Now two families including the Vidovics are suing the school district, claiming their children were bullied to death and the school did nothing to stop it. The lawsuits come after a national spate of high-profile suicides by gay teens and others, and during a time of national soul-searching about what can be done to stop it.
If there has been soul-searching among the bullies in Mentor a pleasant beachfront community that was voted one of the "100 Best Places to Live" by CNN and Money magazine this year Sladjana's family saw too little of it at her wake in October 2008.

Notice they are suing local taxpayers who may not be guilty, the guilty will not be punished or anything.
How awful...
Those poor children...
I know many here claim not to watch TV. BUT, has anyone watch this past season of Big Brother, the on going season of Survivor. This is especially bad. One woman has a prosthesis, and is being brutally harrassed by another contestant. The numerous shows that protray Bullying as “just clean fun” or “part of the game” is rather disgusting.
Does anyone find that maybe just maybe these young people are watching these shows and getting the idea that bullying is perfectly acceptable. What kind of Producers do these shows hire that stand by while this bullying goes on?
Both of the above mentioned shows dangle money, and no way out other than to quit.
The entertainment community needs to take a close look at some of the fare they are offering, and set limits on the behavour of the participants.
Even Amazing Race is getting hard to watch, the abuse leveled at the partners in the race would be unacceptable in society. (”what would you do?, with John Quinnones, I guess proves that there are some in our society that accept this bullying.)
I raise the question again...
5 or 6 deaths through ONE school?
There is more than just bullying go on...
The incident rate is just simply way too high is anyone from law enforcement looking at all the cases as a whole?
Remember a few years ago when there was a rash of shark attacks? Turns out that there were no more attacks than in normal years, the media were just making a big deal out of it.
I suspect that bullying has been going on forever, and kids have responded poorly to the bullying forever, but the the media simply have an agenda to push.
These are sad anecdotes, but I doubt there’s a “trend” that needs to be urgently addressed.
We’ve gone from Columbine to Boston and now this.
The schools choose to ignore issues of honor and integrity while focused on their political agenda rather than the students.
Horrific waste of young lives with seemingly no remorse from the bullies or their parents.
Terrible, just terrible, Dave, and right here!
Agree with your comments and I’ll add on, why are folks looking for someone else to blame the problem on?
"They were laughing at the way she looked," Suzana says, crying. "Even though she died.""
The more I see of this society,The More I like Heinlein's Idea's a la Starship Troopers
Public whipping of these creatures has some very good merits
I would be willing to bet that if school prayer were still allowed, things wouldn’t be as bad at that school.
I’d also like to know what kind of brainwashing is done there. Thomas Sowell pointed out, and published, the fact that before the shooting, Columbine made a habit of taking kids to a morgue to view bodies as part of “death education” curriculum.
...and it goes on and on.
If you see the way the media treats Palin and O’Donnell, you see the root of the problem. Being mean is acceptable these days.
Mentor has a population of about 52,000 and the high school is about 2,400 kids. Big school.
It has and they do.
These are sad anecdotes, but I doubt theres a trend that needs to be urgently addressed.
There is no new "trend," only the same old thing that has gone on forever. But it still must be addressed!
It's a crying shame that bullying has gone on so long and been accepted as a "normal part of life." Something should have been done long before the libs came along to make use of it.
I'm glad I wasn't there. Otherwise, I would have been charged with multiple murders.
There is a great organization started by Peter Yarrow of Peter, Paul, and Mary. It’s called Operation Respect. He sang a song “Don’t Laugh at Me” about bullying. It seems to be a positive organization. We saw Peter last night at the Woodsong Old Fashion Radio Hour. It was a good time, and he was great.
Yes, it must be addressed. Our solution: personal responsibility, not federal involvement.
I didn't say one word about federal involvement.
Bullying goes on because the faculties and staffs of schools do not care. To them it's just a part of growing up, just like measles.
Ever seen Stephen King's It!? That's what it's like. A monster is attacking the people's children and they don't care.
