Palin Opens Up About Possible 2012 Run, Says She's Willing to 'Give It a Shot'
Fox News ^ | September 17, 2010

Sarah Palin may be edging closer to a 2012 presidential run, telling Fox News "I would give it a shot" if the American people think she's "the one."

The former Alaska governor and 2008 Republican vice presidential nominee was in Des Moines, Iowa, Friday for the Reagan Dinner, a big GOP fundraiser in the heart of water-testing country for presidential candidates.

Palin has remained coy about her ambitions, but she elaborated a bit in an interview with Fox News, attaching several conditions to the possibility of a 2012 presidential run.

"If the American people were to be ready for someone who is willing to shake it up, and willing to get back to time-tested truths, and help lead our country towards a more prosperous and safe future and if they happen to think I was the one, if it were best for my family and for our country, of course I would give it a shot," she said.

"But I'm not saying that it's me. I know I can certainly make a difference without having a title. I'm having a good time doing exactly that right now."

Palin, a Fox News contributor and best-selling author since leaving the governor's mansion last year, has become one of the Tea Party movement's biggest allies. She's also thrown her clout around in the GOP primary season with a string of endorsements.

She said in February that she'd be "willing" to take on President Obama in two years, and White House Press Secretary Robert Gibbs said Friday he suspects she's testing the water.

The problem with Obama is only marginally one of competence. It is his Marxist ideology that is so destructive, and Palin is quite his opposite in that area. Presidents don’t have to be a genius in all areas of governance. They do have to have a good moral compass, the ability to delegate the hard stuff to good people, and good tactical instincts. Oh, and one more thing. Charisma is not an option. If we, by some electoral miracle, put a plain and uninspiring technocrat in power, no matter how competent, his administration would quickly be crushed by the throng of competitors for power. It’s a mosh pit in there, and if you can’t pull people your way by an exceptional power of persuasion, you have no chance for success. In that respect, Palin is more likely to succeed than any of her peers.

The good thing about that ticket is it gets McCain out of Congress. That alone would be worth the price of admission.

As I understand it, it’s more or less a funding problem. In Alaska, she was under attack from both parties and the good old boy network and had no ability to defend herself without creating insurmountable personal debt. The presidency is structured differently, and she has been working at creating a broad base of support, both in the electorate and in the Republican Party. In short, she executed a necessary retreat, reconsolidated her troops, got reinforcements, and will meet the enemy on higher ground. Next time they clash, she will be ready.

While I’m more than a little irritated with Palin for propping up the candidacy of the dead Arizonan, there doesn’t really seem to be anyone else out there right now...

I don’t think the democrats can do anything credible anymore to hurt Palin.

I am more worried about the RINO ruling class.

No time to delay. It’s decision time.

No, it is not decision time. Any attention to politics, other than a generic, "we must defeat their agenda", beyond the November elections would be both fodder and ammunition for the leftist media, and would be used to derail any and all positive momentum going into November.

The Alinskyites are salivating, drooling, gnashing their teeth, clawing, for any particular individual, group, or narrowly focused issue upon which to target.

Denying them specific targets beyond the most immediate objective is the only way to defeat them and the Alinsky method.

What this means is exactly what Sarah Palin said last night. Our focus must be on the candidates and elections in this November race, we must unify our efforts for the November elections, and we must win as many seats possible in the House, Senate, Governorships; and she stressed the importance of state AGs and legislatures in coming battles.

And most importantly, the winning issues for this election must be the overall unifying objective of undoing the damage done to our economy and freedoms by the Obama/Pelosi/Reid consortium and their policies.

I’ll donate.

MB...

Your money is great, but something bigger I think is going on that you may be aware of.

Go donate some time for a candidate running for higher office. Talk to the folks volunteering, yes there are the "party" types, but more importantly most are consitutional types like you and I.

They are getting their volunteer sea-legs, i.e. learning to man the phones, walking door to door, utilizing their other skills i.e. marketing, computer, etc if they have them, at the higher end task as well.

This is Sarah's "Farm" team for 2012 IMHO. My guess is these folks would start working for her 11/3/2010 if she said it's a go....

We need competent administrators who won't quit 2.5 years on the job. We don't need a Republican Obama (although she's more qualified than Obama by far as he'd be a coffee gopher where I work.) We need the anti-Obama who oozes competence in day to day operations. Deeds, not words.

Amen.

The Half-Term Refudiator got chewed up by a fricken TV host. Is this really who we want dealing with Putin, Hu Jintao. Amadinijad, etc?

She can be Secretary of the Interior, Secretary of Mamma-Grizzling, or whatever. But POTUS material? Think not.

You need to study up on why she left early as governor. You are simply spouting the leftist media talking points here.

I would agree with that statement and am quite fearful myself.

At one time I had respect for McCain - I didn’t always agree with him but respected him. Now he just appears to be a political animal who has been around too long.
I certainly hope that we don’t end up with a ticket like last time.

I think that the only reason he did as well as he did was because of Palin. It would be just like the republicans to snatch defeat from the jaws of victory again.

>They already spent two years doing that...came up with zero..you think they are holding back something? They blew their wad already....treated her like she was running since she appeared on the national political scene...there is NOTHING left they can throw at her...<

I think that their frivolous lawsuits beat her down and their slander by their puppets in the msm hurt her in the eyes of many people that didn’t know better. But as has rightly been pointed out, the people who don’t know probably wouldn’t have voted for her anyway.

I am not saying she couldn’t win, I am just saying I have a bad feeling in my gut. I don’t think that the socialists have hit their all time lows yet. They could come up with lots of nasty stuff that is not true that wouldn’t stick. But it could still hurt the swing voters.

We may well end up with the swing votes meaning a hell of a lot considering the amount of nonsense we can expect at the polls with ACORN and the like.

I just have a really bad feeling .. but I guess the bottom line is that anyone who would actually restore sanity to our government will be trashed by the msm socialists regardless.

>I was for Fred too, but he just didn’t seem to have his heart in it. I prayed he would get fired up and take the fight to the Dems, but it didn’t work out that way.<

He would have been fantastic I think. But the problem is that he was so conservative that the GOP would never get behind him and throw him the support that he deserved.

he was alone from day one IMO. :-(

"My hope is that she announces November 3rd." Feb 6th is Reagan's birthday (his 100th).

She'd get knocked for "comparing herself to Reagan." More importantly, if she announces right after the mid-terms, she'll have two more months to fund-raise.

She is going to have to raise her money through $25 donations, so better to start early.

>Take FR, for example. Freepers are spread out all across the country, and represent every demographic there is. Open any Palin thread and count the pro versus con posts, and see how she rates. It’s very high.<

I agree with that, but counting FR isn’t really counting the general population. For the most part Freepers are conservative. Considered by the lame stream media as right wing radicals.

I didn’t see her at the Reagan dinner, but again I would expect that there were conservatives there and would not expect her to get anything less than star quality treatment there. Even the press would fall all over her because the people she is supporting seem to be doing well.

Maybe the landscape will change because of that. I certainly hope so.

I would love to see her run with Michelle Bachmann on her ticket. What a team that would be for America!

>I agree.
We need to poll the MSM to see who they’d like to have run on the GOP ticket.
This will ensure an easier time of it for our candidate.
/sarc<

Like it or not, the lame stream media carried the election for Obama. They took the worst possible candidate and made him look like a superstar. They covered for him and demonized Palin - and it worked like a charm didn’t it?
