NPR faced fierce public and political reaction - most of it strongly negative - in the wake of its firing of commentator Juan Williams for comments he made on a Fox News program earlier in the week.
Even NPR's own staff expressed exasperation at the decision during a meeting Friday with NPR's president, Vivian Schiller. Several of those who attended said Schiller told employees that she regretted how she handled the episode.

Floorboards. Screw.
rofl, nice 2 cent
Our tax paying dollars go to public radio and tv that is basically a 24/7 campaign for liberal/democratic viewpoints.
Our tax paying dollars go to AFSCME who in turn have a portion of pay going to the campaign for liberal/democratic viewpoints.
Our tax paying dollars go to Federal Dept of Education which developes mediocre programs that promote liberal/democratic view points.
THIS IS WRONG WRONG WRONG......
Agreed. And the reason we need to go after their sponsors, too. Give them calls and let them know of dissatisfaction..how their image is being tarnished by NPR's bigotry.
“But Mathes said she hoped the controversy didn’t translate into political action that could hurt all of public broadcasting. “I would hope that it reinforces how important it is for funding sources to be firewalled from editorial decisions. Whatever government funding a station gets needs to be protected from the vicissitudes of emotion and passion over a particular issue.” “
The question of course is,why any public funding and how did we get to the point where its taken as the norm as this woman clearly believes.
Absolutely they should be cut off. They’re day has come and gone. I have access to over 200 channels of programming, not to mention the internet. And guess what? For the most part, all the channels and all the websites find a way to support themselves. I can not think of one single reason why one dime of public money should be wasted on an entity that cannot support itself my delivering value to a targeted demographic. Most mothers quit breastfeeding their young when the young get their teeth. Time for NPR to fly or die.
These assinine twits need a pink slip from us.
Can you imagine anyone as incompetent and incoherant as Vivian Schiller being the CEO of anything at all before the advent of Affirmative Action and Political Correctness?
Can you imagine how long she would last as the CEO of a private business that actually had to survive and prosper on profits earned by providing goods or services people would actually buy?
Well, tonight they say they are “meeting or exceeding” their fundraising goals which tells me they are having problems.
for the 1.8 Millon from Soros, they risked alot more.
Here’s the point of reality. NPR only receives $850k a year from congress directly. They’ve bundled themselves up into a massive money-game so you can’t really figure out the real input. Via their buddy, Public Broadcasting, they get another chunk of taxpayer money. Altogether, sixteen percent of their budget relates to US government money.
In the old days...with jazz, opera, and classical music taking up half of the hours per day...this sixteen percent budget was sufficient to pay all the bills. Today, with a massive complex of pretend-to-be-journalists and their DC expense account....they need millions beyond what the government gives.
Enter the foundations and public donations. Eighty-four percent of the budget comes from these two. For the small stations throughout the US to survive...they need local public donations to survive and keep broadcasting. If the local donations dry up suddenly...then local folks start laying off their team, and the system starts drying up.
If you wanted to really change things...tell the local guys that you want the old format back...jazz, opera and classical to be half the format, and you want two hours a day of just plain local and non-DC-directed news...frankly, no political news because you already get enough of that via everyone else. If the local stations came to demand this...you’d notice some worried folks at NPR HQ’s.
bump for later
I was impressed with the wording but knew it was overkill. Its difficult to make an impassioned plea while trying to demonstrate ones mastery over the language.

I can’t help feel it’s screaming “I went to college” while assuming the entire audience is the unwashed masses. Some of us went to very good schools and find the condescension quite insulting. But, that’s the liberal left. (Zipping lips so not to get banned.)
Funny, those were all times when Muslims didn't wear ‘garbs’, exactly opposite of what Juan was talking about.
How do we convince a terrorist to blow up a couple of abortionaries? Maybe, if we say Mohammedan babies are being murdered to reduce their population (like they do with blacks).
Now THAT would get the LIBs attention.
It’s time to investigate every tax exempt political action organization in the US! I see estimates that NPR actually receives ~ 15% of its operating revenue from the Fed’s theft of taxpayer dollars but another 25% comes from their pitiful whining to the listening base. If 1/2 the listeners + the 15% from the taxpayer thievery were to disappear they would lose ~ 30%....but if NPR & PBS lose their tax exemption status also they would likely find themselves out of business.
Obama would declare total nuclear war that day.
BRILLIANT post.
I’ll go a step further and say many never spent a day in college and are just as intelligent as those who graduated with honors. Its the lib mentality to confuse education with intelligence.
