We are at war. We are at war with an enemy as savage, as voracious, as heartless as the Nazis but one wouldnt know it from our behavior.
During WWII we didnt refer to storm troopers as freedom fighters. We didnt call the Gestapo, militants. We didnt see the attacks on our Merchant Marine as acts by rogue sailors. We did not justify the Nazis rise to power as our fault. We did not grovel before the Nazis, thumping our hearts and confessing to abusing and mistreating and humiliating the German people. We did not apologize for Dresden, nor for The Battle of the Bulge, nor for El Alamein, nor for D-Day.
Evil ultimate, irreconcilable, evil threatened us and Roosevelt and Churchill had moral clarity and an exquisite understanding of what was at stake.
In WWII we won because we got it. We understood who the enemy was and we knew that the end had to be unconditional and absolute. We did not stumble around worrying about offending the Nazis. We did not measure every word so as not to upset our foe. We built planes and tanks and battleships and went to war to win
.. to rid the world of malevolence.

More perpexling and vexing is the fact some some Jews openly condemn Israels defense of their own country against an onslaught and unrelenting attacks (and go so far as to parrot the false accusation of Israel being "Occupiers" as well as their supporting the "So-Called" Palestinians at the expense of Isreal's security) as Israel fights for its very survival, a Jewish voice (a Rabbi no less) of reason and sanity emerges and addresses the barbaric, evil (Islam) which threatens not only Israel and the US, but the entire world.
Though Rabbi Lewis is an admitted lib (who voted against Bush and is a proud, card-carrying member of the ACLU) he is first and foremost a wise person; a student of history and Patriot, who in this instance sees with moral clarity and perceives this threat in terms usually reserved for us Cons (Black and White, Good vs Evil, etc) as opposed to the usual Grey perspective most libs attribute to all issues.
His arguments are succinct and though he does relate to this threat through the prism of his Jewish faith and heritage, his opinions are secular in nature as they apply to people of all faiths, or no faiths.
I especially appreciate his take on Moderate Muslims and their responsibility of the spread of this vile, despicable conduct (Terrorism) in the name of their Religion of Peace through their complacency and silence.
His arguments and analogies are so compelling and prescient that we should copy them and use them when debating libs who excuse and defend Islam as well as repeating his clarion call of vigilance and warning to all, to take this threat seriously less the Free World succumb to this greatest threat to mankind, ever!
Anyone spot the clinker here? The rabbi needs a history lesson.
This Rabbi gets it. Unfotunately, only a few of our countryment do—and that includes Jews. The analogy here is an apt one. If we had fought WWII like we are fighting the Global War on Terror (which we don’t even call it anymore), we would have lost. I think a big part of our attitude is the feeling that Islam can’t win. The fact is that it can—and a big part of the strategy is to use our own laws and culture against us.
I was struck by one sentance you wrote:
“Though Rabbi Lewis is an admitted lib (who voted against Bush and is a proud, card-carrying member of the ACLU) he is first and foremost a wise person;..”
What a contradiction.
When reading the article at the link (FrontPage is one of my bookmarked favorites. It should be everone’s.)I noted the fact the Rabbi warns against the danger, yet belongs to the poltical party and a legal group dedicated to undermining the very essence of the fabric of America. He is, in effect, selling lighter fluid and matches to crazy people, then warning the mob is setting the world on fire.
One of the oddest things is how intelligent people cannot be introspective. What the heck is he thinking?
I too was shocked at the inclusion of McCartyism in his pantheon of horrors.
And doesn’t a jab at Communist Triumphalism just paper over its hundred million murdered souls?
That pandering to failed tradition thoughts sorely weakens his accusation of the responsibility due of acts of yawning ommission
Yeah, I was sold on the article until that....
Male Bovine Fecal Effluvia, Rabbi.
This guy also admits to being a card carrying ACLU member and a registered Democrat.
A large portion of his sermon is good and should be read, but there are some fatal flaws in it.
Anyone spot the clinker here? The rabbi needs a history lesson.
Nope! Unlesss you are referring to "Communist Trimphalism," which in essence, I guess you could argue it was, considering how much of its influence is still being felt throughout the world as well as its Socialist/Marxist philosophy being defended (and in some respects practiced even by our own President) by the Far Left here in the US?
The evil empire may be dead, but Communism is alive and well and not only in Cuba, China, Vietnam and No. Korea, but beats in the hearts of all good Far Left Moonbats.
We also did not have 5-6 decades of the idiot box in the corner of every living room spewing out it's Godlessness practically 24/7
Though Rabbi Lewis is an admitted lib (who voted against Bush and is a proud, card-carrying member of the ACLU) he is first and foremost a wise person;..
What a contradiction.
How is that a contradiction?
Though misguided in his obvious Liberal philosophy, he is smart enough ("wise") in realizing the threat that Islam poses and willing to admit this which is opposite of what those of his Leftist bent normally are willing to admit or advance.
Wise: "Having the power of discerning and judging properly as to what is true or right
One can be naive, misguided, mistaken in some areas and correct in others as is the case with the Rabbi's take on history and the real threat of Radical Islam.
I guess the point I'm trying to make and what is surprising if you will, is that though an obvious Lib, the good Rabbi is first and foremost a Patriot who recognizes (and is willing to articulate) the danger Islam poses, not only to Israel and Jews, but to all of mankind.
It's unfortunate that most Libs here in the US, do not take this threat seriously because they are so steeped and blinded by Policital Correctness/Multiculturalism or more likely, dislike and distrust their own country to the point of supporting our sworn enenmy, you know the old Arab saw: "The eneny of my enemy is my friend?"

Gee, I guess I should have worn my flame retardant underwear before posting this article
I didn't realize there were so many "purist" among our Freepers who regardless of the cogent and critical analysis of this major threat we face, would take exception to this dissertation/sermon based SOLELY, on the person's ideology.
I thought this coming from a Liberal, Jewish Rabbi would be something to praise and support, but I guess his lapse in judgement over his opinion on allowing the Mosque to be built on legal grounds while opposing it on moral grounds as well as his "sin" of being a Demo-Rat and ACLU member, negates his entire thesis.
WOW!
And I thought I was an Extremist, Conservative!!!!
The Rabbi might “get it” but he did not vocalize “it”—IMO there is a fundamental flaw in ISLAM -the system itself seems flawed. And I am reminded of the Torah that speaks of the sword of the seed of Ishmael being against everybody — and
the sword of everybody being against Ishmael.(I word it poorly
But I agree with the Rabbi we are at war.A war that has seen this putsch begin with the coup in Iran.IMO Imam Puking Dog Rauf is a Sufi-and a dangerous man because so few see him as any threat. Yet too many submit to his intent.Believing the LIE -”it can’t happen here.”Guns up-and eyes open.
And so should McCarthyism be alive -- and it is, in every person who supported Ronald Reagan and his triumph over the Soviets.
Reagan, as president of the Screen Actors' Guild, fought the Communists' "intellectual" apologists -- would real intellectuals shill for the political movement that gave the world show trials and the killing fields of Cambodia, and a body count exceeding 100,000,000? -- and he fought their masters in Moscow as President of the United States, and yes, he was a McCarthyite, who stood up to the moral and intellectual bullying of the Dalton Trumbo types. They were the Iscariots of American freedom, and Reagan cast them into the outer darkness where they belonged.
I don’t see how you miss the contradiction. By the definition you posted he isn’t wise by belonging to a group (Democrats) that denies there is a war on terror, refuses to fight the war on terror, and when engaged in an actual war with the terrorists do everything in their power to cripple that fight (vote against surge, set timetables for withdrawal, politicize the war instead of trying to win, avoiding winning at all costs, etc.).
Plus, the Rabbi then proudly belongs to a legal group that aids terrorists and seeks through lawfare to hinder the fight against the very people he proclaims are coming (Close Gitmo, attempt to shut down military tribunals).
How does that fit the definition: “Wise: Having the power of discerning and judging properly as to what is true or right.”
My original post stands. He is smart enough. He can’t say “I didn’t know.” anymore than his example of the Germans in his article. You say he recognizes the danger and then can’t see the contradiction to belonging to appeasers and traitors that aid the danger. You have a different idea of wisdom then either I or the definition state.
Unfortunately, it is almost impossible for most Jews to give up the communitarian dream that they, very mistakenly, believe is (still) the guiding political philosophy of the Democrat party. For many Jews, the Democrat party is still the party of FDR, Truman and Kennedy. Why is this so? Because Jews want to believe that most people love life and are basically good; it is just the cruelty of fortune, the impersonal marketplace and evil men that cause misery. It is a delusion that has almost caused the Jews to be wiped from the face of the Earth. But it has such a powerful hold on the Jewish mind, that giving it up would be to deny their heritage. Even this rabbi cannot bring himself to condemn Islam as the totalitarian belief system it is.
This man has a thin veneer of wisdom, but when he mentions good (moderate) muslims, I get sick.
Moderate muslims are like the moderate Germans and the moderate Japanese in the pre-war and WW2 era. They went with the herd, ultimately, and the herd went where the immoderate led them.
And this time, the herd won’t need a Luftwaffe, or a plague of U-boats, or a gestapo. They number over 1.5 billion. Their birth rates are their overwhelming advantage.
Of course, our moral, spiritual and intellectual prostration doesn’t help things either.
Israel is the laboratory the test market. Every death, every explosion, every grisly encounter is not a random, bloody orgy. It is a calculated, strategic probe into the heart, guts and soul of the West.
They didn't know how. They had not practiced. They had an instruction to do so, but their rabbis were too habituated not to rock the Talmudic boat to study Exodus 23:10-11 long enough to understand its obvious meaning (and the Talmud Yerushalmi would have been of no help there, as reality reared its ugly head at the moment of the return from Babylon). To this day our translations reflect this historic misinterpretation of the Sabbath for the Land and as a direct result, to this day we face exactly the same peril.
