Russian SPETSNAZ arrested at powerplant by I-95 possibly with a tactical nuke?

This is the original news report from SPRINGFIELD, Effingham County in Georgia, next to the entrance of I-95 to Florida.

Effingham deputies call feds after arresting Russians with shovel, wire cutters outside Georgia Power plant

by Evgeniy Luzhetskiy

SPRINGFIELD — Effingham County sheriff deputies have reported the early Sunday morning arrest of three men to the federal Joint Terrorism Task Force.

The men, two from Russia and one from Kazakhstan, were found near Georgia Power’s Plant McIntosh on Old Augusta Road about 1 a.m. Sunday after a ranger with the Department of Natural Resources reported a suspicious vehicle, Effingham County sheriff’s spokesman David Ehsanipoor said.

Deputies reported the men, who were inside a 1995 Nissan Pathfinder, had a machete, shovel, wire cutters and ski masks. One man also had black silk stockings in his front left pocket.

Arrested were Evgeniy Luzhetskiy, of Kazakhastan Nail Idiatullin and Rustem Ibragimov of Russia. All three reported they lived in Charleston, S.C., deputies reported.

The men were all charged with possession of tools during the commission of a crime.

The three were released after being interviewed by task force members, Ehsanipoor said.

"They did all have visas that allowed them to be here and are supposed to be leaving the country soon."

This is the letter to the editor of savannahnow.com :

To the editor:

With regard to the detention and questioning of three men from the "former" Soviet Union caught near a power plant with a shovel and wire cutters, several posts to Your web site were deleted for linking to stories about Russian/Soviet spetsnaz.
Those who posted were then banned, as if they had committed an egregious offense.
If I were a national security official I'd be burning with curiosity as to the reason for censoring such material.
Is Your paper being pressured by someone?
And why would this topic be so sensitive, so off limits, when You allowed posters to discuss the possible Jewish ethnicity of the aforementioned "former" Soviet persons?
The oblique suggestion of a jewish conspiracy is allowed, but a link to a New York Times piece on Russian special operations is deleted, along with links to GRU defector testimony from two knowledgeable experts.
Whether these deletions are due to a pro-Russian bias or to some mental block (produced, perhaps, by years of successful "active measures" against the American psyche), the deletion got my attention far more than a story about suspicious Russian-related activity (which is rather commonplace).
I don't suppose You will answer this email, but curiosity got the best of me.

let me answer several questions

By karkas1 | 09/10/10 - 07:47 pm these people are not amish also there are not jews Their ethnic background is one Russian, possibly Christian, and two others Russian Caucasians, possibly Muslims; however this background stuff does not matter, because their true religion is Communism and ethnically there are Marxists - these people don't have motherland, but there are willing to possess the whole Earth. And America is the only country which is an obstacle on their way; so tehre are ready for everything to ruin it.

I am surprized with you, Americans!

By karkas1 | 09/10/10 - 07:40 pm You just caught three very dangerous Russian diversants and you are going to let them go?! Do you know what will happen next? Let me explain you. Their bosses back in Moscow will see that it is totally OK to send their agents to the US to set up various attacks against Americans. In case if these agents are caught, there is no punishment for them and in the worst case these agents will be sent back home, as it was done a couple of months ago to the guys from a spy ring, and as it is going to be done now. It means, that in the future you will have to expect tens of thousands of Russians who will be setting up various diversions on you sensitive objects, and even if catch some of them, others will do the job! If you want my advise what to do with these guys - here it is: put them to jail for at least 10 years. Next time they should be scared to go to America with bad intentions. Yet, BTW, Russians will respect you more.

SPETSNAZ in the search of a spot marked for nuke hiding place

By Kabud | 09/12/10 - 04:43 am

Setting up one of these devices is complicated. The bombs need a small amount of power to keep them safely in storage. For example, the GRU specialist might have to run a very small wire to an electrical source, such as a power wire, and then attach it to the weapon. The wires can be run as far as one hundred yards or more from the weapon. The wires are small enough that they would easily break if someone tampered with them or tried to follow them to their source. In case there is a loss of power, there is a battery

Nuclear devices can also be slipped across the Mexican or Canadian borders. It is easy to get a bomb to Cuba and from there transport it to Mexico. Usually the devices are carried by a Russian intelligence officer or a trusted agent. If a Russian intelligence officer was for some reason not involved, the human missile transporting the device would be killed after safely handing it over to a GRU specialist. This is a simple security precaution.

2. Spetsnaz fighting shovel.

http://militaryanalysis.blogspot.com/2008_10_01_archive.html

The common Soviet/Russian entrenching tool. Sharp on three sides, a single monolithic object, unlike the current American entrenching tool. Used by Spetsnaz soldiers as a fighting weapon, silent, and in the right hands, downright deadly.

"In a combat training of Spetsnaz soldiers a great attention is paid to their ability to engage in hand-to-hand combat and to use hand-held weapon . . . an entrenching shovel is of special importance . . . it is a formidable weapon of the close combat."

"the entrenching shovel is an excellent throwing implement - the range of aimed throw made by a well-trained specialist is 10 meters or more."

A weapon used as a hand-to-hand fighting tool, and, WHEN USED IN THE RIGHT HANDS, A THROWING WEAPON ALSO!

Again - - from Suvorov:

http://militera.lib.ru/research/suvorov6/09.html

"In the hands of a spetsnaz soldier the spade is a terrible noiseless weapon . . . The little spade can be used in hand-to-hand fighting against blows from a bayonet, a knife, a fist or another spade . . . Finally a soldier is taught to throw the spade as accurately as he would use a sword or a battle axe . . . As it spins in flight [the spade has] accuracy and thrust. It becomes a terrifying weapon. If it lands in a tree it is not so easy to pull out again."

Here, thanks to the Russian web site: "Entrenching Shovel in Close Combat. Version of Spetsnaz GRU. Basic Fighting Technique." you can see video clips of Alexander Popov [???], demonstrating the fighting shovel combat technique.

You see a lot of twirls, pirouettes, jumps, etc. Ballet-like in form??!! This is characteristic of Russian style martial arts? Russian All-round Fighting [RAF] DOES emphasize Russian folk dance as a basis for many martial arts "moves"!? An indigenously developed Russian close-quarters-combat fighting form that is very effective!?

I would ask the question too, HOW OFTEN WOULD SUCH WEAPONS BE EMPLOYED?

Martial arts as taught to special operations units the world over are obviously useful, to say the least, but how often used? I would think very rarely, if at all?

Such martial arts techniques are more than anything else an excellent way of developing physical fitness, building confidence, instilling aggressiveness, AND OF COURSE - - PERHAPS KILLING AN AMERICAN SENTRY - - NOISELESSLY - - WITH A KNIFE OR A SHOVEL!!

An even more frightful weapon is a spade in the hands of a skilled fighter. It was with the Soviet Army spade that we began this book. Ways of using it are one of the dramatic elements of sambo. A spetsnaz soldier can kill people with a spade at a distance of several metres as easily, freely and silently as with a P-6 gun.

Lunev asserted that some of the hidden caches could contain portable tactical nuclear weapons known as RA-115 "suitcase bombs". Such bombs have been prepared to assassinate US leaders in the event of war, according to him [1] Lunev states that he had personally looked for hiding places for weapons caches in the Shenandoah Valley area[1] and that "it is surprisingly easy to smuggle nuclear weapons into the US, either across the Mexican border or using a small transport missile that can slip undetected when launched from a Russian airplane [1]

God Bless USA

russians can do it here with a nuke and more

From Kabud | 09/12/10 - 01:37 pm http://losangeles.fbi.gov/pressrel/pressrel10/la051810.htm The FBI is coordinating a training exercise among multiple government and law enforcement organizations at the national and local level, to exercise response capabilities relative to a terrorist attack involving an improvised nuclear device. The exercise will take place Monday, May 17th through Wednesday, May 19th.

But mind that there is no such thing as `homemade nuke`. ON the other hand a suitecase device is a real one. So it is all just double speak.

From New York Times article published on 04/16/2010

Intelligence officials feared that bomb parts might be delivered in diplomatic mail pouches, carried by international air travelers in their luggage or delivered by boat or submarine to an isolated beach.

Communist agents already in the country might then assemble, plant and detonate the weapons. “Surveillance of all Communist Party members and sympathizers is impossible and impractical since numerically they exceed by many times the total Special Agent force of the F.B.I.,” a bureau memo complained. J. Edgar Hoover, the F.B.I. director, who was intensely focused on the smuggling threat, proposed increasing manpower to cope.

Among many potential nuclear saboteurs, F.B.I. field offices identified the proprietor of a left-wing bookstore in Seattle, a reporter for the Soviet news agency Tass and even a representative of the American Council for a Democratic Greece.

When the Polish consul to Detroit arrived in the United States in the mid-1950s with four big boxes, F.B.I. agents surreptitiously searched them for nuclear material. They found 24 bottles of cherry cordial but “no article or part thereof that could be construed as a portion of a weapon of mass destruction,” their secret report solemnly declared.

Security officials later speculated about whether China might set off a smuggled nuke in the United States and make it look like a Soviet attack, provoking devastating war between its rivals. Later, as portable tactical nuclear weapons proliferated in both Eastern and Western Europe, there were periodic alarms about their security.

In the 1950s the United States knew its adversaries had weapons; the mystery was whether they might use them. Today, said Jeffrey T. Richelson, a historian of nuclear weapons, the situation is reversed: Qaeda leaders have suggested publicly that they would use a nuclear weapon, “but as far as we know, Al Qaeda hasn’t even come close to building a bomb.”

Dear moderator, yesterday I saw here several messages written by Kabud, which contained links to information that is highly important for understanding the described events. Unfortunately, I don't see them here any more. One of them I have in my cash (see below), however, there were several more important notes from this user. Because, to the best of my knowledge, his messages did not violate any rules and did not contain any offensive meaning, I would ask you if you could be so kind to restore them Thank you! Here is the message that I have in my cash:  < THIS USER QUOTED ONE OF THE ABOVE>

Was Chernobyl a cunning KGB conspiracy?
By Rein F. Deer
30.03.2006 / 00:00 CET
By the year 2020 Europe will be up to 75 % dependent on Russia for oil and gas. Imagine what a warm glow this prospect induces in the Kremlin.
Russia’s bigshots can hardly believe their luck when they read that Old Europe does not dare to build more nuclear plants because it is scared of its electorates.
This all sounds too good not to be well considered. John le Carré should write a thriller about the young KGB lieutenant who in 1985 predicted that Mikhail Gorbachev’s policy of glasnost would lead to “the worst accident of the century”, the collapse of Soviet power in Europe. Did Moscow’s dirty tricks department then find a devilishly clever way of scaring the hell out of West Europeans, and bully us out of building new nuclear plants? Was Chernobyl really just the usual Soviet sloppiness? One thing is certain. Twenty years on, the no-longer-so-young KGB spook Vladimir Putin is in charge, and Mother Russia has her iron thumb on Europe’s power supplies. Nations on the western side of the River Elbe have always been servile to Russia, and cowed on the eastern side. Now three Baltic countries and Poland are building new nuclear plants to replace Lithuania’s Soviet-type Ignalina plant, which contains the two largest operating reactors in the world.
This project is a fitting response to the insult of the German-Russian gas pipeline, and a renewed assertion of freedom and independence. There are some paradoxes about nuclear energy and Europe. For example, in order to become a member of the EU, Bulgaria must shut down its Kozloduy nuclear power plant. But any Bulgarian government wishing to survive will have to re-open it as soon as the country is safely in the EU. Sweden will keep her dozen plants working for at least another 40 years. Finland is already building a fifth plant and intends to start work on a sixth. Regardless of global warming, Nordic winters remain as cold as ever.
Germany was for years the political hostage of the Greens, and the German Environment Minister Sigmar Gabriel is still psychologically a hostage to environmental extremists. He took great umbrage at the cautious reference in the Commission’s energy paper to including nuclear in the European energy mix. Once upon a time, the joke went that going to the Russian hell was the best option because the heating would not work. This is no longer a safe bet. Russia herself has no complexes about nuclear energy. Indeed, much of her oil wealth is wisely being invested in the latest nuclear technology. German Chancellor Angela Merkel and other new European leaders face a choice between a new dependency on Russia, chilly nights, or shedding some of the Green superstitions about nuclear energy.

During 2009 our NGO ‘Forum of Ukrainians of the Czech Republic’ conducted extensive research about the ongoing and serious influence of ex-KGB and ex-Communist leaders in Ukraine’s state system. The results are extremely revealing, in terms of why NATO and EU membership remain so far out of Ukraine’s reach, and why Ukraine continues to flounder instead of making headway towards a transparent democratic system. if you look at the oil price graph from the 1980s you can see that price of oil went down drastically in the first quarter of 1986 ; Chernobyl act of sabotage happened on April 26, 1986. Mind how much money kremlin was losing on oil price drop. http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/5/50/Oil_price_chronology-june2007.gif

Which is more suspicious, 3 Russians near a Power Plant at 1 am on a Sunday morning, or a report of suspicious vehicle being filed by a Dept of Nat Resources ranger at 1am on a Sunday morning?

There are security groups out there who test the ATFP security measures of various facilities to prove where security weaknesses exist.

When security inspections take place of high security areas, the inspection results tend to be political with the brass, so about 10 years ago, some security inspectors would assemble teams similar to Special Ops teams, fully equip them as though a credible threat, then let them probe the facility to be inspected and commence the mechanics of an actual assault, but not always fully public.

They’d plant evidence of their intrusion, so that those in the know couldn’t deny it, and photograph or document their operation in progress, to corner those with authority to actually take corrective action in their security measures.

This almost reads that literal in the report. Even if it isn’t, if any of it is true, that would be the best public disclosure route to advance.

Чивенгур, right? most likely it was a preparation for a nuclear attack on a very sensitive set of targets 1.electric power plant 2.I-95- major highway , number ONE in the entire world 3.Military Base If God forbid those alleged ruski gangsters from spetsnaz would succeed : Florida would be CUT off the main land(look at the map) Eastern coast electric grid may easily go by-by for weeks! Military on the base would not be able to operate or even survive so Florida would be opened to the attack from the South and Sea Because there is NO US NAVY FLEET present there at the moment Spetsnaz of course is not only targeting that area. Most likely there are at least 1 000 (one thousand ) OTHER targets they prepare to attack in case of a global war Global war may begin as we all know as a provocation of israel to attack Iran

“I will cut investments in unproven missile defense systems”

“I will not weaponize space”

2008 Pentagon Report (March 2008):
China’s Growing Military Space Power
By Leonard David
Special Correspondent, SPACE.com
March 6, 2008

GOLDEN, Colorado — A just-released Pentagon report spotlights a growing U.S. military concern that China is developing a multi- dimensional program to limit or prevent the use of space-based assets by its potential adversaries during times of crisis or conflict.

Furthermore, last year’s successful test by China of a direct-ascent, anti-satellite (ASAT) weapon to destroy its own defunct weather satellite, the report adds, underscores that country’s expansion from the land, air, and sea dimensions of the traditional battlefield into the space and cyber-space domains.

Although China’s commercial space program has utility for non- military research, that capability demonstrates space launch and control know-how that have direct military application. Even the Chang’e 1 — the Chinese lunar probe now circling the Moon — is flagged in the report as showcasing China’s ability “to conduct complicated space maneuvers — a capability which has broad implications for military counterspace operations.”

[2009] Russia, China plan new joint military exercises

By MARTIN SIEFF, UPI Senior News Analyst
Published: March 26, 2009

WASHINGTON, March 26 (UPI) — The continuing tensions over Russia’s refusal to sell its state-of-the-art land warfare advanced weapons systems to China hasn’t interrupted the rhythm of major joint military exercises between the two major land powers on the Eurasian landmass. The latest in the regular, biennial series of exercises between the two nations has been confirmed for this summer.

The next in the now well-established series of exercises called Peace Mission 2009 will be carried out in northeastern China, the Russian Defense Ministry announced March 18, according to a report carried by the RIA Novosti news agency.

The first bilateral Peace Mission maneuvers — described at the time as counter-terrorism exercises — were held in Russia and the eastern Chinese province of Shandong in August 2005. As we reported at that time, they were a lot bigger than mere counter-terrorism exercises. Warships, squadrons of combat aircraft and more than 10,000 troops were involved carrying out landings against hypothetically hostile shores. The maneuvers also involved large-scale paratroops drops. The scale and nature of those exercises suggested a trial run for a possible Chinese invasion of Taiwan with Russian support. ...”

Russia, China flex muscles in joint war games
August 17, 2007

CHEBARKUL, Russia (Reuters) - Russia and China staged their biggest joint exercises on Friday but denied this show of military prowess could lead to the formation of a counterweight to NATO.

“Today’s exercises are another step towards strengthening the relations between our countries, a step towards strengthening international peace and security, and first and foremost, the security of our peoples,” Putin said.

Fighter jets swooped overhead, commandos jumped from helicopters on to rooftops and the boom of artillery shells shook the firing range in Russia’s Ural mountains as two of the largest armies in the world were put through their paces.

The exercises take place against a backdrop of mounting rivalry between the West, and Russia and China for influence over Central Asia, a strategic region that has huge oil, gas and mineral resources.

Russia’s growing assertiveness is also causing jitters in the West. Putin announced at the firing range that Russia was resuming Soviet-era sorties by its strategic bomber aircraft near NATO airspace.

War Games: Russia, China Grow Alliance
September 23, 2005

In foreign policy it’s critical to “know thine enemy.” So American policymakers should be aware that Russia and China are inching closer to identifying a common enemy — the United States.

The two would-be superpowers held unprecedented joint military exercises Aug. 18-25. Soothingly named “Peace Mission 2005,” the drills took place on the Shandong peninsula on the Yellow Sea, and included nearly 10,000 troops. Russian long-range bombers, the army, navy, air force, marine, airborne and logistics units from both countries were also involved.

Moscow and Beijing claim the maneuvers were aimed at combating terrorism, extremism and separatism (the last a veiled reference to Taiwan), but it’s clear they were an attempt to counter-balance American military might.

Joint war games are a logical outcome of the Sino-Russian Friendship and Cooperation Treaty signed in 2001, and reflect the shared worldview and growing economic ties between the two Eastern Hemisphere giants. As the Pravda.ru Web site announced, “the reconciliation between China and Russia has been driven in part by mutual unease at U.S. power and a fear of Islamic extremism in Central Asia.” [BS!

The scale and nature of those exercises suggested a trial run for a possible Chinese invasion of Taiwan with Russian support. ...”

LA GUAIRA, Venezuela – Russian warships arrived off Venezuela’s coast Tuesday in a show of strength aimed at the United States as Moscow seeks to expand its influence in Latin America. The deployment is the first of its kind in the Caribbean since the Cold War and was timed to coincide with President Dmitry Medvedev’s visit to Caracas — the first ever by a Russian president.

Russian nuclear bombers in Cuba?
July 23, 2008

The media has been abuzz today at the prospect of Russian nuclear bombers being stationed in Cuba if the US goes ahead with plans for missile defense bases in Eastern Europe.

The story has riled the US enough that a US general has been wheeled out to tell the world’s press that any Russian attempt to build another nuclear base in Cuba would cross US “red line”.

The story broke earlier this week, when Russian newspaper Izvestia quoted an un-named source from within the Russian military. He told the Russian daily:

“While they are deploying the missile shield in Poland and the Czech Republic, our strategic bombers will already be landing in Cuba.”

The quote hasn’t been independently confirmed, but the Russian Defense Ministry added fuel to the fire when they refused to comment on the story.

The prospect of Russian nuclear forces being stationed in Cuba - which is, after all, only 90 miles from the US coast - would bring back some rather unpleasant memories for the US of the Cuban Missile Crisis of 1962, where the Soviet Union under Nikita Kruschev launched an audacious and foolhardy bid to station nuclear missiles on the Caribbean island.

Radar for what, like a space-based radar system to track movements of mobile Russian ICBMs?

Don't worry about Florida being cut off from an I-95 incident. There is always I-75 and many other roads into the state.

What worries me from this thread so far is the supposed rushed program of Russians building 5000 bomb shelters within two years. Bomb shelters indicate advanced warning of attack, not terrorism. I.e., ICBM attack. Why do they anticipate nuclear attack by 2012?
