It appears that the terrible ratings finally caught up with CNN honcho Jon Klein. Brian Stelter at the NY Times reports that the beleagured president of CNN is out of his current position, to be replaced by Ken Jautz, who is currently heading up HLN. CNN’s Worldwide Chief sent a memo to CNN’s staff this morning indicating that Klein was leaving with “our respect and friendship” without specifying the reason why he was out, though certainly CNN’s declining ratings were at issue. The story first broke on FTVlive.com, then news quickly filtered through the usual outlets.
Klein took over as president of CNN six years ago, a period that coincided with a steady and significant decline in ratings at the cable news network. In March of this year, this reporter suggested that CNN’s ratings tailspin made Klein vulnerable, though at the time, Walton voiced his support.
Walton’s memo to the CNN staff reads below:

The entire sorry bunch at CNN will have to be axed to improve ratings. Who can watch the tripe dished out by Wolf Blitzer and the dolt, Rick Sanchez?
Just as long as they never realize that if they want better ratings, it’s *Behar* and then *Sanchez* who should be among the first to go.

Just imagine the millions and news program would make researching who the heck Obama is, how he got into Harvard, what grades he made, ect, ect, ect. Pulitzer just lying their waiting for someone to grab it... but their partisanship keeps them blind.
40% of Americans are conservative 40% are moderates and 20% are liberals. Moderates are not going to watch a cable news channel. Why fight MSNBC, the networks and PBS for a 20% market share.
FNC does not do well because it's good. Many nights BORe and Hannity are unwatchable. Conservatives watch Fox News because there's nowhere else to go.
But watch; once again ideology will triumph over profitability.

I guess the “no straight white male anchors” thing didn’t work out for Klein. Every time I turned it on, it seemed like an affirmative action newscast.
