This is what happens when you nominate a guy that the people just got done firing. Bass is a wealthy, well-connected Country Club Republican who was part of the problem and never gave the slightest hint that he could spell "solution" when he was in Congress.

Oh, yes, if I lived in NH-2 I would vote for him, and if you live there I hope you vote for him. But if the answer is "Charlie Bass", it's a really dumb question.

And I bet NH-2 isn't the only district in the nation that is like this.

We can thank Bob Giuda for taking votes away from Jennifer Horn and giving us the gift of Chalie Bass and, therefore, Annie Kuster. What a revolting turn of events.

I guess that’s essentially a race between two incumbents...I would have said that 43 percent was a bad sign even though she was ahead, but in this case who knows...

At this stage in the game those numbers look strange.

I predicted this would happen. The NH GOP is going to continue shooting themselves in the foot until reformers take over the party whose goal is not to create a monarchy for politcians kids to find jobs. They were trying to drag Senator Sununu out of retirement too after Mr. Electable got his butt kicked by Jeanne Shaheen. If Judd Gregg weren't retiring, they'd be running him again, too.

They may make some modest gains this year thanks to the GOP surge at the national level (like how the clueless Lee Daniels ended up as Illinois House Speaker in 1994 thanks entirely to the national GOP surge's coattails), but any gains will be short lived as long as John "Souter will be a home run for conservatives" Sununu Sr. is running the state GOP.

The old guard just can't accept the fact voters are fed up with them and that's why the RATs took over the state in the first place.

Since Giuda is seeking the Congressional seat in the Manchester-based 1st District of New Hampshire, and Bass (concededly a spineless "moderate" wimp pretender to the name Republican) is running in the 2nd District (mostly rural rest of the state), who is Jennifer Horn and how is Giuda taking voted from her and how does that give us Charlie Bass and therefore Annie Kuster? You probably can tie all that together but many of us outside of New Hampshire will not understand at least the reference to Jennifer Horn whoever she may be.

I am not disrespecting you but rather need more explanation to understand your post.

Try to meet Jim Noble as to NH-2. I think he lives in the Manchester District but he is a good guy on FR and can probably be a very knowledgeable source. How are Suzio and Markley doing in CT?

Giuda WAS a candidate in the NH-2 primary, who finished third after Bass (winner) and Horn (conservative, loser).

The candidate in NH-1 is Guinta, NOT Giuda. Guinta is the popular ex-Mayor of Manchester, running against incumbent Carol Shea-Porter, a/k/a Carol Che-Porter. I did not vote for Giunta in the primary, but, since Manchester is the biggest city in the district AND beating Che-Porter is of national importance, I'm voting for him, early and often.

Thanks for the kind words.

Tomaytoes, tomahtoes, potaytoes, potahtoes, Guinta, Giuda - let’s call the whole thing off.
Add Giuda’s votes to Jennifer Horn’s and Charlie Bass is out (where he should be). Jennifer wouldn’t even have needed all of them. If we get Kuster, I am holding that doofus Giuda responsible.

We are going to make more than “modest” gains here in NH. We will definitely take back the house and hopefully the senate.
But you are right about the Republican party here in NH. Our former Speaker (prior to ‘06) wants his job back. When I take my seat in Representatives Hall, it will not be he who gets my vote for Speaker but a new person. My father was a rep. for a few terms between 1959 and 1975 and the problem was the same back then. Favors bought and sold. He would come home so frustrated he once swore he would never go back, but he did. There were people who would sell their soul for a better place to park. And I imagine there still are.

Thanks for the correction and for your kind words.

Do you think Ovide LaMontaigne could be nominated and defeat Jean Shaheen when she is next up? How do you think the GOP will do against Governor Lynch this year?

NH is the least socially-conservative state in the nation - but not in the usual way.

The dominant social ethos is “mind your own business”.

Ovide got identified during his run for Governor as someone who wanted to mind everybody’s business.

I don’t believe he could win a statewide race.

Who would you like to see nominated who might defeat Shaheen in New Hampshire?

No NH Governor has won a 4th term in modern times. The rat Lynch is pushing his luck.

The real tragic waste is all the talented rising stars not being promoted by the state party. The NH General Court is the largest state legislature in the nation and I believe the third largest in the world. The New Hampshire House of Representatives has 400 members alone, and that's just the lower house. But we never see the party leaders work to recruit any of people for higher office and groom them for tough races. Nope. They're told to take a back seat for the pampered politician's kids whose main qualification for federal office was "my daddy was Governor". Lisa Murkowski syndrome on steroids all over NH. It's disgusting.

All of that is why I will be voting for Bill O’Brien for Speaker of the House. I liked what I heard when I listened to him at the convention.
