FIRST LADY CAMPAIGNED INSIDE POLLING PLACE
Thu Oct 14 2010 16:19:25 ET
First lady Michelle Obama appears to have violated
Illinois law -- when she engaged in political discussion at a polling place!
The drama began after Mrs. Obama stopped off at the
Martin Luther King Center on the south side of Chicago to cast an early vote.
After finishing at the machine, Obama went back to the desk and handed in her voting key.
She let voters including electrician Dennis Campbell, 56, take some photos.
"She was telling me how important it was to vote to keep her husband's agenda going," Campbell said.
According to the pool reporter at the scene, the conversation took place IN the voting center not far from the booths.
Illinois state law -- Sec. 17-29 (a) -- states: "No judge of election, pollwatcher, or other person shall, at any primary or election, do any electioneering or soliciting of votes or engage in any political discussion within any polling place, within 100 feet of any polling place."
A top Ilinois State Board of Elections official tells the DRUDGE REPORT how Mrs. Obama may have simply been ignorant of the law and thus violated it unintentionally.
"You kind of have to drop the standard for the first lady, right?" the official explained late Thursday. "I mean, she's prety well liked and probably doesn't know what she's doing."
WHITE HOUSE DEFENDS ELECTIONEERING
When questioned about the brazen nature of Mrs. Obama's campaigning, press secretary Robert Gibbs defended the action.
"I don't think it would be much to imagine, the First Lady might support her husband's agenda," Gibbs smiled.
Developing...
Wow. Despicable.
is this big?
So what is the penalty for this?
Last I checked this is against the law!!!
Isn’t it against the law to do electioneering inside a polling place? Isn’t that why they keep political partisans a certain distance away? Except for black panther dudes of course, they are allowed to get in people’s faces. But otherwise, I thought the law was that campaigning had to stay a certain distance away.
Maybe Michelle is an exception to the law, along with those black panther dudes.
The boob belt made her do it.
Um yes, but it won’t be to the leftist or Obama and his admin.
Isn’t that illegal? What’s wrong with these people?
Let’s see if she gets treated like Laura Bush would have been treated if she DARED to do such a thing.
This is small potatoes—sheesh, her husband isn’t even eligible to be Prez and he’s gotten away with that.
Law? Chicago? Depends on who the law is, don’t it.
One word..."Chicago".
And here I thought this woman had held a JD at one point, and that her ‘husband’ had taught a class about voting rights.
What if SHE DOESN’T KNOW the illegality she’s committed? Let alone the impropriety.
First lady Dredd. “I am the law”
It seems to me that this will be a big “to do” about nothing. They aren’t voting today in Chicago are they? And, I believe the stipulation is that candidates are the only ones prohibited from campaigning within a certain distance from the polls.
I believe this practice is permitted when one is a member of certain organizations, among them the Black Pampers and the Black Pimpers.
Most likely in her case the latter.
She wishes she was that small.
One jump suit in petite please.
Sorry, only Obama size available.
Another vacation in Spain.
