WASHINGTON (AFP) US Attorney General Eric Holder was Tuesday to meet with religious leaders from across all faiths to discuss ways to stem a wave of attacks against Muslims and mosques.
The talks would examine measures the Department of Justice "can take against rising anti-Muslim hate and acts of violence and intimidation against American Muslims," the broad coalition said in a press release.
The 4:00 pm (2000 GMT) meeting comes as an evangelical church in Florida vowed to press ahead with plans to burn a Koran on Saturday, to mark the ninth anniversary of the September 11, 2001 attacks.
Anti-Muslim tensions also appear to have been rising after a Muslim group proposed building an Islamic cultural center near Ground Zero, the site where the World Trade Center once stood before it was destroyed in the 9/11 attacks.
The coalition called on Holder to make a strong statement underscoring the US government's commitment to religious freedom and condemning hate crimes.
"Religious leaders encourage the Department of Justice to be highly visible and unceasingly bold in protecting the guarantees of the constitution for minorities as well as for the majority," said Interfaith Alliance president Welton Gaddy in a statement.
"Having spoken to many families across the country over the last few weeks, I have heard many Muslim Americans say they have never felt this anxious or this insecure in America since directly after September 11," Ingrid Mattson, head of the Islamic Society of North America, told a press conference.
She was flanked by the other religious leaders who were to meet Holder later in the day in a coordinated show of support.

I think swamp people should take uhbummer and holder for a swamp ride, and feature the alligators complaining they can’t eat them, they could say, its just not right, we just want to eat them and thay don’y like it..waaa waaaa
What in the hell? It is Okay for Obama’s college buddy to stomp on the flag and bomb our government but people can’t burn koran’s?
I am not saying I approve of koran burning but Obama seems to protect the enemies freedoms and not ours.
Truly sickening.

I have discussed this with a business friend of mine who is a practicing Muslim. His feeling is there is no upside to “going on the record” and voicing objections to violence committed by Muslims. There is only potential downside (i.e., some whackjob may come after him).
They are thin-skinned, like Zer0.
The “wave,” AFAIK, is two incidents: The mosque in Tennessee and the cabbie (somewhere). The cabbie was stabbed by a leftist who works for a group that supports the Ground Zero Mosque.
Former Catholic Archbishop of D.C. Theodore McCarrick
No surprise there - McCarrick was a friend of pro-abortion lawmakers during his tenure as Archbishop. And he was an active participant in the Ted Kennedy funeral.
He also withheld a letter he had received from the CDF (penned by Josef Ratzinger) in 2004 regarding pro-abort Catholic politicians and Holy Communion.
So the nature of his convictions has always been pretty clear.
If Archbishop Wuerl had attended I guess I would have been disappointed but not surprised. I am relieved that he was not present.
Do they now have to make up “hate crimes” (translation: thoughtcrime) to justify their shibboleth of belief that Typical Americans are haters?
&&&
No, they have to make up the so-called hate crimes in order to profile and control more of us. I hope I don’t get motion sickness in the cattle car....
Shut up, Eric. You don’t have a clue.
I would love to see Holder and his commie boss frog-marched out of the country. Let them go live with their precious elements of diversity outside our territorial limit.
Looks to me like Churches are going to have to start taking specific positions on issues and getting the word out there or risk rogue leadership to define who they are for them.
What is Eric Holder’s religion?

Ever as much uproar over a Cross removal?
In America, everyone has the right to burn their own copy of the Bible, the Torah, the Quran, and the Bagavad Gita.
It may be disrespectful, and non-ecumencial.
But to suggest that we MAY not burn, say, the Quran, is to Establish a Religion, Islam, as superior.
I refuse. I will retain my First Amendment rights.
The only reason I would choose to burn a Quran is because someone suggests I don’t have the right to do so. In response, I will definitely and defiantly choose to proactively burn a Quran. Rights suppressed and unexercised are rights denied.
...to stem a wave of attacks against Muslims and mosques.
I know what will work, the muslims can stop killing everyone they meet.
