Palin Opens Up About Possible 2012 Run, Says She's Willing to 'Give It a Shot'
Fox News ^ | September 17, 2010

Sarah Palin may be edging closer to a 2012 presidential run, telling Fox News "I would give it a shot" if the American people think she's "the one."

The former Alaska governor and 2008 Republican vice presidential nominee was in Des Moines, Iowa, Friday for the Reagan Dinner, a big GOP fundraiser in the heart of water-testing country for presidential candidates.

Palin has remained coy about her ambitions, but she elaborated a bit in an interview with Fox News, attaching several conditions to the possibility of a 2012 presidential run.

"If the American people were to be ready for someone who is willing to shake it up, and willing to get back to time-tested truths, and help lead our country towards a more prosperous and safe future and if they happen to think I was the one, if it were best for my family and for our country, of course I would give it a shot," she said.

"But I'm not saying that it's me. I know I can certainly make a difference without having a title. I'm having a good time doing exactly that right now."

Palin, a Fox News contributor and best-selling author since leaving the governor's mansion last year, has become one of the Tea Party movement's biggest allies. She's also thrown her clout around in the GOP primary season with a string of endorsements.

She said in February that she'd be "willing" to take on President Obama in two years, and White House Press Secretary Robert Gibbs said Friday he suspects she's testing the water.

If people stopped listening to the msm and looked around at facts they would have him at around 20

Who said he's not around 20? You believe MSM polls?

You feel insulted because I express my opinion as you did yours? LOL!! Toughen up - 'insulted' 'offended' is in thin skin 'PC' territory - where only 'one' has the right to speak.

I agree.

We need to poll the MSM to see who they’d like to have run on the GOP ticket.

This will ensure an easier time of it for our candidate.

I will concede, Other people may be better on paper. But Palin has a destiny type vibe. She is fearless when it comes to going after Obama and his agenda. She is real. and I like that the other side hates her the most.

Our country needs Sarah Palin and more like her..

Either of those might be good choices, but sort of like McCain and Dole, they'd be boring and horrid candidates nationally.

We can't handle that another time.

So, what are you waiting for, Sarah? We all know you reloaded. Why did you reload if you didn’t intend to pull the trigger? Pull the trigger. We all know, you know how.

It’s time. Pull it now, or risk missing your target. No time to delay. It’s decision time.

Let Mitt win New Hampshire. It is vastly overrated. So is Iowa, for that matter. Once she begins steamrolling through the early primaries in the states which really matter like South Carolina and Florida, people will forget about the pissant state of New Hampshire.

I hope you are right, but I have a bad feeling. A queezy type thing if you understand what i am trying to get across.

I hear you, but you've got to cast your radar far beyond your limited circle to get a better feel for what Americans really think of Gov. Palin.

Take FR, for example. Freepers are spread out all across the country, and represent every demographic there is. Open any Palin thread and count the pro versus con posts, and see how she rates. It's very high.

After her big speech at the Reagan dinner in Iowa tonight, she was swarmed like a 60's rock star, by the press and politicos. That doesn't happen to someone who's been too damaged to take seriously. These people are pros, and know which way the wind's blowing.

Sarah Palin has this power precisely because she has such broad-based support among the public.

Sarah loves America and it shows. She may not be the perfect know-it-all candidate, but people who know-it-all usually act like they know-it-all. She’s real and genuine.

The voters will follow someone who loves this country.

“the last thing I want is another McCain / Obama choice. Dear god no. I was hoping for someone Like Thompson but with more fire.”

I was for Fred too, but he just didn’t seem to have his heart in it. I prayed he would get fired up and take the fight to the Dems, but it didn’t work out that way.

Oh well, we got Palin out of that debacle, so maybe the Lord works in mysterious ways. Or maybe not, I guess time will tell.

The elite establishment do not like regular plain-speaking folk however regular plain-speaking folk are just the people we need to lead us out of this mess.

I recall another plain speaking person...’Reagan’.

I am hoping the ‘Elite” come around....but they are known to have their noses in the air when it comes to common sense. Palin will have to be on her mark when it comes to debates etc. Elitests got burned on Bos popularity, they are going to look for real substance from Palin...at least that is what I am hearing them say. They just can’t get beyond her ‘country’ style.

She resigned the governorship, and I don’t blame her. But if you can’t or won’t be governor, why on earth try to be president?

They would slander her like no tomorrow.

They already spent two years doing that...came up with zero..you think they are holding back something? They blew their wad already....treated her like she was running since she appeared on the national political scene...there is NOTHING left they can throw at her...

you want to appease the liberal media ? are you serious ?

Where did I say I wanted to appease the liberal media?

In a coarser way, I'm saying that while we conservatives love her, she's damaged goods in a general election. It's not fair to her but it's the truth. She doesn't poll well outside the conservative base because the media has spent the past two years villifying her.

2012 is way too important to put up a candidate we aren't sure will win. I'd personally rather use a conservative with most of Palin's policy positions but without the baggage of two solid years of media bashing.

Most Americans don't know Jim DeMint or Paul Ryan or Mike Pence. They do know Sarah Palin and most think she's the half-term governor of a distant state who's a dunce with a knocked-up daughter because that's the way she is portrayed.

It's not at all fair but that's how most non-conservatives see her. The election environment may not be so GOP-friendly in 2012 as it is now so we need somebody we can package and sell to an open-minded electorate as a fresh face, not one they've already rejected once.
