A 12-year-old boy who neighbors describe as a "little monster" was shot by a woman apparently upset at the boy and others for throwing bricks at her Southeast Side home Tuesday evening.
The shooting happened about 5:25 p.m. near East 76th Street and South Coles Avenue and sent a juvenile to University of Comer Children's Hospital in serious to critical condition, Fire Media Affairs spokesman Richard Rosado said.
A woman believed to be in her late 60s or early 70s fired the shot. She remained in police custody Tuesday night but police said she may not be charged because she may have fired shots in self-defense.
She told police the injured boy and others had thrown bricks at her house. She chased the boys and fired shots after the children would not put the bricks down, a police source said.
Each child had a brick in their hands, but the boy shot is believed to have been the only one who succeeded in breaking a window at the residence, police said.
Neighbors said the boy is a known troublemaker and the head of a small neighborhood gang.
"This little boy started a fire in her grill, burned out her garbage can .. he was a little terror," said neighbor Hilda Brunt. "This has been going on for weeks."
At least one of the boys is telling a different story.
"One minute I'm playing basketball with my friend, the next minute I see him with a bloody arm," said 15-year-old Jordan Heard.
Calumet Area detectives are investigating.
>> Where do they learn to throw bricks & rocks?
At the Amish community center maybe?
laid out in a crack house no doubt...
The parent is probably another Great Society POS.
WTF is wrong with law enforcement these days? Why aren't they prosecuting the actual criminal?
Yes, that kid definitely should have been shot 3 times like that.
Part of just a “small” neighborhood gang..... Not to worry, folks, nothing to see here, it was just a “small” gang.
Let her go.
The kid was an MIT — a murderer in training. This won’t be the last time he’s in the news.
Deuteronomy 21
18 If a man has a stubborn and rebellious son who does not obey his father and mother and will not listen to them when they discipline him, 19 his father and mother shall take hold of him and bring him to the elders at the gate of his town. 20 They shall say to the elders, “This son of ours is stubborn and rebellious. He will not obey us. He is a profligate and a drunkard.” 21 Then all the men of his town shall stone him to death. You must purge the evil from among you. All Israel will hear of it and be afraid.
Maybe he was a Palestinian. They learn to throw rocks and then become suicide bombers from day one.
I'm not 70 yet, but I'll guarantee you that I can't physically chase anyone. I'd be good for maybe three or four steps then I'd have to stop and get my breath.
My "I Believe" button is not working on this one.
No pictures I can guess.
Exterminate them all before they grow up and add to the burden on society.
Exactly! You read my mind!
This kid just needed to be injured. In most other cases, “two to the torso one to the head” wastes two bullets.
I send a bullet to do my chasing!!
At my age I need to use 'em up!
A woman believed to be in her late 60s or early 70s is not going to run down a 12 year old kid. There’s no way she was chasing him.
In my city intentionally throwing an object through a window is a serious crime.
