Palin's Point
NY Sun ^ | 8/15/10 | The New York Sun

President Obama, with his back-to-back statements on the proposed mosque at Ground Zero, has managed to get himself in a position where Sarah Palin has both the high ground and the practical route to progress. At the Iftar dinner at the White House, the president endorsed the constitutional rights of all religions in America to build houses of worship where they want to on private property. He spoke with his trademark eloquence, but he was off the point. So, as he toured the Gulf Coast, he took a powder, explaining that he was not commenting on what he called “the wisdom of making a decision to put a mosque there.” That was off point, too, enough so that the former Alaska governor finally took to her Facebook page:

The NY Sun - which, for want of new investors, went out of business a as dead-tree newspaper during this recession - still has a virtual existence on the web. (A somewhat mysterious existence; I still can't figure out who's writing its unsigned editorials.) And over the past year and a half, it's been a consistent booster of Sarah Palin. For those interested, here are some of the NY Sun's past editorials backing Palin:

July 6: The Palin Doctrine

June 22: Palin’s Path To Power?

June 16: What Is Wrong With the Economist?

June 5: Sarah Palin’s Way of Thinking

This editorial reminds me of a Powerline post I read the other day:

I’ll be damned- I had a subscription to it when it was in print; i can’t believe I missed this, nor heard anything about the online pages at any other sites(powerline, the corner, etc.)

From the article:

Why are they apparently so set on building a mosque steps from what you have described, in agreement with me, as ‘hallowed ground’?

I love Sarah's choice of words: in agreement with me. By her phrasing she puts Obama beneath her, in the role of a follower instead of a leader.

Everyday this woman proves that she is much smarter than everybody thought.

I had a paying subscription too, but then subsequently got subscription for a year for free. I’ve since heard that the bulk of the NY Sun’s subscription were for free, which might be one factor that helped put it out of business. I understand it was an effort to boost numbers to get higher advertising rates, but many of us were willing to pay.

The final paragraph was so good it is worth repeating:

Clearly there are a lot of questions to be sorted out in this affair. But one of them turns out to be this: How did one of the most intellectual presidents in history, a constitutional law professor with a government-provided staff of legal experts and policy geniuses and an ability, rarely if ever matched, to speak in lofty tones, manage to get himself in a position where he will end up following the lead of an ex-governor who has been constantly set down by the left as but a one-time beauty queen without brains and who has been watching the whole fracas from a lake-side camp at Alaska?

Could this be the answer?

No words necessary

I was about to post that final paragraph, too. Great writing.

In the link, I wish the dates of his speeches supporting Islam and to “fight against negative stereotypes of Islam wherever they appear” were given.

Until recently, I thought Iftar was a money-losing movie starring Warren Beatty.

I think the first part is from his speech in Cairo. Then there is his little “mis-statement” in the interview during the election campaign (”my muslim faith”). The repeated references to the “holy” Koran I don’t know - State of the Union speech maybe?

The repeated references to the “holy” Koran

I recall seeing a video, I believe posted here on FR, where he made many references to the "holy" Koran and when he said Koran, he didn't say it like you or I, he said it with a very rolling tongue like a practicing muslim would say it!

Could be the same video - or at least the same instances. His pronounciation of “koran” is definitely with a “foreign” accent. I noted that too. But then Kerry (who him? Vietnam wasn’t it?) also tended to pronounce some words with a distinct foreign accent.

He also says “Pock-i-stahn” instead of “Pack-i-stann”. He does have odd pronunciation of some words.
