A backlash against China's powerful presence in the Zambian economy has been triggered by an incident in which 11 miners were shot by Chinese managers.
Police said that the Chinese executives opened fire on workers protesting against poor pay and conditions at the Collum coal mine in the southern Sinazongwe province on Friday.

Miss whitey yet?
Next time, there won't be any stray witnesses.
“I owe my soul to the CHICOM store”
What’s the big deal? They are just getting the same treatment that miners in China get!
Well, that’s DIVERSITY! Equal treatment, Chinese style.
The firings will continue until employee morale improves.
The Chinese Dragon = Enslavement
I can already hear it now: “Pang! I told you, head and heart, not limbs!”
Trust the Chinese to act in a more literal manner.
Oh you have no idea my friend. The Chinese have thousands of years of learning about how to subdue captured populations. The people of Zambia and the rest of Africa have no idea what their in for. Whitey at his worst is an amateur compared to China.
Those pro union communist Chinese managers certainly know how to negotiate with workers, especially black ones.
Hard to understand why they are so quiet.
I remember watching a documentary about the farming confiscations, and the black guy they talked with ranted about how they are brothers with the Chinamen or something like that and I thought “Does this idiot not understand that the Chinese will be the first ones to kill him?”
I love this. Funniest double entendre I’ve ever heard.
Psychologically, I agree with you. Practically, I wonder, aren't the Chinese out of practice in colonial oppression (excepting Tibet)? Hasn't their institutional memory of subjugation faded somewhat over the intervening generations?
The Africans need unions to protect them!
The Lefty media goes after easy targets. If the media went over there and protested, the Chinese would shoot them too. The Chinese government does not back down to reporters and on a darker note, nothing is going to be allowed to stop Chinese expansion into Africa.
The first words out of Ali's mouth were "Thank God my Granddaddy got on that slave ship!"
Eh, it wasn’t whitey, the native Zambians went on pogroms against the subcontinental Indians who prior to this had control of the Zambian mining extraction industrial complex.
I expect the same Zambian factions to rise up and burn out Chinese businesses in the cities and generally start the pogroms again.
The Chinese are much worse than the Indians who had been in place... the Indians had lived in Zambia since the British first arrived, many had only tenuous connections to India and Pakistan, Zambia was truly their home country.
Meanwhile, the Chinese have absolutely no interest in settling down in Zambia... they are there for a quick buck and from the first day are planning their exit strategy.
Keep in mind, for the last three decades on a yearly basis... Chinese managers in China kill more Chinese coal miners than all other coal mine operations in the world. The racial supremacy chip on the shoulder against Zambians must make it even more brutal than this shooting implies.
