Colorado Governor: Hickenlooper (D) 43%, Maes (R) 31%, Tancredo (ACP) 18%
Rasmussen Reports ^ | August 13, 2010 | Scott Rasmussen

Posted on 08/15/2010 5:25:08 AM PDT by Titus Quinctius Cincinnatus

Democratic candidate John Hickenlooper now holds a double-digit lead in the three-way race for governor of Colorado.

The latest Rasmussen Reports telephone survey of Likely Colorado Voters finds Hickenlooper, the mayor of Denver, with 43% support. Businessman Dan Maes, the winner of Tuesday’s Republican Primary, captures 31% of the vote, while American Constitution Party candidate Tom Tancredo trails with 18%. Three percent (3%) prefer some other candidate in the race, and five percent (5%) are undecided.

This is the first poll conducted since Maes won the Republican primary.

It shows Maes with a bit more support than he had before the primary and Tancredo with a bit less support.

Hickenlooper’s level of support has been fairly steady for months, but he has clearly benefitted from Tancredo’s entry in the race which splits the Republican vote. The Democrat had run roughly even with Maes in two earlier surveys.

“Which brings up the obvious question: If you are doing something which is actively opposed to conservatism (such as splitting the vote with a conservative Republican so as to help elect a liberal Democrat), then can you really be considered a “conservative” anymore?”

One thing’s certain - you could certainly be known as an ego-maniac. Unfortunately every group has those. Grrrr.

Come on Tom - get a GRIP!

‘Italian identity. No, I don’t think so.’

An extemely unwise statement. You mean Italian like Justices Scalia and Alito?

We need to get rid of BOTH the RINOS and the RATS.

When faced with having to choose one of the two, you choose the RINO, and then hound his ass until the time comes when you can get rid of him.

Yup.

tancredo should drop out.
Maes may not be perfect, be he’s the nominee and Tancredo is simply giving the Gov-ship on a silver platter with his run.

Drop out and endorse Maes.

“Maes wouldn’t win the head to head match anyway.”

Defeatist nonsense... The Dems are heading towards a historic a**-whipping of biblical proportions.
Maes could indeed win this year, and the Dem is at 40% and 2 conservatives are at 60% combined ... hello?!?!?

If tancredo drops out, Maes has a chance. Tanc stays in and a lib Dem gets to influence redistricting for an important state. what a putz Tanc is!

“So how did Tancredo manage to get elected and reelected for a total of 5 terms. “

It’s easy, even a lame slug, an 89-year-old drooling ex-klansman, morons and other corruptocrats get elected.
Seriously dumba** Congresscritters have managed to get re-elected simply because their district is drawn to elect the person of their party, and tis very hard to beat an incumbent in a primary.

“Tancredo deserves full credit for bringing immigration to the fore. “

True.

Mr. “Sanctuary City” Hicklenlooper will owe Mr. Tancredo at least a thank you note for helping him get elected.

“You illustrate perfectly how the GOP treats conservatives”

A conservative won the GOP primary in Colorado. Just as conservatives have won MANY primaries across the nation.

We have a conservative nominee in Maes.

How do YOU want our conservative candidate Maes to be treated?

Helped?

Or put in an impossible possible by a splinter run that will elect a Democrat?

“Are we for Conservatives or Republicans?”

Maes is a conservative and the nominee.

Tanc is a spoiler.

Support the conservative.

“Frankly, I find this thread sickening and all the bashing against Tancredo. These people are just like the leftists who interrupt Tancredo every chance they get, to silence him.”

Frankly, I find it sickening that people are applauding the most boneheaded and counterproductive move - that will ENSURE a Democrat wins the Governors race....

To what end?

These people are just like the leftists who try to divide the GOP from the tea parties or do other things to divide us. United we stand, divided we fall... the splinter groups will hurt us.

“those endorsed and put forward by the tea parties (Maes and Buck)are not getting the full support of the GOP or of conservatives.”

Buck leads in the polls against Bennet viz latest rasmussen.

he is a conservative, and he will win.

“I find it stunning how many of you will sale your principals just to win an election.”

the principle is - get a conservative elected. Support Maes 100% and it can be done.

” We all know Tom is the best suited candidate in the race.”

Then he should have run in the GOP primary.

At this point, he is just another Charlie Crist-style ego-driven candidate, who’s main impact will be to torpedo the GOP nominee, a good conservative.

Good! We need more people like that, not professional politicians.

I like Tancredo, his heart's in the RIGHT place, but he's said some incredibly stupid things and made himself simply radioactive. He is unelectable to any office. Probably including dog catcher. He needs to be writing books or maybe get his own radio show. Hey, if it worked for G. Gordon Liddy, it'll probably work for Tom.

Hickenlooper is viewed Very Favorably by 35% of voters in the state and Very Unfavorably by 24%.

For Maes, Very Favorables are 12% and Very Unfavorables 20%

Fourteen percent (14%) have a Very Favorable opinion of Tancredo, but 32% view him Very Unfavorably.

Just 59% of Republican voters in the state now support Maes, while Hickenlooper picks up 82% of voters in his own party. Tancredo, an outspoken opponent of illegal immigration, captures 25% of GOP voters. Among voters not affiliated with either party, Hickenlooper earns 35% of the vote, Maes 28% and Tancredo 24%.

So he’s going to throw the election to a Rat to prove a point.

Hell, I can prove that a train could kill me by jumping out in front of one, but I’d still be dead.
