DOL tightens rules for new driver's licenses to stop fraud [WA]
Seattle Times ^ | November 07, 2010 | LORNET TURNBULL

One of only three states where illegal immigrants can still obtain driver's licenses, Washington is moving to tighten the rules.

Beginning Monday, the state Department of Licensing will require people without a Social Security number who are seeking a new driver’s license to provide proof they actually live here.

Washington stands with New Mexico and Utah in issuing driver’s licenses to illegal immigrants. And officials say an alarming number of out-of-state residents without Social Security numbers have been obtaining licenses here in recent years – this year more than double what it was three years ago.

Officials believe many of these licenses are fraudulent, issued to people who aren’t moving here but who say they are because they can no longer renew their driver’s licenses in the states they live in.

WA Licensing officials see the abnormally high declaration rates – 65 percent of all applicants from North Carolina, for example; 58 percent for those coming from Michigan – as a sign that people are obtaining licenses here, then returning to their lives in other states.

Amazing that WA government can be so stupid and irresponsible and the direct cause of lawlessness across the US.

Utah and New Mexico - what is your problem, too?

Utah used to be populated with normal people. What happened anyway? Californianitis? Any Utahans here? I noticed half the state went blue during the last election.

Californians should be pinned down in California before they infect other areas.

I agree. They really know how to trash a state.

Do not change titles as it fouls up the search function and causes articles to be pulled to avoid duplications.

In other words, for the government of the State of Washington, they don’t mind in the least giving licenses to illegals as long as they actually live here.

The ability to change state law to require proof of legal status to get a driver's license rests with the Legislature, where past efforts have stalled.
Washingtonians have also not been inclined to change the law. This year, for the fifth year in a row, an initiative to deny licenses to illegal immigrants failed to get enough signatures to get on the ballot.

Then this rule is merely smoke and mirrors. No wonder the Democrats sweep the elections there.

I also noted that Washington issues drivers' manuals in six languages other that Emglish, so how can those drivers read the various "Detour Ahead" warnings that don't use the international sign shapes?

Voting in Washington is strictly via mail(?)

If so, and add that to “anyone gets a driver’s license,” and yeah, why bother with elections, save everyone the angst and just deed the state to the rats.

Orchardists and farmers are the conservatives most supportive of illegal aliens in the state of Washington. Their crops would rot if it wasn't for illegal aliens working to bring in harvests.

The key, especially in states like Oregon (grape harvests), Washington and Utah, is for the agriculture sector of our economy to resolve the labor intensive aspect of their businesses. Until then farm migrants, overwhelmingly illegal aliens from Latin America, will be in the U.S. That means they will get drivers licenses any way they can, and it will result in some of them voting in our elections.

Ironic - we're paying Americans to not work (unemployment) while we pay peanuts to illegals to work. Perhaps instead of hiring Mexicans, we can make crop harvesting part of a workfare program.

Your idea is a good one and has been proposed in the past.

The problem with it is that the people on welfare are often disabled - mentally and/or physically unable to do the kind of hard labor required for harvesting - and generally living in major population areas, great for getting social services but located hundreds of miles from agricultural areas.

I've always believed teenagers and college students should be doing this kind of work — to help defray education costs and provide themselves with money for medical insurance, clothes, and school supplies.

Labor unions and the Democrat party have put the kibosh on that practice, which was not uncommon forty years ago.

Corruption is how the Left retains control in this state. Just look at how our elections have been conducted this century. Corruption so deeply embedded that unlike Chicago they don't really try to hide it.

Seattle may be pretty, but it's very rotten inside.

I have never seen an attempt to get signatures for an initiative to deny licenses to illegals. Where do they go to get these signatures? Must be where all the illegals live, as like I said I have never seen one. Has anyone else here seen one?

I’ve been after the Legislature, Secretary of State Sam Reed and his predecessor to repeal Motor Voter and to clean the voter rolls. So far nothing has been done. We have what we have because not enough others bothered to take matters in hand and tell our elected public servants what we expect of them in their jobs - then, when they failed to get the job done, fire them.

This recent election proves they aren’t listening when we talk or write to them. Not enough of us bothered to cast a ballot to really make a difference in the outcome. I believed we were going to do it, but I find I was sadly mistaken.

Here is something related... Apparently, any ILLEGAL ALIEN, can walk into an Illinois DMV, and ask to obtain a Driver's License or State I.D. with an obviously FAKE Birth Certificate. Even one in crayon, like the one below will do...

They will be turned down if it appears false, but they will not be arrested. Instead, they will be ASKED to Register TO VOTE!!

Here is the source paragraph for that, within this story...
Citizen has “Standing” to contest the eligibility of candidates for office

... When you register to vote in Illinois, one of the places you can go is the Department of Motor Vehicles. I have testimony from an elected county clerk in Illinois who stated that if somebody goes to the Motor Vehicle Department and wants to get a state ID or a driver’s license and they’re turned down because upon examination by the person at the window, it’s determined that the ID presented is false, then that person will not permit them to get a state ID or a driver’s license, but they are required to offer to register them to vote and to permit them to register. When that happens, you might say, “Well, surely, somebody will catch it,” but that’s not the case. In Illinois, they do not allow the county clerks access to the nationwide database of illegals; they do not allow them any access to find out the citizenship status of people who register.
I wonder how many other state DMV's are required to do this? Nevada? New York? California? Probably all of those plus more

Just for your edification, there is no “Department of Motor Vehicles” in Illinois. All driver’s licenses and license plates are issued by the Secretary of State, who currently is Jesse White. While I cannot vouch for the credibility of the author suggesting that a person can be denied a driver’s license, but is automatically registered under the Motor Voter laws, I would be cautious in believing that without proper verification.

Unfortunately, WA ST is completely in the hands of the RATS. I’m surprised this isn’t happening in Kaliforneeea.
