Sen. Jim DeMint argued for a devolution of power out of Washington, saying Sunday that the fact is, education probably would work a lot better without the Department of Education.
The South Carolina Republican had been asked on CNNs State of the Union whether candidates whom he and the tea party movement have endorsed are too far out of the political mainstream. When host Candy Crowley gave Sharron Angles call to abolish the Education Department as an example, DeMint said, Shes very bold to say it. Angle is the GOP candidate challenging Majority Leader Harry Reid (D) for his Senate seat in Nevada.
I would support a devolution of power out of Washington for education, health care, transportation, and Ive introduced a lot of legislation for that, too, DeMint added, saying the power should go to the states. And you can do it in a common-sense, reasonable way that doesnt disrupt any of the activities that we support.
Yep, all that land “administered” the US Forest Service and the Bureau of Land Management should become state lands and these two inefficient, wasteful organizations should dissapear.
I’ve been advocating that for a while now. Of course, as this would be in line with the constitution, liberals will be rabidly against it.
And send the EPA, HUD, and Homeland Security along with it. We had plenty enough liberty-choking, liberal-bureaucrat-job-creation hideouts before they were created.
Excellent! States must balance their budgets. They cannot print money. If they cannot afford a service then move it in the private sector or get rid of it. If services are moved to the states the people will decide on whether they want to pay taxes for them.
The federal government has stepped waaaay over their limit of power!
I have 3 adult daughters, 8 grand-kids, all of them 4 years old and younger. Everyone of the grand-babies, and future, will be homeschooling kids. We are ready for prison. You betcha, bring it on.
I’m really starting to love Demint!
It is TIME to DownSize DC!
Close Entire Departments. (Education, EPA, etc)
Force Congress and Senate to telecommute most of the year from their home district under the thumb of the electorate and away from the lobbyists.
Can you imagine the reduction in cost of the government? And it would change the center-of-gravity of the Federal Government.
I remember back in the Jimmy Carter years, it seems like federal control was the “in thing”. I remember when I was in as late as 3rd grade, we started school after Labor day and then 4th grade, we started at the end of August and then four years later, we started Aug 20 ! This was in 1980 !
> America’s decline in public education began with the advent of the US Department of Education.
I am going to start a list of “TRUE BELIEVERS”, and Demint will be the first one on that list!
I think I am in love.
As much as I like Mrs. Palin, DeMint is starting to look like just as good an option and if either runs, they get my vote.
My problem now is, I don't favor either over the other at this point.
Does he support repealing the 17th amendment?
“...I would support a devolution of power out of Washington...
DeMint added, saying the power should go to the states...”

Oh, hell yeah!
“...Does he support repealing the 17th amendment?...”

I know I do.
DOD, State (completely purged of the marxists and scaled way down), and a handful of others that are essential. The rest should devolve to states, privatized, or done away with.
You want universal health care? Fine, do it in california, new york, but not on the federal level
