A Good Get for the Birthers (More trouble for the Wee Wee alert)
Slate ^ | September 1, 2010 | David Weigel

Posted on 09/01/2010 9:13:48 AM PDT by Zakeet

I try to ignore the birther movement unless it inducts someone important -- a congressman, for example. The (sigh) American Patriot Foundation's announcement that Lt. Gen. Thomas McInerney (ret.) has signed an affidavit supporting court martialed birther Lt. Col. Terry Lakin is actually a pretty big coup.

How wild is McInerney's statement? This wild:

[I]t is my opinion that LTC Lakin's request for discovery relating to the President's birth records in Hawaii is absolutely essential to determining not merely his guilt or innocence but to reassuring all military personnel once and for all for this President whether his service as Commander in Chief is Constitutionally proper. He is the one single person in the Chain of Command that the Constitution demands proof of natural born citizenship. This determination is fundamental to our Republic, where civilian control over the military is the rule. According to our Constitution, the Commander in Chief must now, in the face of serious-- and widely held-- concerns that he is ineligible, either voluntarily establish his eligibility by authorizing release of his birth records or this court must authorize their discovery. The invasion of his privacy in these records is utterly trivial compared to the issues at stake here.

Faux conservatives who attacked “birthers”

Tedious Neil Boortz
Hugfh Hewitt
Laura Ingraham
Medved
Ann Coulter
O’Reilly
Glenn Beck

You forgot Karl Rove:
“If tea party groups are to maximize their influence on policy, they must now begin the difficult task of disassociating themselves from cranks and conspiracy nuts.” This includes 9/11 deniers, ‘birthers’ who insist Barack Obama was not born in the U.S., and militia supporters espousing something vaguely close to armed rebellion.”
Rove in an op-ed piece in The Wall Street Journal.

I don't know why lefty Weigel wrote this brief article. Does it mean that he's really stopped sneering at all “birthers” and thinks that the general has a legitimate argument? Probably not, since he calls his statement in support of Lt. Col. Lakin “wild.”

The afternoon guy in the Boston market, since I haven’t been up there in a year I forget his name. He also was a birther, iirc.

But why doesn’t he have to? Aren’t there plenty of issues that need addressing? If you take on too much you spread yourself too thin and do a half-assed job with everything. That’s why Reagan was such a great president. He focused on a few issues HE thought were most important (others, even conservative others might have chosen different objectives). Let Beck be Beck and focus where he has the most interest and thus can be most effective. Let others who have a passion for the BC issue focus on that. Nothing wrong with that, businesses have people doing different but equally important tasks which makes the company more effective. The same strategy can work for political issues, too.

“Point is, he’s not some kook, and now he’s staking his reputation on... this.”

Why would Slate make such a statement? How is the retired general “staking his reputation”? He is just uttering common sense. Why won’t the president produce the documents and stop stalling? Enough American citizens have doubt that it is only reasonable for him to do so. The military chain of command is built upon trust. Create a doubt and there is a breakdown of authority. Once again, common sense. IF there is NO basis for so-called “birther” thinking, then WHY doesn’t the president just post the documents/records requested? It just looks suspicious.

Finally, the retired general is NOT saying the accusations are true, but that there is enough lingering doubt that LTC Laken should get access to the documents to prove or hang himself. Goodness, if they had of been produced a year ago (and proven no reasonably questions exist) then LTC Lakin would be COL Lakin and serving in Afghanistan saving lives.

The issue of the POTUS not be a NBC because his father was not a U.S. citizen is one that has to be decided by courts. The birth certificate and college records would only potentially show that the POTUS was never a NBC because of birth location or had legally renounced citizenship if he claimed to be Indonesian for monetary reasons while a college student.

“I don’t believe these concerns are “widely held” by the American public or military. If there were valid concerns, then it might be an issue. But there is not one bit of evidence that he was born anywhere but the United States.”

The evidence would be the records sought...which have never been produced. A COLB, in the Hawaiian format, is pretty suspect...as are the practices of the Hawaiian government on issuing BCs.

In regards to this issue being a concern “widely held”....if you don’t see that it is (based upon polling) then what else can one say to you. A substantial number of Americans have doubts about the POTUS’ birth circumstances. That has been repeatedly demonstrated by various polls. So...substantial doubt exists. It behoves the POTUS to end it with some concrete documents and not....”take my word on it” rhetoric.

Beck lost my respect when he called the birther who called in an idiot.
I just CANNOT understand why so many don’t give this credibility.

As JB Williams of Canada Free Press stated:

http://canadafreepress.com/index.php/article/12999

(snip)
Every member of the Supreme Court, every member of congress, every member of the Joint Chiefs, most members of the DOD, CIA, FBI, Secret Service and state run media, ABC, CBS, NBC, CNN, PBS, NPR, MSNBC, Fox and print news, knows that Barack Hussein Obama does NOT meet Article II – Section I constitutional requirements for the office he holds. By his own biography, there is NO way he can pass the test. The hard evidence is so far beyond overwhelming, it is ridiculous.

(snip)
But not ONE member of America’s most powerful people will dare confront Obama and his anti-American cabal on the subject. The Constitution does NOT stand.

(snip)
Half of the people you expect to stop this insanity are quiet co-conspirators in the silent coup. The other half is paralyzed by fear, motivated only by political self-preservation.

(Snip)
Americans keep asking what they can do because they see that none of their leaders are doing anything to stop the demise of their beloved country. It’s the right question, because those leaders are NOT going to stop this thing.

I’m not surprised. He’s only had TWO press conferences at the WH since taking office. TWO! How long could a serious reporter stand being short-circuited like that?
