William Ayers, 1960s radical and retired University of Illinois at Chicago professor, said Wednesday any suggestion he dedicated a book to the man who assassinated Robert Kennedy was fiction invented by right-wing bloggers.
"There's not a shred of truth in it," he said.
William Ayers said any suggestion he dedicated a book to the man who assassinated Robert Kennedy was fiction.
His words came as the UIC Senate sent a letter to the university's board of trustees asking it to reconsider a September vote denying Ayers emeritus status.
"We believe that the possibility that this vote will cast a chill on open discussion is a serious possibility, which can only damage the academic freedom that we cherish," the letter reads.
Board chairman Chris Kennedy, who was 4 when Sirhan Sirhan murdered his father, said at the September meeting he could not support the honor for "a man whose body of work includes a book dedicated in part to the man who murdered my father." He also said board discussion on the issue was not a threat to academic freedom.
On Wednesday, Kennedy declined to address Ayers' comments. He said that of the hundreds of votes the board of trustees has taken since he was appointed chairman, none has been his alone.
"I continue to value the input, feedback and friendship from the faculty," he said.
The University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign Student Senate, an all-student group, passed a statement supporting the board's decision.
Tom Hardy, university spokesman, said feedback the university received on the issue "was overwhelmingly positive." But academics at universities around the country publicly expressed concern that the board was overstepping its authority.

“There’s not a shred of truth in it,” he said.
“My words have cost me something I desire, so I repudiate them.
Can I be emeritus now?”
I realize now that he probably had to write Obama’s books - not only because Obama is too stupid to write them himself, but because it provides a layer of insulation from Obama himself being able to be charged with violating the Federal General False Statement Act. Obama didn’t deliberately deceive Congress; he only deliberately deceived Bill Ayers, who then deliberately deceived Congress.
Only trouble is, the Federal General False Statement Act, by making DECEPTION and not just outright statements criminal when matters of federal jurisdiction are involved, means that Obama failing to correct the errors found in those books is also a federal crime. I don’t have the stomach to try to read that crap again; does anybody remember if “Dreams” actually specifically says that Obama was born in Hawaii?
Welcome to the 'right-wing' Chris Kennedy. /s
What Ayers did, duh, was use Tubman and Brown as cover for the others listed including Sirhan. See, John Brown massacred to end slavery so Sirhan had good reasons to shoot JFK in the head.
Perhaps as sickening is Ayers being a cowardly liar in an effort to gain some academic BS honor from an institution he probably would have bombed.
11 secs apart. GMTA
I hereby vow to my fellow Freepers that if I am ever diagnosed with an incurable disease, I will beat the living sh*t out of William Ayers so badly that he will spend the rest of his life urinating and defecating into bags attached to his wilted anatomy.
All I ask is that on my tombstone, a grateful nation inscribe the words, “He’s the guy who beat Bill Ayers like a bad drum.”
You are welcome.
Just to mention Sirhan was an Arab terrorist who killed RFK on the anniversay of the Arab countries attacking Israel.
We’ll dedicate a book to you, LOL
Never mind. The above photos of pages from the book pretty much prove to anyone who is NOT a rabid leftist that Ayers is the one who is lying.
Ayers book has a shout out to ‘political prisoners’ On that list he includes Sirhan Sirhan.
I know!
I’m shocked, too.
;-)
Depends on what the meaning of “dedicated” is.
If you want to see what a real piece of work this bastard is, check out a few of the other “names” in the list. Here’s a typical example:
“Proclaiming himself their leader, Fred (”Ahmed”) Evans, 37, an astrologer, calmly surrendered in the midst of the battle and just as calmly informed cops that he would have knocked off more of them if his gun had not jammed. Police found the weapon, a .30-cal. carbine, in a bush where Evans said he had dropped it. Evans, who affects the loose African dashike robe, received a $7,350 grant this summer from “Cleveland: Now!”, Stokes’ action group for civic betterment. He seems to have used the funds to better the community by buying weapons to disrupt it.”
I have a feeling that every name there belongs to a real dirtbag.
Ayers did seek emeritus status according to press reports.
“He retired effective Aug. 31 and then sought the emeritus faculty status, a largely honorific title that includes some benefits such as library privileges.”
Thank you. Please entitle it, “The Crazy Calabrese.”
He's correct. There's not a shred of truth in it. There's a boatload of truth in it. That's different than a shred.
