Parents want their child back in school. School board says no way
Print Share Buzz up!62retweetTOP1K5diggsdigg Samuel Burgos has fond memories of his friends at school, but he only gets to see them in pictures now.
The 8-year-old boy hasn't been in school for a year and will likely miss another year if the Broward County School Board has its way.
Burgos was suspended from school in November after a teacher found a toy gun in his backpack. But when the boy went to register to go back to Pembroke Pines Charter School, he was told he will be expelled for this school year, too, as part of the county's zero tolerance weapons policy.
"He made a mistake, but why the severe punishment? I don't understand that," said Magdiel Burgos, Sam's dad.

This zero tolerance is as ridiculous as political correctness the democrats and Obama.
Ya know, sometimes you just have to stop and say, is this actually worth it? Why not just homeschool for real?
Rarestia, There’s that Pavlovian Conditioning again...guns are BAAAAAAAD. People who own them are BAAAAAAD.
They’re messing with our kids. And that, to me, is unacceptable. My kids have been shooting since they were 5 years old. So have I.
Personally, if this was my kid I’d tell the school board to shove it up their “collective “ asses and homeschool my kid.
My Ridge Runner Relatives in Alabama are rather quick to anger and it seems so are stay at homes in Arkansas. Get pissed and toss 'em.
OK, then.
Really it sounds as if the Broward schools are doing this young man a favor. I hope he has a parent that can stay home and help him through one of the excellent home-school curricula that are available these days.
>>Why not just homeschool for real?<<
From what I have seen, it’s because parents have better things to do than worry about their kids. Easier just to drop them off.
You are right. It does identify the target, but at the expense of perpetuating a false conception of the institution. “Government school” identifies the target and is far more accurate.
Probably end up with Federal Terrorism charges these days.
on the No Fly list for sure
:)
It’s better for the kid that he doesn’t have to go to this indoctrination camp of a school.
I’d rather drive and I have no desire to see Hawaii. I think I can live with that... ;-)
Yep, we had a Rifle Club at my junior high and we all brought our .22’s to school. During the winter, I kept my shotgun and duck decoys in the back of my car. Everyone carried a pocket knife. And of course, most kids with pick-ups had gun racks that were actually holding a gun in them. Circa late 1970’s in Texas.
Toy guns and all
Thank goodneess I wasnt born 50 years later..
BTW no child murdered or maimed another all the years I was in school...

At many schools, you can't even point your fingers like a gun and make the "BANG" sound. You will be suspended for it. And, recess has changed so kids can't even play anymore.
I brought two antique pistols to show and tell, always carried a pocket knife and on a regular basis dragged in my pocketknife collection in my lunchbox so I could show it off at the cafeteria at lunch time. This was the 1970’s and none of the teachers had a problem with it.My parents knew I was doing it to.They had given me those two old pistols and I used to run around on the street with them. You could tell they were the real deal.Nobody ever called for a swat team.
Government schools are evil.
The good old days , in college(early 70’s) we had wild west days and were allowed to carry western sidearms. ( we were asked to make sure that they were not loaded, but no one ever checked). p.s we also had a yearly Roman slave girl sale to raise money for charity( never going to see that again in our PC nation.
Conservative families might consider sending a picture of a toy gun to school with their kids, then the schools can expel them all. This would sure disrupt the liberal school system. Start homeschooling all your children. Lots of good teachers out of work! This idea makes more sense than what politically correct idiots are now doing.
