Ground Zero Mosque: A grass-roots movement among construction workers and unions asks Cordoba mosque supporters: Who do you expect to build it? The same people who built the World Trade Center perhaps?
In real estate, it's said the price of a property is based on three things location, location, location. The price in blood and treasure America has paid for the gaping hole where the Twin Towers once stood is incalculable.
The wounds are still fresh and the anger is still real, and it's something that supporters of the Cordoba mosque, named after a great Islamic victory over the West, simply don't get.
Two blocks from the proposed mosque, construction workers at the WTC site are trying get across their point, and ours.
The towers of the World Trade Center instantly became symbols of America, its strength, its embrace of freedom and free markets. It was the pride of the workers who built it, destroyed in just hours by madmen who turned passenger jets into flaming cruise missiles.
William McCabe, 31, who lost an uncle on 9/11, used black marker to scrawl "WTC No Mosque" on the back of his neon construction vest in protest. "It's like spitting in the face of all the people that died," he told DNAinfo.com.
McCabe, who lives in Queens and has been working on Tower One for five months, said: "What they're going to be doing is praying and laughing because they got the mosque. My uncle's turning in his grave. It's a disgrace."
Mark Sabay, 48, of Brooklyn, who's been working on the site for two years, said a co-worker handed him a "No Mosque" sticker three days ago. He immediately affixed it to his hard hat.

Thatis OK. The illegals will be lining the streets for work.
That’s OK. The illegals will be lining the streets for work.
Don’t be so stupid!
Obama has put the word out to counter his own words a couple of days ago.
Yeah, they won’t work, but you and I will pay the bill for their ‘support’.
But they won’t be illegals. They will be legal and they will be specially imported Muslim workers.
You may be worried about Mexican busboys, but I’m far more worried about the millions of people from Muslim countries that Obama has made LEGAL immigrants. He upped the number of LEGAL Muslims the month after he was inaugurated. He also wants to forgive visa overstayers (like his auntie) and I would bet you that this includes many Muslims - in fact, IIRC, there was a Bosnian visa-overstayer arrested about 2 years ago in the process of planning a little jihad moment in New Jersey.
So they will probably actually be legal, but they’re no friends of ours. Watch for him to get special visas to let them in.
Build the Mosque today, but later
Contemplate a smoking crater?
Let the illegals just try to cross a line of American tradesmen.
They’ll self-deport before the first morning break.
My husband, who is Union (our biggest disagreement) has been saying this since the issue came up. Get to the rank and file Union members and get them to say they will not work on the site.
Especially the Unions who built the WTC.
NY is a closed shop State, which means you can not perform work without being a member of the Union. If the rank and file goes against the Union heads on this, they aren’t going to be able to go out and grab illegals, bring into the Union to work the job. They’d have to go through the apprentice programs at a minimum and they’d lose their “real” members if they were to do that. Plus, you can’t work without supervisors. There would be hell to pay if the leadership even suggested something like that.
For once, it’s in our interest to work with the Union rank and file members to support them and to put pressure on the Union leadership not to work on this project.
“So they will probably actually be legal, but theyre no friends of ours. Watch for him to get special visas to let them in.”
Watch for them to be floating in the East River.
You are talking about NYC Union Workers.
Excellent point
You have got to be kidding. You go and bring workers from somewhere else into NYC and and it will be a bloodbath. It will not happen if the unions say so.
It would be a grave mistake to assign the construction workers with this responsibility.
It only takes one Union to refuse to work and they’re done.
IBEW controls all electrical, plus nuclear workers - that’s tons of retired/ex-military people. We get IBEW members to refuse and if Bloomberg was to try and pull anytime of ridiculous crap you’ve got 3/4 of the nations nuclear workers (except for reactor operators, who by federal law can not strike) on strike plus electrical workers across the entire country.
On top of that, there would be blood.
This can be done.
Don’t count on it - there’s stirrings already across some of these Unions from the members - there are many who say they WILL go against the leadership on this, period. I’m talking locals 1,200 miles away from NYC.
This is where the members do have an advantage.
Not naivety at all, my husband has been IBEW for 15 years.
I know what you’re saying, but I also know how union ‘bosses’ work. I’ll be interested to see how this all plays out -— and I’m still banking on full 100% union participation in the end, for “whatever reason”.
Many of those ironworkers worked for months rescuing the dead bodies from the debris, searching for survivors. It was a gruesom task someone had to do it and it required ironworkers becauseof the pile of structural steel that had to be removed piece by piece to find the bodies. Those ironworkers and others will never forget. They will not allow this nasty gesture by the muslims who did this dastardly deed to be built.
thank you!
One of the job stewards down here (not my husband’s local, but knows him) his son was killed on 9/11. People can scream this is a local issue, it’s not.
This is a situation like nothing else we’ve seen. All it takes is for one local up there to refuse to work and the job is shut down. It’s highly unusual for Conservatives to support anything Union - in this case we’ve got to support the members who will not work this job and help them put pressure on the leadership.
I’ve known contractors who have been held up for months by building inspectors in NYC. When they dig in their heels all work on a building stops.
