This says something about how far Obama has brought down respect for the office of the president.
If my child was attending a college where the president was speaking, I would encourage them to attend the speech—no matter who the president was. Presidents are historical figures, the presidency is unique in our society, and you don’t often get the chance to hear a sitting president speak.
The fact that they couldn’t fill the hall tells me either the students have become apathetic about Obama, or they were trying, without much success, to fill the hall with a certain type of student (ones that would applaud loudly at all the politically correct moments). Neither is really a good sign for Obama.
