NPR faced fierce public and political reaction - most of it strongly negative - in the wake of its firing of commentator Juan Williams for comments he made on a Fox News program earlier in the week.
Even NPR's own staff expressed exasperation at the decision during a meeting Friday with NPR's president, Vivian Schiller. Several of those who attended said Schiller told employees that she regretted how she handled the episode.

After 9/11, Fort Hood, Times Square, Detroit, Bali, Madrid, London and the Mumbai bombings/shootings, liberals are in shock that people still make a connection between Islam and terrorism. How many times do Muslims have to blow things up to prove they're peaceful???
Ever since Iranian "students" stormed the U.S. Embassy in Tehran 31 years ago, 'deceived' normal Americans have kept making such connections, while Democrats have kept furiously denying such connections and screaming that profiling Muslims -- as opposed to Tea Partiers, "right-wing" militias, veterans, Christians, etc. -- is evil. In fact, these darling liberals since 9/11 have privately asked, 'Where's Timothy McVeigh when you need him?'
Juan Williams got canned 3 seconds after Hamas's front group "CAIR" warned NPR to get rid of its only sane analyst. Among the ever-evolving and self-parodizing excuses for firing Williams after saying something rational, honchette Vivian Schiller claimed he was fired in the name of tolerance. And for his "thoughtless" comments about Muslims. She then "apologized" to the press for her thoughtless comments about Juan Williams needing a therapist.
When all that didn't work, the next compelling excuse was that Williams had been repeatedly warned about having an opinion, that it violated NPR's 'ethics code' and its 'editorial' 'standards', which apparently consist of wishing AIDS on Jesse Helms' grandchildren, hoping for the evaporation of 4 million Christians, since it "would leave the world a better place," etc. (George Soros liked these comments so much, he bought NPR.)
When that excuse didn't work, Williams had to be fired because he put the spotlight on himself. If that's the policy, now that NPR has put the spotlight on NPR, it should fire itself.
Say, why doesn't NPR take its fears of Juan Williams up with its in-house psychiatrist?
Anyway, that's...
My Two Cents...

Saturday-morning PING!
When they get around to blowing up something liberals care about--not like American soldiers or the Pentagon, but, say, a mosque or something identified as having nothing to do with white males--they'll start to care. (Seriously.)
We’ll see how this works out if Taliban and Al Qaeda guys start showing up on the battlefield carrying their explosives in NPR totebags.
P.S. Excellent commentary.
Its not about Juan, guys, really. Its just that, in these hard economic times, we can’t afford to be subsidizing a wholly owned Soros subsidiary.
Cut them off. In an XM-Sirius world where there are hundreds of radio stations out there, in a cable TV world where there are hundreds of stations to choose from, we don’t need to be supporting these windbags. If they can’t get regular jobs, there must be some kind of SSI program for old hippies.
I find I can bear the discomfort of NPR with enormous fortitude.
” ... NPR staffers fear financial backlash ... “
I sincerely hope that their fears are well-founded, and are realized to the fullest extent possible, as in bankruptcy! What a boat load of pure 100% hypocrites!
Yes, financial punishment is due to NPR for their actions. Actions past this episode. Zero funding from the 112th Congress is what is needed. And punishment to all those in the media (public & corporate) who enabled the traitors who attempt to destroy this great nation.
FUBO! And the same to George Soros
If a member of the Religion of Peace blew-up NPR Headquarters would: 1) anyone miss it and 2) would the Left finally understand there are NO “moderate” Muslims because Islam is about submission and not coexistence?
Does anyone recall when Jesse Jackson made a similar commentabout feeling safer when walking down a dark street and finding out that the person walking towards him was white?
No Public funding for such a blatantly biased operation. If it wasn't for public funding, the liberals would have to pay their own way. If they had to pay their own way, they'd get a few lessons in fiscal responsibility...which leads to having to confront reality.
That might be damaging to the liberal psyche.
Of course, liberals would regard that sentiment as "subversive"....maybe even "hate"ful.
NPR would pull a Michael Moore and say “You blew up the wrong one, it’s FOX you want!”
NPR will never get blown up, terrorists figure it’s a useful tool of torture. If they strapped me down and forced me to listen to it for more than an hour I’d give up my own mother to get them to shut it off.
Most at MSNBC like it.
NPR is speaking out of both sides of their mouths, claiming that taxpayer funding amounts to only a small percentage of their revenue yet they seem genuinely fearful that public funding will be cut off.
Which is it?
I say we find out by ending all taxpayer subsidies not only of NPR, but also of PBS and CPB. If our budget is in such dire straights, it’s really indefensible to waste our money on something the private sector provides very well.
And, while we’re at it, let’s defund the “arts”. The same logic applies. Times are tough, the budget is tight and we really can’t justify such trash (um, I mean, “art”) when we are up to our eyeballs in debt.
There is not a doubt in my mind that the inspiration for Schiller’s righteous indignation was the childish walk-off-the-set theatrics by Whoopie Goldberg and Joyce Behar on ‘The View’ last week, in reaction to a comment about Muslims made by Bill O’Reilly.
I would bet anything that Schiller watched that show, tilted her head, and thought, “Gee, what a really cool and morally upright thing to do! Take that, O’Reilly!” She wanted to do something just like that so she could be cool, too, and earn some smiles and pats on the back from the liberal cocktail crowd she cavorts with.
So she “walked off the set” by firing Williams for the insensitive, O’Reilly-like comments about Muslims which... whaddaya know!... Williams made to that very same Bill O’Reilly on the hated Fox News channel! It was a perfect storm for Schiller, who reportedly had been looking for an excuse - - any excuse - - to dump Williams precisely because of his employment with Fox News.
She had it all figured out. ...Only it didn’t quite work out the way she expected.
Schiller should be fired ASAP. What a freaking idiot.
I really think this woman should move to an Islam country and submit to their laws. She won’t because she knows she would not last a minute.
JohnHuang2, that is the most insightful, cogent post you have made since the heady Bubba Clinton days. Kudos.
npr and their defenders pretend that npr receive very little government funding. I guess they won’t miss us removing their funding then. Whenever a liberal politician complain, the gop should just say, it only represent 2% of npr, it wont hurt npr
There have been hints and insinuations and mild comments about the pressure being put on Conservative talk-show hosts, including Fox News, to dance to the tune of those who think they are the elites. Those who are on the receiving end of that pressure - because they are intelligent, astute, and patient - have bided their time to wait for the right incident to fight back, and fight back hard.
I believe we are seeing that incident and a determined and solid stand by the Conservative media. The pain that Juan has experienced is unfortunate for him, but the reaction is a thing of beauty.
