Rally to Restore Honor Gathers Half a Million Americans, Makes History

WASHINGTON, D.C. (Catholic Online) - On Saturday, August 28, 2010, a crystal clear, sunny day in Washington D.C. a massive crowd of people gathered for a "Restoring Honor" Rally. The Rally was called by Glenn Beck, the popular radio and television personality who has captured the heart of many Americans and raised the ire of some in the main stream media.

The sheer numbers demonstrated that the rally had support well beyond the persistent efforts by some in the media to marginalize it as a "tea party" event. Of course, in their condescension these same people used that term in a disparaging manner. The crowd easily exceeded 500,000 people. The event stage was set up at the base of the steps of the Lincoln Memorial. However, the massive crowd stretched along the Lincoln Memorial, on both sides of the reflective pond stretching all the way to the Washington Monument.

An opening song, reflecting on the aftermath of the tragedy of 9/11, was written for the event and beautifully performed by a woman named Angelica Tucker. It set the theme: "We must rebuild our lives, our strength, and our hearts. not just the buildings we lost." It was followed by an eloquent prayer by Evangelical Bishop Harry Jackson of Washington's Hope Christian Church who is emerging as one of many men of courage, honor and character unafraid to speak and live the truth in our day.

The address given by Dr. Alveda King, the niece of Dr. Martin Luther King, secured this heroic and inspiring woman's place in American history. This is the 47th anniversary of her uncle, the late, great Christian minister and human rights hero, Dr Martin Luther Kings' famous "I Have a Dream" Speech.

He would have been proud of his niece. She is an heir of his legacy and certainly has his extraordinary gift for prophetic rhetoric which can rouse the heart of a Nation.

Wait a minute. MLK’s niece spoke at the Beck rally? I just listened to NPR and heard nothing about that.

Yes, I know, it’s NPR.

I watched pretty much all of the “Rally to Restore Honor” and was so very impressed with all of the speakers..I remember thinking when MLK’s niece came up to speak what a sweet spirit she has..I was so proud of everyone today they did not say one harsh thing about anyone,so that showed me love..and I was so content to watch..

Now the other rally with Sharpton and group was a hate rally all the way through..I wish they could actually see themselves the way other people saw them today..Not trying to do anything, but make more hate toward one another..Al Sharpton, if you and your ilk are reading you need listen up.change your attitude..( I guess that doesn't keep you in money though does it,very sad)Anyway when I was listening for a thirty minutes I had to turn it off it made my stomach ache to see what they were doing to the little minds of these black children, teaching them hate..

The Million Man March had well over that 500K number. It too, was about restoring honor. What happened?

It looked like an absolute success.

What an awesome event.

Way to go Glenn.

I saw the tight shots of the big Sharpton rally. Must have been all of 1,000 with their printed signs.

“I saw the tight shots of the big Sharpton rally. Must have been all of 1,000 with their printed signs.”

Typical lefty event - 1/3 speakers, one third SEIU and 1/3 press...

Yes she was there. If I recall correctly, Dr. King’s niece is herself an ordained minister.

Perhaps the liberals are offended that family of Dr. King would be at the Beck rally, which allegedly was set up to dishonor the memory of Dr. King. So NPR can’t let their listeners know that someone from his family was there.

Actually, widely at variance with the CBS estimate of, I believe, 87,000.

SeeBS couldn’t find their gluteus maximus with both hands.

You must mean the National Propaganda Radio? Yep! Stopped listening a couple of years back when they started calling President Bush a liar. Too bad he didn’t call them on it.

“Wish there were pictures.”

Of what? If you mean the crowd, there are dozens in threads throughout this board.

The AP in the first paragraph can’t miss the chance to say it was a “predominantly white crowd”.

WASHINGTON (AP) - Conservative commentator Glenn Beck and tea party champion Sarah Palin appealed Saturday to a vast, predominantly white crowd on the National Mall to help restore traditional American values and honor Martin Luther King’s message. Civil rights leaders who accused the group of hijacking King’s legacy held their own rally and march.

Minorities made up only a minority of the crowd. Who would have thought?

The interesting thing about this rally is that it may be the thing that drives Obozo around the clown bend and into the pure anger of the narcissist. It was a manifestation of the disgust many Americans feel for the clueless elites currently screwing up our world and as such it's time had come. But it also was an OUTRIGHT indictment of Obama as not honorable, not Patriotic.

Stay tuned. The Empire WILL strike back.

They probably have standards that won't allow them to speak the ideas she so eloquently presented. She spoke to the core of the issues. Her message was that of a woman who had been placed in that position by God Himself. She didn't need any affirmative action program to guide her to the truth. She let God guide her. And the pastor from Texas who quit school, but said over and over, God wouldn't let him quit being educated. Glory to God.

I wonder if Rev Sharpton pointed out how many precious young black babies are being sacrificed every day, or how many potentially productive young black men are being gunned down by those of their own race, or how many families are torn apart because no one, no one holds fathers to any standard of responsibility for their own. The message from them is just ‘beat ‘em down, so I can lead them.’

“The AP in the first paragraph can’t miss the chance to say it was a “predominantly white crowd”.”

They for some reason do not follow up with an inquiry about the intense racial hatred blacks have for whites - look at the old films of the King speech - a gathering to bring people together - almost 50-50 whites and blacks.

Go figure. They keep letting today’s black racists off the hook.

Just finished watching the local DC coverage of the Honor rally. They gave the Sharpton tantrum more coverage and interviewed the person that attended it and they didn’t interview one person from the Honor event.
All five local stations gave us about 20-30 seconds of mention, each. None mentioned the sizes of the rallies, just that ours was bigger. They kept referring to it as a “tea party” event, which was just patently false.

These people are just glorified weather and traffic announcers.
