I work not too far from the Orlando neighborhood, and it’s definitely undesirable, but I have a hard time believing that some of the Miami neighborhoods are better.
All kiddin’ aside, what is wrong with our society that such high casualty rates were OK? It must be safer to be in a shooting war than be in some of these ‘hoods. Not right.
MLK Blvd., MLK Ave., MLK Parkway, etc., have a distressing commonality in that invariably they are in a bad part of town.
So when you travel, you always know where to stay away from.

“Guess Atlanta is a complete and total hell hole. Gee, I wonder why. Also interesting: the most dangerous DC neighborhood is adjacent to the Navy Yard, where they are spending billions to create outdoor spaces, as well as the Nationals stadium. I am surprised, I thought it would be the Trinidad neighborhood and points northeast.”
Does Anacostia count in the Navy Yard stats? BTW, don’t miss your exit to the Navy Yard, the next one is five points in Anacostia.
Maybe Detroit has been depopulated to the point that the really bad neighborhoods have dissolved.
Kind of like Youngstown.
“I live in Long Beach and have been to Compton, Watts, South Central and Inglewood. They are not nearly as scary as Newark or The South Bronx.”
CA is very disorienting. I worked in east LA and would drive through neighborhoods that looked like the Brady Bunch housing. I was driving through the Bloods and Crips territory. Just don’t find yourself there after sunset. Back east, you know immediately when you are in the wrong part of town 24/7.
I think it is Chris Roch that has in his routine "MLK Boulevard?? RUN!! get out of there!"
"woo hoo, dat means I can go play in Camden or Trenton, or even Newark.....??????????...snot!
Good question. It seems that they've completely forgotten about LA, San Francisco, New York, Miami, and dozens of other cities. I'm not saying that these are not bad neighborhoods - 55th and Scovall in Cleveland is well known to locals, as are many other neighborhoods.
Chicago, huh? Surprise. And last week they gained one more crook.
It’d be interesting if they did a study on these neighborhoods to see how many voted for Obama, and how many voted for McCain.
Did you notice that all these neighborhoods rank high on being “hip and trendy.”
So it seems high crime goes hand and hand with hip and trendy.
I’ll just leave it at that.
Have they cleaned up E St. Louis?
Just out of curiosity, how many of these are WHITE, MIDDLE CLASS neighborhoods??
I'd like to see a national map showing the crime rate superimposed over the voting tendencies of the area. I'd bet that there's an almost 1:1 correlation between "democratism" and high crime.
That area of Ft. Worth, TX has been bad for decades. Back in the 80’s I had to go in there to research some HUD homes. Went armed, found stolen cars hidden in garages, drug houses, you name it.
Baltimore’s not on here? Come on.
