UK: What do you think made you become a heterosexual? Just one of questions in "Diversity" course
The Daily Mail (U.K.) ^ | September 19, 2010 | Chris Hastings

Posted on 09/19/2010 12:54:50 AM PDT by Stoat

Town Hall bosses are asking staff to take part in a 'heterosexuality quiz' so they can gain a greater understanding of what it is like to be gay.

The quiz, devised by managers at Buckinghamshire County Council, is part of an equality and diversity course called 'Respecting Sexuality'.

Questions, which are described as a 'twist' on those routinely asked of homosexuals, include 'What do you think caused your heterosexuality?', 'Is it possible your heterosexuality stems from a neurotic fear of others of the same sex?', and 'If you've never slept with a person of the same sex, how do you know you wouldn't prefer it?'

(edit)

The Buckinghamshire council course is just one of a series of publicly funded equality and diversity sessions uncovered in a series of Freedom of Information requests by The Mail on Sunday.

Cardiff, Slough and Cheshire West and Cheshire councils have also incorporated quizzes in their sessions. In Slough, employees ask colleagues questions from a specially prepared grid such as 'Can you sing a few lines from a Supremes song?' and 'Do you read The Guardian?'

Staff at Cardiff City Council are challenged to name the inventor of the 'great British classic car the Mini', and to identify the symbol used to celebrate the Chinese New Year.

(edit)

'To see councils wasting money on such a ludicrous, politically-correct exercise in that environment is disgusting. 'Ensuring that councils don't discriminate doesn't require such insane attempts at a superficial understanding of different communities.'

Again you seem to believe that God will do the same thing to cities with unrepentant people. I don’t. God is God and does things His way.

So God isn't big on consistency?

"They were not yes or no questions."

But it's so very simple.

Have you or have you not stopped beating your wife yet?

Yes or no?

But you're positive God nuked Sodom and Gomorrah because of all the homos though, right?

It wasn't their only sin but certainly the one that is most noted.

Genesis 13; 13

Now the men of Sodom were wicked and were sinning greatly against the LORD.

Genesis 19

1 The two angels arrived at Sodom in the evening, and Lot was sitting in the gateway of the city. When he saw them, he got up to meet them and bowed down with his face to the ground. 2 "My lords," he said, "please turn aside to your servant's house. You can wash your feet and spend the night and then go on your way early in the morning."
"No," they answered, "we will spend the night in the square."

3 But he insisted so strongly that they did go with him and entered his house. He prepared a meal for them, baking bread without yeast, and they ate. 4 Before they had gone to bed, all the men from every part of the city of Sodom—both young and old—surrounded the house. 5 They called to Lot, "Where are the men who came to you tonight? Bring them out to us so that we can have sex with them."

6 Lot went outside to meet them and shut the door behind him 7 and said, "No, my friends. Don't do this wicked thing. 8 Look, I have two daughters who have never slept with a man. Let me bring them out to you, and you can do what you like with them. But don't do anything to these men, for they have come under the protection of my roof."

9 "Get out of our way," they replied. And they said, "This fellow came here as an alien, and now he wants to play the judge! We'll treat you worse than them." They kept bringing pressure on Lot and moved forward to break down the door.

10 But the men inside reached out and pulled Lot back into the house and shut the door. 11 Then they struck the men who were at the door of the house, young and old, with blindness so that they could not find the door.

12 The two men said to Lot, "Do you have anyone else here—sons-in-law, sons or daughters, or anyone else in the city who belongs to you? Get them out of here, 13 because we are going to destroy this place. The outcry to the LORD against its people is so great that he has sent us to destroy it."

I am sure that a certain amount of that does go on. There are people who seek to use God to bolster their own idealogies and prejudices. The operative word there is "use". How can you "use" God? That is a fearful thing to try to do.

Having said that, I do think the bible makes it pretty clear that indulging in homosexual acts is unnatural and sinful. But then of course the bible makes it pretty clear that lying, cheating the poor, greed, envy, jealousy and numerous other things are unnatural and sinful too. Who am I to say which ones are worse than others?

My interpretation of that passage would be this: the violent nature of men and their hostility to strangers is at issue here, not the sexuality of this particular episode. Yes, the men from the town of Sodom gathered and said that they were going to plow the strangers in Lot's house whether he liked it or not, but I'd argue that was more of a form of domination or intimidation rather than a request for sexual gratification--after all, we're talking about forcible rape here, not a dinner and a movie.

And for this tale to be true, that would have to mean that every man in Sodom was both a rapist and a homosexual; I simply don't see how any form of human society could exist even for a week where every male in that society were a violent homosexual rapist.

And Lot certainly doesn't paint himself in glory here, either, by offering up his daughters to be raped instead of his house guests. Gee, thanks Dad. Thanks for pushing us onto your sword.

Perhaps the angels were bent on reaping havoc on a wicked city instead of a bunch of homos?

All sin is ugly in Gods eyes and He cannot look on any of it. Sin is sin and the penalty is death. God doesn't say lying isn't so bad so you only get your hand smacked. We're to repent all of it. Daily. And being human, we sin daily. Even without knowing it.

But that isn't what this thread is about. The subject of the thread is diversity training and learning to accept sin as normal.

So I am going to bow out of the thread unless asked a question about "diversity".

Homosexuality was part of their sin against God.

Have a nice day.

I dunno bout you but homosexual rape would seem a bit 'violent' and 'hostile to strangers'.

"And Lot certainly doesn't paint himself in glory here, either, by offering up his daughters to be raped instead of his house guests. Gee, thanks Dad. Thanks for pushing us onto your sword."

Or it may be a distinct contrast describing the hospitality etiquette of the time. IOW, so grievous would the sin be that a man would rather see his daughters raped than allow guests in his home to be homosexually raped.

"Perhaps the angels were bent on reaping havoc on a wicked city instead of a bunch of homos?"

Or maybe the story is accurate on it's face after all?

So in 193, God leveled Sodom and Gomorrah solely because of the homosexual angle, but now, it turns out that the homosexuality was just part of the package. Got it.

Thanks for the lesson! You have a great day yourself.

Of course it would be violent and hostile to strangers. Are you suggesting heterosexual rape would be a free trip to Disney World?

Or it may be a distinct contrast describing the hospitality etiquette of the time. IOW, so grievous would the sin be that a man would rather see his daughters raped than allow guests in his home to be homosexually raped.

. . . or perhaps this is a bit of a stretch . . .

"Let's see, homosexual rape is so bad that instead of allowing two complete strangers to be raped by every man-jack in town, I'd rather see everyone rape my own flesh and blood instead. Because heterosexual rape is far better than homosexual rape."

Patently ridiculous on its face. No human parent in the world, except for the most depraved ones, would make that trade.

Or maybe the story is accurate on it's face after all?

Okay, but to believe this, you'd have to believe that every single male in Sodom was, in fact, a homosexual rapist. You'd have to believe that a human settlement would have been able to be established, maintained, etc., with all the daily intercourse of human activity like trade, co-operation, etc., over time enough to maintain it to the degree where it was so memorable to human history as for us, in this modern age, to know about it now, where the entire male population of that settlement was both a homosexual and a rapist.

You believe this?

Not for a homosexual apologist. Even though sodomy got it's name from sodom.

Are you saying the Bible lied?

Genesis 19: 4-5

4 Before they had gone to bed, all the men from every part of the city of Sodom—both young and old—surrounded the house. 5 They called to Lot, "Where are the men who came to you tonight? Bring them out to us so that we can have sex with them."

You tell me. In 200, in a reply to another Freeper, you acknowledged that homosexuality was just part of their sin, and you did the same thing in 211.

You're the expert around here; I'm looking to you for direction.

I'm not apologizing for anything. If you don't like the 'mos, it's no skin off my back. Live and let live, as I say. To be honest, I'm just wondering why you, and others like you, have to couch your dislike for homos in terms of God. So you don't like homos---big deal. Why run for cover under God's hem? Aren't you secure enough in your dislike for homosexuality that you don't need to justify it? I don't particularly care for people who insist on driving crotch rockets, but I'm secure in that, so you won't see me trying to find a Bible quote to justify my feelings.
