Corporal Boyd was an exceptional Marine, one of the very few meritoriously promoted to PFC during recruit training. He was married and the father of two-year old twin boys. Boyd enlisted 13 June, 2006. This was his first combat deployment.

He previously deployed with the 11th Marine Expeditionary Unit to the Indian Ocean in 2009, returning last April. He volunteered for this combat mission, while shipboard, before even finishing his last deployment, even though he was due a 14 month dwell time stateside. After only a month at home, he deployed for this special mission and was on his last combat patrol. He died on patrol after stepping on an IED in the Marjah area.

His personal service awards include the Purple Heart, Combat Action Ribbon, Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal, Marine Corps Good Conduct Medal, Humanitarian Service Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Afghanistan Campaign Medal, Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, Global War on Terrorism Expeditionary Medal and the Sea Service Deployment Ribbon.

Goin' home Brother, go easy. God Bless you Chris and your family.

Semper fi, carry on.
