While the Republican gains in the House and Senate are grabbing the most headlines, the most significant results on Tuesday came in state legislatures where Republicans wiped the floor with Democrats.
Republicans picked up 680 seats in state legislatures, according to the National Conference of State Legislatures -- the most in the modern era. To put that number in perspective: In the 1994 GOP wave, Republicans picked up 472 seats. The previous record was in the post-Watergate election of 1974, when Democrats picked up 628 seats.
The GOP gained majorities in at least 14 state house chambers. They now have unified control -- meaning both chambers -- of 26 state legislatures.
That control is a particularly bad sign for Democrats as they go into the redistricting process. If the GOP is effective in gerrymandering districts in many of these states, it could eventually lead to the GOP actually expanding its majority in 2012.

NJ has a very popular governor to help in 2012.
‘In a sense, this is even better news than the House gains.
Real change will come at the state and local levels.’
Let’s also not forget that this wipeout was led by the activism - the tea party activism. GOP benefitted, but that was what led to it. So next time someone bemoans the Tea Party and Christine O’Donnell (whatever your thoughts there - and I supported her), then you shoot right back about 680 pickups at the state and local level, let by TEApublicans across the nation.
This will also affect state races and statewide races with great rank and file Conservatives coming up and through the system for a decade or more (not to mention redistricting!)
“We will gain more House and Senate seats plus the Presidency in 2012. Now lets get to work team!”
Good admonition at the end of that; this will not come without a fierce fight, as the socialists realize the extent of their demise...
“Start prepping for 2012...target N.J. and Va. in 2011!!”
Nice plan...
“Amen! Repeal the 17th and you’ll sink the Federal Government shrink.”
That would require a Con Con - is it time to broach that topic? If we can a Con Con, I want to see term limits for Senators & Reps - 2 x 6 year terms, and 6 x 2 year terms max.
That last one must have been “the state of Eau Claire”...

“Gallup’s +15 generic ballot was off by almost 50% (it was +9)”
This would have been a nice reverse psychology ploy to turn out desperate RATS in places like NV and CA also, wouldn’t it? I don’t trust Gallup these days...Ras was pretty close yet again, wasn’t he? Except for NV and perhaps CA.
phase one.....more to come !
Ras was closer. Everyone was a little high IIRC.
The real clear politics average of polls had us taking CO and NV for a total of 49.
Sorry, you’re right. It would take 2/3rds vote of both Houses of Congress to propose such a repeal (meaning 67 Senators), ‘and ratified by three-fourths of the states or by three-fourths of conventions thereof, the method of ratification being determined by Congress at the time of proposal.’
Now are we talking about the 17th - direct election of Senators or the 16th - the federal income tax amendment?
Take no prisoners! Show them no quarter! Pressure these LIB morons with emails, letters, personal visits and phone calls until they hide whimpering in their closets, wetting them selves. I don’t care if I am seen as “mean spirited” or “insensitive”. America and Freedom are worth my reputation being “tarnished”. F’em!
“In a sense, this is even better news than the House gains.
Real change will come at the state and local levels.
A return to Federalism starts with the states”
I agree this is the real fruit f this victory if we can harvest it.
A return to Federalism will spell the competitive death nail of liberalism/collectivism.
What pubbies need to do is pass instant runoff laws for all public offices in every state they can. That would guarantee no more Al Frankens.
The fact that they have 23 to defend next time does.
We have Claire McCaskill, a leftwinger Obama fan up for re-election in MO in 2012. Would be FANTASTIC if David Limbaugh would run for senator against McCaskill. Dreaming but dreaming big.
Gerrymandering is a bunch of crap regardless of who is doing it. I dont want repubs solidifying there support by redistricting, I want them solidifying there support by doing what the hell we voted them in for in the first place. Gerrymandering should be outlawed.
The boundaries have to go somewhere and the philosophy of where to put the boundaries has to be driven by someone. Plus the ‘Rats are going to try to take advantage in every way they may and more.
I’m not arguing the logic behind it at all. If you can redistrict then might as well make the best of it. My point is i dont think it should be allowed at all. I dont think the founders intended for districts to be all different shapes and sizes, Im sure they had more of a box of land kind of idea in mind.
It was an ass kicking of epic proportion.
The primary message from the media....
Republican civil war between Establishment and TeaParty.
Palin is still stupid.
lol
That’s all they got...and make no mistake they are scared shitless about Sara Palin.
