The man who killed Meir Kahane in 1990 claims he did not carry out the shooting alone, as previously thought, but was part of a three-man terrorist cell with links to al-Qaida. Its original target was future prime minister Ariel Sharon, according to a newly-leaked US government document.
During his investigation for an article into alleged counter- terrorism blunders published in Playboy magazine on Friday, freelance journalist Peter Lance uncovered official FBI memos which bring new information to light about the murder of the Israeli politician in New York.
According to the documents, Kahanes killer, El-Sayyid Nosair, told detectives in 2005 that he had planned to assassinate Sharon, who was then Israels minister of housing and construction.

Mr. Lance is NOT a "truther;" mainly government employees' failures to act, blunders and efforts to cover-up are more to blame for the 9/11 attacks and lack of a real investigation than anything.
Excellent book, I read a library copy. I refuse to buy a Peter Lance book no matter how good it is.
I've heard hours of interviews and he's just too damn eager to malign "Bush1" and "Bush2" while rarely mentioning "President Clinton" unless a caller asks. The events leading to the 9/11 attacks occurred when you know who was president. Those events are individual government employees fault -- even if they worked in the White House, ya know.
But it seems that in Lance's view "Bush2" is to blame for every federal employees' screw-up from GS-2 to GS-99, SES, appointees; coast to coast, border to border.
Triple Cross the book pretty much eschews Mr. Lance's personal animosity toward "Bush1" and "Bush2" -- though I did not read the paperback edition. I read the hardcover edition.
His web site contains an excellent time line of events throughout the 1990s and 2000-2001 -- a pdf file free for downloading. I think the site is www.peterlance.com.
Thanks Nachum and Cindy.
