POLL: HICKENLOOPER 43%, TANCREDO 35%, MAES 16%
The Denver Daily News ^ | October 5, 2010 | Denver Daily News staff report

POLL: HICKENLOOPER 43%, TANCREDO 35%, MAES 16%: The Colorado governor’s race is increasingly looking like a contest between Democrat John Hickenlooper and independent Tom Tancredo, according to Rasmussen. The latest Rasmussen Reports telephone survey of Likely Colorado voters shows Hickenlopper still ahead with 43-percent support, but Tancredo now earns 35 percent of the vote, his best showing so far. Republican candidate Dan Maes trails with 16 percent. One percent like another candidate in the race, and five percent are undecided. The survey of 750 Likely Voters in Colorado was conducted on Oct. 3.

TEA PARTY LEADERSHIP ENDORSES TANCREDO: More than 30 Tea Party leaders and grassroots activists from across Colorado yesterday announced their endorsement of third-party gubernatorial candidate Tom Tancredo, adding their names to a rapidly growing list of conservatives supporting the former Republican Congressman. “The prospect of having Mayor John Hickenlooper win the governorship of the State of Colorado is unacceptable to us,” said a statement from Bob Marshall, secretary of Hear Us Now! “Colorado citizens need assurance that we are doing the best we can to support a solid and winning conservative candidate to represent us in the Colorado State Capitol. Based on polling trends and the direction that the governor’s race has taken over the course of the last several weeks, we firmly believe that candidate Tom Tancredo represents Colorado’s best choice in this race. We strongly urge you to add your support to ours Đ for the sake of Colorado.”

As a long time critic of Tom Tancredo I totally believe Maes needs to drop out.

Pollster stated on the radio news that if Hickenlooper gets around 40%, his camp is going to start getting a little nervous.

Hickenlooper is very lucky at the moment that the Repubs are splitting their votes. It will likely not stay that way.

Is there any chance that Maes will drop out? Any Colorado Freepers out there with any insight into the possibility of Tancredo getting GOP support also?

No, unlike Dede this guy Maes won a fair Republican primary. Nor has he endorsed the Democrat even if staying in helps the Democrat. The two aren’t similiar.

I can’t bring myself to ask the guy to drop out. Yeah, maybe some people screwed up by making this guy their cause and voting him to victory in the primary but the guy the GOP wanted was a known disappointment. It annoys me to engage in helping the GOP take out a candidate they never wanted. I won’t do it.

And I’m not that fond of Tancredo these days so it’s beyond annoying he’s the better alternative at this point. But if in Colorado I’d vote and support him because the Gubanatorial races are important this year for re-districting. I think I’d rather people just collectively make the decision to get behind Tancredo as the best of the options available without forcing Maes out of the race. Both sides, Tea Party and GOP, should have Maes stand as a candidate to teach a lesson about being more discerning with their choices next time.

Any chance Maes can be convinced to drop out? What’s his “price”; shall we start a “support Maes to leave fund”??

I think Tancredo is a total opportunist. He runs in front of a camera every chance he gets. That said, he’s the lesser of 3 evils, so I’m voting for him.

That’s not what I’m hearing on the afternoon radio. It looks like Tancredo is within striking distance. Listen in to 630 KHOW:

Caplis and Silverman are talking about this this afternoon. Even some Hispanics are breaking for Tancredo.

A local host and some others have speculated that Maes is making his living doing this right now so he’s going to ride it to the end as he doesn’t have any better options at this point.

I wish this idiot Maes would drop out and endorse Tom Tancredo for the sake of Colorado and the Republican party. He's lost too much support to do anything except get Hickenlooper elected. What does he think he gains by staying in this race? I get so sick of selfish politicians who are too bitter to drop out even when they know they have absolutely no chance. He obviously has political views closer to Tancredo’s, but he's going to help out Hickenlooper because he's a bitter piece of crap. He may have won the Republican primary, but he has lost most of that support to Tancredo because of his lies. Just drop it Maes and pretend to have some dignity.

I couldn’t agree more. This is Colorado’s perfect opportunity to get back on track, but that dumb “bleep” is going to probably louse it up. Most of the rest of the country will hopefully be celebrating come November, but Maes will do his darndest to make sure Colorado is left behind.
