Democrats again used former President George W. Bush as a foe in their latest TV ad campaign, driving home the point Republicans would restore policies that helped create the economic downturn.
The Democratic National Committee (DNC) released a new cable ad Friday that harped on their campaign message that the November midterm elections will be a choice between Democratic policies that will bring the country out of the recession versus Republican policies that helped created it.
No Republican is used in the ad aside from Bush -- who is shown saying "you can fool me but you can't get fooled again."
Debate has swirled whether or not using Bush as a campaign foil will work for Democrats in the 2010 cycle, two years after Bush left office.
Republicans -- especially those who worked in the Bush administration -- have said it is a tired argument that will not resonate with voters.
But many Democrats have countered, saying that using Bush will give voters a clearer idea of what they are voting for if they back Republicans in the fall. The DNC said the ad will air on national cable networks.
A Democratic official who released the ad said that "the ad -- 'Big Choices' -- amplifies the choice voters are going to face this fall between Democrats who have pulled the country out of the ditch and Bush Republican era policies which put us there."
The spot emphasizes that Democrats favor "investing" in manufacturing, education, a "clean energy" economy and want to put Main Street ahead of Wall Street.
The only mistake republicans made when they were in power was the overspending and the pork.
Hopefully they have learned their lesson this time around.
Gosh, I’m beginning to believe that RATS have no brains at all...THIS WILL only make folk angrier and sad that W is gone and the IMAN Obama has been a disaster. “ARE YOU BETTER OFF NOW?”...Folk answer...”HELL NO!” Where’s the HOPEY and CHANGEY Imam Obama promised? O’BOY, it’s gonna be an interesting election. I’ll be stocking up on the bubbly for election night...can’t wait to vote! :)
“Exactly why would any sane person worry about removing the democrats responsible for this mess from power?”
The polity nominated McCain and elected obama. That means at least a majority of the people who vote aren’t sane.
But it is getting better...
I would love to see a video of the Obama family stumbling upon that shirt in a store!
Too bad Socialism never works. If it did I would vote for them. Too bad. But it never has and never will. Why do they keep trying it?
“WOW! Even in the very liberal Martha Vineyard island area, a tee-shirt which shows in artistic form former President George W. Bush and with the famous words, Miss Me Yet? has become a hit at the local area shops.”
Wouldn’t it be sweet if everyone was wearing their shirts all at the same time while the Zeroes wander through town?
Can’t you just picture it? :)
I sure hope that the GOP understands what a wonderful gift this is. A simple campaign that amplifies the right of individuals to be left alone by gov’t = jobs, jobs and more jobs will resonate. Every time I run into a liberal, the right to left alone is one subject that gives us common ground and hopefully plants a seed in their wee little minds.
sorry that dog ain't gonna hunt anymore.
The Democrats were in charge of congress since 2006, the Democrats were the ones that drove the economy into a ditch. When the Republicans were swept from office in 2006 the economy was doing great and the unemployment rate was under 5%.
” Why do they keep trying it? “
There’s nothing wrong with Socialism - the problem is all of those people out there who stupidly insist on hanging on to all of that counter-productive economic and personal freedom....
Once all of that nonsense is dispensed with, everything will be just hunky-dory....

> Contemplate, for a moment, the political genius behind
> the Bush decision to maintain a low (nonexistent, really)
> profile after leaving office....
It’s not genius, it’s Class, Tradition and Protocol, things that Jimmuh Cahtah and Bulb-nose Bilious Bill the Impeached know nothing about.
Brillliant!
I think they should run with that, it’s a can’t fail strategery.
Trying to convince people that they weren't in control since 2006. Some voters are stupid. It may work.
Wow their own polsters are telling them this is a losing approach...and yet they forge right ahead.
Lecture us again on how stupid we are Bam, Ham and Nan.
You hit the nail on the head. In response to this stupid campaign ad, the Repubs should simply show when the Dems took control of Congress - 2006 (and therefore, the pursestrings) and then put up all the statistics they can find. Close by saying - “Vote Dem if you like the trends, otherwise, vote Republican”

That’s why I’ve posted those statistics a few times. I hope they’ll spread as patriotic talking points.
I wonder how long it would take the IRS to start auditing the store owners. :-)
