odd videos, when they say, "It's just like . . .", I'd say "Show me one just like this." YouTube or any other place?
The leftiest conspiracy theorists are calling this a “false flag” event, setting up their coming military coup of Obama, or something. They don’t seem to have a consistent position on airplanes that are mistaken for incoming missiles that are going in the wrong direction.
If I see an airplane flying overhead, I believe it's an airplane. I don't start speculating that it may actually be Jesus flying over in a UFO disguised to look like an airplane.
In this case, with the photographic evidence possibly just showing an optical illusion, it makes sense to see what other evidence is out there.
There were zero reports from pilots about seeing a missile launch. Articles now are saying that there were no unexplained objects on radar at that time.
The only thing that could make those reports jibe with it being a missile on the video would be an unprecedented coverup. Not saying that massive coverup couldn't happen though. Just like maybe Jesus WILL fly over in his UFO one of these days.

I am dead set against ignorant conspiracy theory myself. It is fully obvious that this IS an airliner cruising out of a heavy moisture atmosphere, the Sun is reflecting off of it's belly and even it's anti collision lighting is still visible in the early sky.
What fuels my anger is the Press, making this out to be something that it clearly is not. They are the ones who look stupid.

I’m willing to believe the plane theory. If that’s the actual case- then why wasn’t the FAA/military able to immediately say this is an odd but normal opitcal illusion- it’s a simple jet contrail with intresting lighting.
WHY have they been jerking people around? If it was a plane- why didn’t they say- after reserching we fnd Flight # 808 from Hawaii to Arizona was in the air at that location etc..etc??

I'm appreciate good paranoia, LOL it's healthy to a certian point, but this ain't it.

Think about it, if there was a missile launch, why deny it? Even if it was something they wanted to cover up, like a chinese submarine-launched missile right off our coast... the easiest way to cover it up would be to just say it was a routine missile exercise by one of our subs. Nobody would think anything was unusual about that.
An airliner coming in over the horizon would make a contrail that looks just like that. If he was changing altitude, say, beginning his descent, there will be a point where he no longer produces a contrail and it just stops, leaving the optical illusion that it’s actually pointed the other way and disappearing.
Did they do the CIA video yet?

Well if anything it’s been an interesting display of human nature. Imagine when things get more complex.
Our propensity for wanting something to be is something we all must keep in self check and fight self deception.
Hence good scientific process and a good skeptical tool kit.
That being said, I can see something visually impactful as this being hard to understand without some experience and knowledge about it. So it is expected on some level.
