Ground Zero Mosque: A grass-roots movement among construction workers and unions asks Cordoba mosque supporters: Who do you expect to build it? The same people who built the World Trade Center perhaps?
In real estate, it's said the price of a property is based on three things location, location, location. The price in blood and treasure America has paid for the gaping hole where the Twin Towers once stood is incalculable.
The wounds are still fresh and the anger is still real, and it's something that supporters of the Cordoba mosque, named after a great Islamic victory over the West, simply don't get.
Two blocks from the proposed mosque, construction workers at the WTC site are trying get across their point, and ours.
The towers of the World Trade Center instantly became symbols of America, its strength, its embrace of freedom and free markets. It was the pride of the workers who built it, destroyed in just hours by madmen who turned passenger jets into flaming cruise missiles.
William McCabe, 31, who lost an uncle on 9/11, used black marker to scrawl "WTC No Mosque" on the back of his neon construction vest in protest. "It's like spitting in the face of all the people that died," he told DNAinfo.com.
McCabe, who lives in Queens and has been working on Tower One for five months, said: "What they're going to be doing is praying and laughing because they got the mosque. My uncle's turning in his grave. It's a disgrace."
Mark Sabay, 48, of Brooklyn, who's been working on the site for two years, said a co-worker handed him a "No Mosque" sticker three days ago. He immediately affixed it to his hard hat.

If what “Hore”aldo just said is true he's been offer 4 times what he paid for it....The more upset people become the higher his profit....and shakedowner laughs all the way to the bank. He has no intention of building that building., just making big money fast.
Pretty much all unions....
Think it’s tough being an open conservative in a union?...try being a union guy on FR...
IBEW since 95...non union for 18 years previous..
And yeah...sorry to say...there will be some creeps who will take that call...
Our local just voted to cut it’s own throat becuase the international said JUMP.
I like this so much, I think I'll steal it for my tagline for awhile. But I'm giving credit.
I predict we’ll see similar stories when the time comes to build the Obama Presidential Library.
A 9-11 Tribute.

Thanks, Crim, for getting back to me on the union thing. Weird thing is, I would think that most trade unionists are rather conservative. Most people that I’ve met non-union or union who actually do something requiring technical skills are a rather practical, pragmatic bunch?
Completely unrelated to trade union members, except for perhaps some fiscal conservatism, the Hill Buzz Boys mentioned that the group of entrepreneurial gay guys known as ‘Bears’ are a logical fit for the R party as they are fiscally prudent people, who own businesses. Makes me wonder how many people don’t really think about who/what they are voting for and vote in a historical pattern or the mini-soundbites and MSM propaganda.
Out of curiosity, how did the local cut it’s own throat due to International pressure?
“NY is a closed shop State, which means you can not perform work without being a member of the Union.”
If union rank and file oppose this I wouldn’t be suprised if NY became a right to work state. Heck, in another year most construction workers and contractors will be unemployed anyway. With no one investing there will be no work.
There is a lot of illegal construction. Bloombird claims he can’t find it all and stop it all—there’s too much of it. So guess who will turn a blind eye to nonunion workers while he has restaurant owners fined for having empty salt shakers in the kitchen and has smoke detectors installed in the trees.
Been down the same road. Our industry has not held a major show in NYC for a very long time.
Never
I have said this several times now: “The five families in New York need to make an offer they can’t refuse.”
This in my opinion could be that offer. They still have major involvement in NYC labor unions. Bring in “scabs” and there will be blood.
Sh!tty concrete, lack of pinning bolts, loose bolting etc. etc. etc.
Doesn’t matter. They will still be lining the streets because nothing, NOTHING, get built, moved, unloaded, loaded and any other manual labor activity commenced until a union says so in New York City.
I have been to trade shows where I was prohibited from plugging an extension cord into a recepticle. I had to make a proper written request to the floor super and they would bring in a labor worker to do it. If they caught me doing it anyway, there was a monetary fine with the possibility of our booth being ejected from the show. Same way in Chicago.
On projects I design for anyplace in New York State, we automatically adjust costs and timelines to account for the required union procedures and fees.
If they get Saudi money, and the unions refuse to build, the Saudis will bring in their own third world laborers.
Even better would be for the unions to start work real real slowly. Make the project cost 4x budget. Squander the money contributed to the Muslims to make sure the money’s not available to build the mosque elsewhere. Then go on strike when it’s about 60% complete and unusable. Make sure it’s never finished. The American people would have their own victory monument.
problem with most ‘hardhats’ is they vote the union line....then they wonder why their president wants a mosque on ground zero or wants to take their firearms away.
myopic.
You misunderstand the Saudi’s. They are far too cool to press the issue as you suggest. They will not engage in a confrontation they cannot win.
If they pressed the matter, it would be by hiring a Jew to bribe enough Union officials to get the work done.
I had the same experience when I worked for a company that attended COMDEX every year in Las Vegas. Had to sit and wait for a union electrician to run an extension cord.
New job classification with a huge paycut...same duties...
I’m acualy thinking of jumping ship...if I’m going to have to give up 15 bucks an hour I’d rather be my own boss...
I can make more money being self employed....and not have to pay dues out of it..
F’ em...
