The Department of Defense Friday released its final review of recommendations from an independent report ordered in the wake of the deadly Nov. 5, 2009 shooting rampage at Fort Hoods Soldier Readiness Center that left 13 dead and more than 30 wounded.

The independent report was released in January and Secretary of Defense Robert Gates said then it "raises serious questions" about the military's ability to cope with security threats within its ranks.

The Pentagon said Friday it will place a priority on implanting recommendations that will strengthen policies and procedures in a number of areas including the education of commanders about the symptoms of potential workplace violence and ensuring them access to appropriate information in personnel files throughout a service members career; improvement of information-sharing with partner agencies and among different installations; expansion of the emergency response capabilities of installations, and hiring additional health care providres, especially in the mental health field.
The tragic shooting of military personnel at Fort Hood in November 2009 underscored the need for the DoD to review its approach to force protection and to broaden its force protection policies, programs, and procedures to go beyond their traditional focus on hostile external threats, the Pentagon said Friday.
The follow-on review final report recommends concrete actions across a range of issues that all contribute to the safety and health of our military forces.
Maj. Nidal Malik Hasan, the Fort Hood psychiatrist charged in the deadly shooting, remains in custody in Bell County, awaiting an Article 32 hearingthe equivalent of a civilian grand jury reviewthat will determine whether he stands trial.
Hes charged with 13 counts of premeditated murder and could receive the death penalty if convicted.

The spy books and such that i read would call that report ‘sanitized’.
later...
Great. I see more retarded mandatory video classes in my near future.
This report is just to cover their butts. They and everyone else knows this man was an Islamic terriorist.. He acted that out during his time in the service..but NO ONE took action so they would not look “politically incorrect “and jeopardize their military career and because of that Americans died.. this is an attempt to wash their hands and say we had no part in this.
They can write all the words they want to try to find other reasons for the murders..but Americans are not dumb..THEY GET IT ... and this just makes the military leadership and government look like the incompetent fools they are
So the report was politically correct.
SAD!

“What do you bet the government will recommend that soldiers it’s training to kill the enemy should be armed?”
Under 0...not a chance!
“implanting recommendations”???
Is a new way to say kick some butt or just an illiterate copy editor?
Thanks for reading it, as I cannot stomach it.
There is no mention at all in the report that the killer was a practicing Muslim who was shouting Allah Akbar as he put bullets in the heads of Americans.
Was there any mention of the fact that he had SOA (Soldier of Allah) on his business card?
There were 14 left dead! One of the victims was pregnant.
You’re absolutely correct.
The report highlights as an action item, the need for DoD to review it's policy on personally owned weapons. The writing is on the wall - personal weapons on base will no longer be allowed.
Over 20 pages of action items, and not a single one mentions "Muslim, Islam, Jihadist", but the powers-that-be think it important enough to mention the personal weapons policy, and intimate that it's too lax. As usual, DC can't see the forest through the trees.
“The very idea that people we trust to work in teams to kill the enemy with advanced weapons cannot be trusted to wear a sidearm on base is beyond me.”
It’s a Clinton era policy that should have been repealed under G.W. Bush. Maybe the next American President will address this.
Indeed..., and they call it “The tragic shooting”
This was not a tragedy, as in a happenstance of misfortunes, it was plain freaking predictable murder.
Yep, these people keep being treated with priviledges and kid gloves. Next time we will be priviledging them with freely nuking us and we will call it again a “surprize tragedy”.
Thanks for reading. It appears even the generals are afraid of having their pets given anti-freeze. We surrendered already when our print media were too afraid to publish the cartoons.
I’m beyond words on this, FRiend, I really am.
The Pentagon, the brass, they simply inhabit a different world than I do.
They’re trying to “play nice.” Muslims, islamists, jihadis et all DO NOT PLAY NICE.
JAG-
You didn’t actually expect anything different out of our politicized, DoD bureaucracy did you? I certainly did not; this is exactly the type of weasel-worded, touchy-feely, whitewash job that was inevitable from this crowd!
May the Good Lord protect our troops from the incompetence of their own leadership in the upper ranks!
