Ken Mehlman, President Bush's campaign manager in 2004 and a former chairman of the Republican National Committee, has told family and associates that he is gay.
Mehlman arrived at this conclusion about his identity fairly recently, he said in an interview. He agreed to answer a reporter's questions, he said, because, now in private life, he wants to become an advocate for gay marriage and anticipated that questions would arise about his participation in a late-September fundraiser for the American Foundation for Equal Rights (AFER), the group that supported the legal challenge to California's ballot initiative against gay marriage, Proposition 8.
"It's taken me 43 years to get comfortable with this part of my life," said Mehlman, now an executive vice-president with the New York City-based private equity firm, KKR. "Everybody has their own path to travel, their own journey, and for me, over the past few months, I've told my family, friends, former colleagues, and current colleagues, and they've been wonderful and supportive. The process has been something that's made me a happier and better person. It's something I wish I had done years ago."
Privately, in off-the-record conversations with this reporter over the years, Mehlman voiced support for civil unions and told of how, in private discussions with senior Republican officials, he beat back efforts to attack same-sex marriage. He insisted, too, that President Bush "was no homophobe." He often wondered why gay voters never formed common cause with Republican opponents of Islamic jihad, which he called "the greatest anti-gay force in the world right now."

Conservatives need to start over with the criteria we demand for leadership in the GOP and at all three levels of government. True and traditional values that we believe in and hold dear. And it starts with God, and family, and re-establishment of the proper role and dimension of government based on the Constitution. I am so sick of pretenders and liars and that includes most of those in power today.
OK, I'll try a short sentence answer:
Because evil is precipitated and caused by forces opposed to God's truth, values, and ultimately salvation.
They’re called The Stupid Party for a reason.
He’s another useless open borders RINO.
Thank you, manc, for clarifying what it is all about.
That, and nothing more.
Exactly. At least they’re revealing themselves; may they all do so. It’s very hard to fight against evil if it is disgused or hidden.
it makes me laugh at how the dopes say this is about love etc.
Well I love my pets, family and some friends but I do not feel that I should be having sex with them.
All about how they get off sexually and because of that they think they should be married????? They’re nuts and so is anyone supporting their agenda.
Yes he has an excellent point there.
Gays (and most feminazis) are AFAIK silent on radical Islam. They ought to be even more worried about it than the average person.
No Republican politico is gonna prevent a gay person from having a relationship. Jihadists on the other hand would like to kill them all.
Of course not. It is by design that our political elite is made up of perverts and other various weak willed types. The puppet masters keep them in line with threats of bringing down their house of cards.
Oh my...that is Kelly McGilis?
Yeppers.
He was the campaign manager for the GWB election. As I recall, since that election, we were able to get two members on the Supreme Court. As you may also recall, John Kerry had a shot at winning and may have pulled it out but for Bush’s stealth reelection campaign, a feat for which Karl Rove was given all of the credit, which was total hogwash. Look at the man’s bio for crying out loud. I’m sure you are savvy enough to know that campaign managers have more to do with elections than the figureheads at the RNC. Have you looked at the list of the heads of the RNC? What, exactly, have they done? It’s been over fifteen years since anyone at the head of the RNC had any real “play” in elections.
You’ve made my point.
The RNC doesn’t even write the platform. As the head of the RNC, neither Ken Mehlman nor any other head of the RNC had anything to do with the direction of the Republican party. It does nothing more than raise try to raise money. The job is a reward during a year in which a Republican President is in power as a political favor. In other years, delegates vote on the leader. If you don’t like the way the party is going, blame it on the Republican President, who is the de facto head of the party. Right now, there is no leader. The RNC does nothing, but Ken Mehlman’s tenure at the RNC was after he had a long career as a successful Republican Operative, thus President Bush gave him a job.
To Wit:
Function
The Republican National Committee (RNC) serves as an umbrella organization over state committees, providing continuity between election cycles. Every four years, the RNC organizes the Republican National Convention.
At the convention, delegates from each state and territory meet to nominate the Republican candidates for president and vice president, agree on the official Republican Party platform and adopt rules and procedures for the party.
Misconceptions
The Republican National Committee (RNC) is often conflated and confused with Republican state parties, campaigns and elected officials. While the RNC is clearly affiliated with state parties and campaigns, it often has little, if anything, to do with their tactics or organization, or the individual votes of a Republican elected official.
Mehlman arrived at this conclusion about his identity fairly recently, he said in an interview.LOL!
Whoops, sorry.
Just couldn't help laughing when I read this. Wondering how, exactly, he "arrived at this conclusion".
LOL!
Whoops. Again. Sorry.
I know this is serious stuff.
Who is Kelly McGillis?
