One difference between a political commentator and an ideologue is that the former understands his opposition. Here at NRB, one of our primary objectives is to seek and convey an accurate understanding of the ideologies we oppose. As a result, it never surprises us when a socialist acts like a socialist, or when an Islamist acts like an Islamist. We do not have to agree with people in order to understand their point of view.
Despite a professed capacity for empathy, pundits on the Left seem to have more difficulty than conservatives when it comes to understanding those with whom they disagree. Bill Maher is such a pundit. On Fridays Real Time, he asked panelists Dana Gould, Fareed Zakaria, and Rep. Darrell Issa to explain last Tuesdays election results.
How could people who are struggling really struggling, economically, worse than they have in so many decades Why did they pull the lever for the party that says out front, Were not gonna extend unemployment benefits. [The Republicans] big plan seems to be give rich people more money, or let rich peoples kids inherit more money. I just want to know why they voted Republican
There is much within the phrasing of his question which indicates why Maher cannot answer it. His reach into the psyche of voters is bound by his ideological zealotry.
In Mahers Bizarro world, government allows people to have some money, to hold some property, and have some input into the conduct of their own affairs. Looking at last weeks election results from this perspective, Maher cannot comprehend why voters dont appreciate the crumbs off their masters table. In an exchange with Congressman Issa, this Bizarro view was further manifest.

Headline does not need the last two words.
He had O’Reilly on his show and actually said that he had no idea how anyone could think Obama was a leftist.
I really like the points he makes — there is a difference between an ideologue and a commentator, that “we” tend to be more of the former, and “they” the latter, and the difference between the two is WHY “we” cannot have a rational debate with “them.”
Interesting.
Bill Maher is befuddled by Playskool toys.
He’s been befuddled by many more mid-terms than this...
This is why it’s impossible for liberals to be unbiased as journalist. They simply see things in such a way that their understanding of “facts” warps their ability to be unbiased.
obama is pissed because of his ears...maher is pissed because of his nose...they’re just pissed.
Michael Moore (quote), from his website, April 14, 2004...
"The Iraqis who have risen up against the occupation are not 'insurgents' or 'terrorists' or 'The Enemy.' They are the REVOLUTION, the Minutemen, and their numbers will grow -- and they will win. Get it, Mr. Bush?"
[actual quote from Michael Moore (2004). It still appears on his website]

I thought bill mayer knew the answer. Americans are stupid
Same thing happened to the other lib pundits back in 94
Obama is so much like Clinton it is like DeJaVou all over again
Can we have TWO first black presidents
When you understand that uber lefties like maher are completely ignorant of the meaning of work, his reaction is not surprising.
When I hear some leftie claiming “we” can not afford a TAXCUT, the key point is that they believe that the STATE OWNS all WEALTH (not unlike the National Socialist of German History). Issa could have spent his time on more important issue, rather than wasting time on Mahers show.
MEMO to Repubs:
NEVER ACCEPT A REQUEST TO GO ON MAHER SHOW.
Even if this was a legitimate reason for not voting Republican (which it is not), he forgets that there are social concerns that Americans feel strongly about. Illegal immigration, homosexual agenda, decline of family, moral decay, etc.
This is a concept many seem to have difficulty with for some reason. Rich people employ the rest of us. The richer they get, the more they employ.
What befuddles me is how long Maher was able to pass himself off as a libertanian.
Looks like Bill Maher got drug to it and don’t much like it.
Too bad, Billy boy...
