President Barack Obama used the anniversary of Social Security to trumpet Democrats' support for the popular program and accuse Republicans of trying to destroy it.
Seventy-five years after President Franklin D. Roosevelt signed Social Security into law, Obama said in his weekly radio and Internet address Saturday: "We have an obligation to keep that promise, to safeguard Social Security for our seniors, people with disabilities and all Americans — today, tomorrow and forever."
Some Republican leaders in Congress are "pushing to make privatizing Social Security a key part of their legislative agenda if they win a majority in Congress this fall," Obama said.
He contended that such privatization was "an ill-conceived idea that would add trillions of dollars to our budget deficit while tying your benefits to the whims of Wall Street traders and the ups and downs of the stock market."

I think nobama meant to say that they should build a mosque IN the Social Security Administration headquarters. No...maybe he meant to say that everyone should be ordered to buy a Volt and also build a mosque in their living room. Yea...that’s it.

Maybe I’m wrong but I think this is the first time Obama has acknowledged the POSSIBILITY of the GOP re-gaining the House. If his internals are that bad then Nov will be sweet indeed!
The govt. will surely steal some of it via taxes sooner or later unless you go underground.
Are you thinking of a tax deferred retirement option, somethink like a 401K? It's hard to keep the govt. away from it as things are now.

There’s a lot of hard work ahead. But look at the positives- We don’t need a strong leader for this election-Theirs SUCKS! The “Tea Party” surge keeps surging. There is NOTHING short of a miracle that will stop the dems from completely melting down from INSIDE. They did this to themselves and can’t stop.
And then a hell of a lot of retirees lost half of their retirement funds in 2008-2009. That crash made it a lot more difficult politically to let us manage our own SS funds, in spite of the fact that it is a govt. run scam.
If you have money, put it in rental properties with at least 30% down, preferably 50%.
Anyone who trusts this current government is a jackass. Obama intends to wring the middle class dry. You can’t have a dictatorial government if there is a strong middle class. He needs serfs.
Income property can be had at bargain prices in many states, and we will never see interest rates like this again.
Democrats ALWAYS accuse the other side of doing just exactly what they themselves do or have done. It's been a major play in their playbook now for a long time.
