There is a lot of illegal construction. Bloombird claims he can’t find it all and stop it all—there’s too much of it. So guess who will turn a blind eye to nonunion workers while he has restaurant owners fined for having empty salt shakers in the kitchen and has smoke detectors installed in the trees.
What happened to the hard-nosed NYC where guys who advocated — much less DID — stuff like that eventually found themselves doing in-depth studies of the East River in a fresh pair concrete shoes??
