Sarah Palin calls for Congress to defund NPR over Juan Williams’ firing
Daily Caller ^ | 10/21/10 | Caroline May -

In the wake of National Public Radio firing Juan Williams for comments he made about Muslims on “The O’Reilly Factor,” Sarah Palin took to her Facebook page Thursday afternoon to call for NPR’s defunding.

“National Public Radio is a public institution that directly or indirectly exists because the taxpayers fund it,” she wrote. “And what do we, the taxpayers, get for this? We get to witness Juan Williams being fired from NPR for merely speaking frankly about the very real threat this country faces from radical Islam.”

Palin acknowledged Williams’ past criticism of her, but asserted her devotion to free speech and the need for open and honest debate.

“Are we not allowed to say that Muslim terrorists have killed thousands of Americans and continue to plot the deaths of thousands more? Are we not allowed to say that there are Muslim states that aid and abet these fanatics? Are we not allowed to even debate the role that radical Islam plays in inciting this violence?” she posted.

Palin went on to write that it is now up to Congress to take away NPR’s funding and for President Obama to take notice and speak out.

“President Obama should make clear his commitment to free and honest discussion of the jihadist threat in our public debates – and Congress should make clear that unless NPR provides that public service, not one more dime,” she wrote.

“Mr. President, what say you? “

Perfect - call him on it. Sarah Palin keeps outdoing herself.

NPR has made a very incredibly bad mistake.

Their position is indefensible, especially considering who Juan Williams is.

Assign a market value and put it up for sale, lock stock and barrel.

NPR CEO Vivian Schiller: "...this has nothing to do with Fox News or his particular views of Muslims." She is also sorry NPR did this while most public radio stations are in the middle of their fall pledge drives.

You have to love the timing of this! LOL

They will have to go back to Soros for more than the 1.8 million he gave them!

It shouldn’t just be defunded. It must also lose its non-profit status and all of its station broadcast licenses should be revoked. If NPR is to exist independently of the government, it should have to start from square one.

What’s more... Islam plays at intimidation, Juan Williams is simply the latest case in point. To be effective at intimidation, all Islam had to do is show their willingness to go to whatever extreme necessary, thus our 911... murder and mayhem in broad daylight in the most graphic of images. They figured, and correctly so, that all or most of the rest of us will surrender through intimidation tactics. The liberal bastions in the US, particularly our politics and the media, have been subdued, (same for Europe). And now, their work is being performed by subdued liberals.

I say, the end goal of both moderate and radical Islam is the same, to subdue the earth, one method pushes the other pulls. If it looks like too many are making a stand against Islam, expect another, even larger attack. If it looks like subjugation is taking hold, then we can expect a little more security.

*** To be effective at intimidation, all Islam had to do is show their willingness to go to whatever extreme necessary, . . . ***

And the politically correct terrorists of the left use the same tactics.

I agree, and not just because of Juan, though this is a good moment to make our point. I like Juan, but he’ll find work. I don’t want NPR to give him his job back, I want them privatized.

Let them sell ad time, or let Soros fund their operations. They should not be feeding off the federal dime.

I’m looking for Repubs to go to congress spoiling for a fight, and this would be a good first gesture. I’ve got a few other things on my list too but this is as good a start as any.

What a great idea. Since Soros just gave NPR $1.8 Million, why should taxpayers have to support such a biased news organization that obviously censors opinions. Screw NPR.

I stayed away for a long time. But recently I visited just to see their heads exploding over the election. A day later I noticed I had a virus on my computer. I blame DU.

Assign a market value and put it up for sale, lock stock and barrel.

I'd be characterized as a Social Conservative on most issues. But when it comes to government funding (and control) of what is rightfully the realm of the free market, I have a definite Libertarian streak.

There's no question in my mind that not a cent of our money should fund ANY form of media. The whole alphabet soup of CPB, PBS and NPR should be defunded. And I'd say the same thing if pubcasters were completely Conservative in their content.

The free market does a fine job in this area with a plethora of choices supported by the proven, working model of advertiser support. Public broadcasting only impedes free enterprise and the marketplace of ideas.

Wouldn’t it be ironic that after all the years, multiple attempts to reduce, or rescind funding for CPB over those years that the firing of a Leftist idiot such as Juan Williams (The reason I won’t watch Fox News Sunday with my wife) becomes the war cry that finally does them in?

I won’t watch any television anymore much less CPB, or is it BBC as I believe about everything they broadcast to be some form of Leftist intrusion, manipulation, subliminal, not so subliminal messaging that I don’t want to be subjected to, but in the case of Fox News Sunday Juan makes it a glorious waste of time with his insane prattlings.

Cut the funding to CPB. I know the Leftists will fight like “H” to keep it, but they need to be knocked on their butts once in awhile, and this is as good a time, and this is as good a reason as any to do it.

I like Sarah Palin a lot but she needs to lose this constant cat-fight victim stuff.

Why do you like her a lot if she's constantly involved in "cat-fight victim stuff?"

I've never liked anybody "a lot" who was involved in "constant cat-fight victim stuff."

In fact, I've never even had a shred of respect for anyone involved in "constant cat-fight victim stuff".

Please expound on "constant cat-fight victim stuff" and why you like someone "a lot" who is involved in it. Thanks in advance.
